The gatecrash theme song was amazing! Also, the chip tunes were a great addition. Thanks for your contribution, man. This plugs a hole in the A Track.

Alright, I went through and mapped a few of the recent posts and added them to the Track list in the original post. Some are nearing completion. For those of you who have sent in boxes, thank you. Every box helps. The explanations as to what you think happened to the box do help. I managed to find a third sequence of tracks out of the last few boxes.

Keep sending your boxes in, guys. We're almost there.

Alright, I've updated the partial Track lists. I am going to take a break for a while. At this rate, I might have them finished before the end of the weekend.

If you catch this before you open your boxes, please include the guild symbol or the last digit of the barcode on the back of the pack. I realize most of you don't find this page until after you've opened your cards, but that number makes things so much easier. Regardless of whether you included the number, thanks for the contributions.

I'm relatively sure that they print them all in the US now, or maybe they use the same sorting technique. If you have a box, by all means, post it. Just make sure you note where the box was manufactured.

I added the new order to the original post. Thanks, mtggo. Supposedly Vinzito's program can figure out the tracks with different track orders.

I'm still in the process of opening my boxes. I'll post them when I have the data.

Don't be shy guys. We still need a tone of data before we sort this thing out.

I'm getting a box tomorrow is it worth mapping and listing here, or is 1 box too small a quantity to be useful?

Also, do I need to try to sort out the packs and undo any row shifting, like in the video, or does that only matter once the boxes have been mapped and you're just working out which packs to open? Would it be better for me to just list the packs in the order they were in the box?

Sorry for the n00b questions. I've never done box mapping before (until RTR, I hadn't bought full boxes for a loooong time), and I just want to contribute! Smile

One box or 50 boxes, every box helps and is appreciated.

List them as is or rearrange them like in the video. If you manage to distort the order, the computer program will just toss the data. I suppose to err on the side of caution, just list them as is. Putting them in order is much more helpful when you are mapping the box. If you are constructing a map, it doesn't matter much.

I would avoid SCG or the other large online companies. I have reason to believe they have better maps than the community and can map cases. Stick with your local gaming store, assuming you trust them.

Excellent work, CanadianGreenBeret. This should move things along quickly. I'm going to attach it to the original post for easier access to mappers. Hopefully Vinzito will find it.

Just avoid online retailers for boxes and you'll be fine. Go to your local game store, and buy a box from them still in the official shrinkwrap.

At the moment, I'm not sure there's a lot known about the Double Faced Cards. At least not publicly.

If I was a betting man, I'd say they're updating their sorter come M14.

I know I could contribute heavily for the app since I will be opening a case of GTC and I can try to get all the details for this.

Been reading the info about this, but am still wanting to know how you can tell if a certain card is in a specific track or not.

Without a map, you have to guess which rares are in each track. Since we're assuming the order of the tracks is the same, we can make some educated guesses, which I describe a bit in the original post. Brute forcing it would take a long time, that's why I'm glad people are using statistics and computer programming to figure out which cards are associated with others. I have considered seeing if I could perform some factor analysis myself, but it would take a bit of research.

For the time being, I would say open your boxes and contribute the data. It will probably be quite some time before the map is finished. However, the more boxes (and especially cases) we get, the faster we'll have the map.

The short answer is, yes. There are other challenges I could undertake. And, I agree that pulling the best rares and selling the packs at cost is unethical. However, at the moment, I'm rather enjoying looking into how the double sided cards are distributed in Innistrad.

Alright, I've figured out how to eliminate row shifting, pack removals, and inconsistencies with packs shuffling around.

    I've recorded a demonstration:
How to prepare a MTG booster box for card mapping

For anyone posting box information, it will greatly help everyone working on the map if you could post which sleeve each rare came from.

With this information we should be able to complete the map extremely quickly.

For example, you could mark each card with the first initial of the guild that the sleeve belongs to, (G.D.S.O.B. for the Gruul, Dimir, Simic, Orzhov or Boros guild sleeve.)

Or you can use anything to represent each sleeve (numbers if you want) as long as it is consistent through that particular box.

Good job finding this pattern, Vinzito. This is actually an amazing breakthrough. Sorry to hear that your box turned out so poorly. I also want to point out, check the pack order after you shift the cards to provide examples of the missing packs. As you were shifting cards, I am pretty sure you put two packs in the wrong places.

I updated the original post with your video and instructions requesting posters include the guild or barcode number representing the guild. Once I have my box, I'll find out the barcode numbers for each guild, and list those instead.

Have you considered incorporating Qwerty's information on foil placement?

I'm not a proponent of box mapping, but I find the attempts to solve distribution quite fascinating. I ordered three boxes of GTC and will post the information from those boxes for those who are interested.

I am in the same boat. I finished the map of Innistrad because it was a puzzle. I've never sold a pack to anyone. I draft the packs with friends who are well aware of what I have pulled from the box. I usually keep the cards at the end, but sometimes I let them keep them.

There are individuals who just enjoy a good challenge/puzzle. Some people have exceptionally elaborate rituals for opening boxes. I enjoy drawing out the process by figuring out what happened to my box.

Without a larger sample size, you can't assume that the intentions of a few represent the intentions of the majority.

This is most likely your perception. The value of the cards generally decreases after release, though, as supply increases. Wizard prints an equal number of copies of each card within a specific rarity (i.e., common, uncommon, rare, mythic).

    A. Smith is also right, your sample size is too low. As it increases, it should approach the average of the population.
