Natural Affinity is my favorite Magic the Gathering card. The art is beautiful and the card just screams shenanigans. This card made me understand that magic isn't just about big creatures and kill spells, but more so creativity and most importantly "fun". To animate everyone's lands for a surprise attack, to gain control of all their lands with a Charisma Thrashing Wumpus, to Pongify an Ink-Treader Nephilim and have a big monkey stomp contest, or to be cruel and cast Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite.
Natural affinity defines me as a player and all my friends know to expect at least 3 copies of this card in every deck I make. This card has made each one of them laugh at least once with one weird combo or another. The fact that this one card is able to provide me with so much memories is what makes this my favorite Magic the Gathering card. It isn't just a piece of cardboard, it is a reminder of the amount of fun an $0.89 card can give me.
@saturated_wombat I also thought of something like that too, as I do have Wrath of God's and Hallowed Burial's. I just thought it would be overkill alongside the Ghostly Prison's and Martyr of Sands. I can definitely attempt fielding them though. The budget isn't really a problem, it's just currently I am planning for a trip, so I would like to not be spending money on cards, after that I don't mind paying for more efficient items. As of now though, I thought it would be correct to mention since the playgroup I have is introducing 4 newer players and budget cards are worth a look to not make them think that they need quality cards to keep up with the rest of us. Thank you for the input on land selection too, Oreskos Explorer definitely looks like something I would field.
I do agree with with going up to 4 Skullclamp. After play testing the deck, the Mentor of the Meek is a very weak and mana intensive draw source. Maybe this could be an option for the stoneforge mystic route.
The Eternal Dragon was simply another way to find Mistveil Plains, but with the intense draw from the Skullclamps, that should be unnecessary.
Please feel free to make any further contributions.
thanks everyone!
I need help with a casual MWC. I don't really care about winning, but I do want to defend myself and have the potential to win. Any suggestions with changes or other options for cards are all appreciated. Again, winning isn't a priority, but more so having fun and letting newer players in my group to feel like they have a chance and get to actually play their decks. We play limited site and it is not a competitive atmosphere when we play if that helps.
15x Plains
3x Mistveil Plains
2x Emeria, the Sky Ruin
2x Kjeldoran Outpost
1x Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
4x Martyr of Sands
4x Squadron Hawk
3x Mentor of the Meek
2x Sun Titan
3x Eternal Dragon
2x Skullclamp
2x Secure the Wastes
4x Ghostly Prison
2x Angel's Trumpet
1x Aetherflux Reservoir
The idea is to just stay alive with Martyr of Sands and Ghostly Prison.
Using Mentor of the Meek, Skullclamp and Mikokoro, Center of the Sea for card draw.
Secure the Wastes, Martyr of Sands and Squadron Hawk all have synergy with the card draw and sifting through the deck.
Angel's Trumpet came from an idea I had for a RW deck to force opponents to fight each other rather than me. Angel's Trumpet allows me to do that while staying in a single color. This works alongside the Ghostly Prison's to provide pressure on opponents I can't see. The rest of the cards a also have very obvious synergies, but I left space open for some finishers/silver bullets.
I had thought about using such cards as Archangel of Tithes, Luminarch Ascension, Leyline of Sanctity, Felidar Sovereign, but as of now, I don't have the funds for it. The whole discussion is more so for future improvements and possible options to put into the openings. I will grow my deck as playgroup grows as players.
Thanks in advanced.
I like playing defensive and I wanted to stay within the esper pie. I wouldn't mind mono white or mono black. If not then esper. I love piloting pox if that helps. I am a very big fan of singletons too. I like having "ways out" even if I have to survive for it. I love the battle of attrition and more so love being hard to kill. I want it to be somewhat fair, no infinites, no 1st - 3rd turn kills or lockdowns.
Wow, this is starting to look like a dating website description, but for a magic deck. Anyways,
If anyone has suggestions or recommendations, please feel free to leave any.
Moments later, a teenager on a skateboard entered the crosswalk from my left (moving in front of the stopped ongoing traffic) while I was midway through the lane so I stepped on my brakes since his body language showed that he wasn't going to stop. He then gave me eye contact shaking his finger at me and shaking his head.
Now he did get a bit of a rise out of me, but I just chose to continue driving and let him have his little justice victory or whatever. I am more so interested in wondering if I was really in the wrong. He did have the crossing sign, but all pedestrians exited the lane completely when I was turning. It's when I saw him through my peripheral vision that I chose to stop. I kind of felt immature for letting a kid get a rise out of me from such a simple gesture. Also, what would you have done?
Yes there are. I talked to the owner of my LCS and she tells me about guys she does business with and how the buy out staples as a means of investment rather play.
Here is the thing with a Western theme for me, I can't think of any type of Western lore that uses magic. I mean the product is called "Magic the Gathering". Innistrad was gothic with lots of gothic era lore like werewolves and vampires. The khans set and kamigawa is packed with magic/mystical lore. Western lore has a lot of legends and heroes, but I feel the only time I was even remotely drawn to a western was when they added aliens in "Cowboys vs Aliens"
Wizards would have to revolutionize the general mindset of what western is in order to use it and even then, in my opinion, was a very boring era. No hate intended, it's just not interesting.
The comparison of the cheaper black draw spells to this seems a bit misguided. Most of the comments seem to hint that other draw spells are better which I understand, but it's a singleton format, it's not like this is going to replace them, but more so substitute/work as another late game option. Yeah they practically have the same effect, but one can be utilized a lot more effectively late game and the other early game. Yes the card may not be made for all formats, but I definitely find it usable for my playgroup, and I am glad that WoTC doesn't just focus on their competitive crowd. Magic isn't just made up of Johnny's and Spike's.
It is a powerful mill card, my playgroup has a lot of ways of surviving regular mill, but drawing out is a welcomed utility against people that use eldrazi, reminisce, elixir's etc.
It is not damage, it is loss of life which goes around preventive and damage reflective spells.
It is in a color that syphons life from everything, not to mention the art is pretty boss.
I personally love this card.
no turn 1-2 win combos
no more than 1 set of counterspells per deck (anything that counters a spell counts, eg. Mystic Snake
no infinites
With that in mind, if you guys share the same rules I wanted to share a deck that has brought me a lot of amazing wins, comebacks, and even bizarre interactions. You are more than welcome to critique and even help modify the deck in any way as I am open to new ideas! Our playgroup does not restrict sets, although I would avoid power nine or really scumbag tactics just so that everyone gets an even chance to play versus getting immediately shut down.
This deck has a lot of War stories, one of the most interesting one being that I milled someone to death with recurring standstills, but any card suggestions, removals, improvements are welcome.

As a guy, that picture is actually really skinny in my eyes.
I wish I could share the pictures of my friends that actually make their weight work for them.
Dressing the right way, being confident, and overall, just being happy is attractive.
If any person judges another based on their weight, they just aren't worth the time in my opinion.
I got some college buddies to go to the gym with.
Im going out with all my friends again
Going back to church
My best friend also asked me out, said she was waiting for me for a long time.
Of course, I told her if she could wait a little for me to get my ex out of my head. I didn't want to compare her to my ex and she deserves a clean slate from me.
Seriously though guys. I feel like a damn champ, and a part of it is thanks to you.
I just got dark souls 2 :). Everyone, thanks for just taking the time out of your day to reply. Its much appreciated.
Could you guys/gals cheer me up?
A joke maybe? A funny story perhaps? Any activities or advise on what you did to take your mind off of a break up?
Just no consultations please.
Thanks guys.
