I like this. I would jam a single copy of this into a deck with Madcap Experiment. I've been waiting for a good artifact to find with that card in standard. Combine it with Consulate Surveillance and a few discard outlets like Carhartic Reunion etc. and you could have fun eternalizing beaters early.

I think Hapatra could end up being some sort of zombie cleric with a stat boost and deathtouch along with some other ability. If Temmet shows up again, he could be a zombie that eternalizes other creatures. Of course this is all speculation. I did notice that on the original card, Neheb, the Worthy, the word worthy could have been foreshadowing his ascension to a new station as a general of sorts.

I think that of all the viziers, however, Temmet and Hapatra were the only legendary ones. Given Wizards design team it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them both again.

Cool card. Could this push The Gitrog Monster to a competitive level?

This card seems good. I love the flavor. Mardu zombies anyone?

I'm guessing that since Neheb is now mono red, we'll see a mono blue Temmet and a mono black Hapatra.

Another likely oppressive indestructible Gideon, and indestructible gods? I would urge folks to pick up Anguished Unmaking especially since it's pretty cheap.

The auras and trials interaction seems cute. I do like that black trial, along with it's cartouche.

Not bad. I just hate that they're rare. These like the temples should've been uncommon.

If by traditional control you mean a blue deck full of counters and answers, then no, I don't miss it at all. People want to be able to play their deck out. I hope Wizards continues to shy away from "blue control" much like they have with land destruction. It's just not fun to play against. Even if you successfully play around their counterspells it's still not a very fun deck to play against. It's often one dimensional and uninspired. So I can't say I miss those decks at all.

I like Hope of Ghirapur as an early revolt enabler. Also Unbridled Growth is great for an early trigger. And as I've stated before, I believe Oath of Ajani to be a good enabler as well. Given this, do you guys think Restoration Specialist could be something to consider? Depending on what you choose to return, It could also act as a few extra copies of Renegade Rallier, returning the above cards to your hand while triggering revolt itself.

I think that if the goal is for people to be interested in frontier at all, it needs to feel like a different format. Starting at origins would just make it feel like more standard. M15 and KTK are the way to go. Fetches do not need to be banned and neither does delve. They were never really that busted in standard anyway. People want more life out of their cards. Standard seems a bit stale at the moment and not everyone can buy into modern. Frontier I think can be the cure for that, given that if Wizards picks it up they don't nerf it too much. If they start out with bannings, I can't see many people being interested.

M15 seems right to me. If modern is cards with the updated card frame then it makes sense that a new format begin with the holo stamp and newer frame.

I also think that the fetches being legal in frontier is part if the allure.

I feel like keeping the mana curve low to the ground is best. I'd cut it off at 4 cmc, mostly for Gideon, who would cost 3 thanks to Oath of Ajani. The Oath is great for triggering revolt due to it being legendary. Plus the Renegade Rlier can grab it from the yard for extra damage.

I for one am quite tired of seeing the same characters every set on every plane. The characterization is becoming stagnate. What's worse is that many of the new walkers they do introduce are so forgettable or are never really seen again. I get that many of the Gatewatch are fan favorites, but as long as Wizards keeps on these same characters each set, I'm afraid the new sets will never feel as fresh as they should.

As someone interested in GW Revolt I thank you for the thread.

I was wondering how you managed to use Renegade Map on the same turn the Renegade Rallier brought it back. Doesn't it enter play tapped?

Also, do you think Oath of Ajani is worth considering? Extra copies would trigger revolt and the Renegade Rallier can bring it back in a pinch for some extra damage.

And would a black splash be worth it for Fatal Push or even Sinister Concoction? Or would that disrupt the mana base too much?

  • posted a message on How to save Modern and Standard. Two VERY simple solutions.
I agree with the point that for the thousands of cards available for modern a disproportionate amount of cards actually see play. I would agree that modern is growing a bit stagnate with very few standard cards ever breaking into the format. I think wizards needs to just print better cards. Too many of the cards they print just seem like filler. And therefore will be resigned to to the dustbin. What a waste really. If wizards wants to help either of these formats, they simply need to print useful cards. It'd be nice if modern players could get excited for a new standard set as well.

And I believe the standard bannings could result in a mass exodus of the the format. Standard is already a fairly expensive format to keep up with, and no one wants to hear that the cards they've invested in are now useless at FNM's and such. The way to diversify a format is not by banning cards that seem problematic, especially a card that has only been available for a few months. Instead just print answers to cards that seem oppressive. With new sets rolling out every few months I don't believe that's too hard of a thing to do.

Is it possible that Jace, Unraveler of Secrets or Clutch of Currents makes this a playable card? With Clutch it becomes a 5 drop and Jace easily bounces the creature your opponent chose back to your hand. So you could essentially cheat a creature into play while getting another added to your hand. That's really the best I could come up with in a standard environment.

And of course Homeward Path works well in a commander setting.
