When it was teased that there would be a new creature caring about sea monsters i got excited. Spawning Kraken is so boring.
you can't be serious sea monster tribal players will go bonkers for this especially when tiro of meletis sees it.
It's not that it's a bad card design, it's just that I feel we were expecting either a legendary or something a bit more impactful than a token without evasion. Getting an untapped creature to help deter a crackback is nice, but you already need to work to get your big monsters through since so few have natural evasion. Or rely on the one copy of Serpent of Yawing Depths to be found on time and survive. This ability on a commander would at least have been a build around and give a bit of consistency.
Looking at Strixhaven spoilers, i´m getting this weird feeling of having colors do things they don´t normally do and it feels bad, kinda alien somehow, because it feels like colors are bleeding into each other doing things they don´t normally do.
I´m all up for trying new things but when you have something like Syr Konrad, the Grim that is clearly a black thing to do and Lorehold´s red and white colors suddenly shifts to cards like Quintorius, Field Historian and Stonebound Mentor then this effect doesn´t really become unique to black anymore thus removing what makes black, black.
It´s the same with Witherbloom in Strixhaven. A card like Witherbloom Apprentice feels very white and black to me. Caring about instants and soceries too feels weird to me
Magecraft in general just seems so out of place for colors outside of red and blue.
Maybe i´m simply old fashioned and should embrace changes in colors but when colors are bleeding and making each color less unique then it just doesn´t feel like the right way to do changes.
Stupid question but does the Magecraft ability on Zaffai care about what you scry or the spell you cast / copy?
The scry, elemental token, and 10 damage to random opponent are the rewards. To get each of these rewards you need to cast or copy an instant or sorery spell with a certain cmc. Think of it like threshold.
If for example you cast a Lightning Bolt at an opponent, you would Scry 1. This is because you cast a spell with a cmc of less than 5 or 10. And since Zaffai doesn't have the word "instead" in his text, you go down the line of his text box with each condition fulfilled. So instead for example if you cast a Time Stretch, you would: Scry 1, create a 4/4 blue & red elemental creature token, then deal 10 damage to a random opponent.
Thanks
I wonder if it´s a good commander, having to cast 10 mana spells to deal 10 damage to a random opponent
Isn´t this bad? It cost 3 mana, so why fortell the card when that too will cost you 3 mana? You might aswell have the card in your hand waiting for a board wipe and then cast it. If the card itself costed like 5 or 6 mana it would make sense to Foretell it for 3 mana in total
Excatly my thoughts
But since we already got cards for today, doesn´t that mean that the full list will be up another day?
I have a group hug deck that i would gladly put this into

What do you think?
I have a group hug deck that i would happily put this in.

Do you have a link of them saying that?
Looks like it. I think they spent all the budget on that horrible metal band they had at the Kaldheim party
