Why isn't Ruin Processor on this list? I've had several games where an early hit from a Sludge Crawler or Mist Intruder allowed me to process out, and then get back in the game. 5 life attached to a 7/8 is a massive swing, and hitting that mana has happened in at least 50% of my games so far.
Let us know how it goes! I think it's near-enough to Boogeyman status that people will see it and start thinking that's the intent of the deck, and it could throw off some plays / sideboarding tactics as well.
For Modern it's going to be nutty. Any card with a potential "Draw 3" on it is worth testing there. For Standard, depending on how the fixing turns out this next set we could end up seeing a lot of it. Right now with fetchlands your 3+ color manabases are already eating a lot of damage to get things stable. Does that mean that we can't play this in Standard? I don't know.
The flexibility of being able to take 1, 2, or 3 damage without changing the cost is really nice. Cycling it feels kind of bad at 3 mana, and when drawing 2 cards I'll wish I was playing Read the Bones instead. At 3, especially alongside things like Seeker of the Way and Siege Rhino it's going to provide a LOT of gas for the right decks.
I built a fairly standard Esper control list, featuring Treasure Cruise and Nixilis. I'm not convinced Tutelage is good enough for the main deck, but it's absolutely killer out of the sideboard.
I think a one-of Tutelage in the main is fine. Offers some options in the long game, and it can sometimes just win the grindier matches without any additional effort. Having the option to switch to a full-on tutelage strategy out of the board sounds good too.
Dictate of Erebos jumps out as something you should be considering. All that exploitation could easily keep your opponent's board empty throughout the game.
Have you considered Fascination in place of Mind Sculpt? Sculpt looks good in a "mill" deck, but it's not generating any advantage for you in the process. Buying it back with Jace is also slow, and I think you'll find that you'll be pulling removal with him more often than not. Let your Sphinx's Tutelage do the heavy lifting for you.
I've been playing with a UG Tutelage idea, and Fascination is just amazing in that. Being able to force yourself to draw 7 means milling minimum 14 cards, and they're drawing 7 at the same time. Alhammarret's Archive might be worth looking at as well here, if you're looking to close things out a bit faster.
If you can get a whip in there, do it. Gaining 4(creatures+players) life when if the Rig dies AND if it explodes is phenomenal. Makes people sweat just having it on the board.
He was a cornerstone of my MBC pre-rotation, along with Homicidal Seclusion.
And as long as I'm on a posting spree, someone needs to make another Epic Experiment deck. It's a travesty I'm not seeing any homebrews with it this standard season. Hopefully we get some good enablers in the next two sets.
The work is very much appreciated! If you find yourself wanting for something to do, all the instants and sorceries appear to be set as tablerow 1, instead of 3 - they play straight to the battlefield when double-clicked from the hand. Also, none of the new Temple cards have the cipt 1 tag on them. Neither are game-breaking or anything, just kind of annoying.
Apparently I'm a moron, because I can't figure it out. When I click on the card file I downloaded it opens it in Internet Explorer, and I can't figure out how to open it in 7-zip.

Get some Dark Prophecy in there for maximum value.
