Can't explain why Wastes should exist at all, if they're strictly worse than normal colorless lands like blasted landscape beyond the basic supertype

The ability to have more than four in your deck is relevant for EDH and casual play. Not to mention the fact that it's a very flavorful and impactful way to introduce the new symbol.

Doesn't make sense for Wizards to use a hedron / kozilek flavored symbol for an evergreen mechanic instead of a neutral symbol

I still don't see the hedron or Kozilek-shape without straining. It looks incredibly neutral to me.

    Quote from clan_iraq »
Would mean this set needs far more rules complexity introduced since these wouldn't count towards its set mechanics, being evergreen instead, ie 4-5 new mechanics instead of 2-3

Prowess counted as one of the Khans of Tarkir mechanics, despite going to evergreen immediately.

Wouldn't make sense for wizards to print obsolete cards that immediately need errata in BFZ and commander knowing this was coming. Changing it mid-block is nonsensical.

Why? They issued errata on all modal spells ever when Khans of Tarkir was released, errataed a ton of cards to have Menace when Origins came out, and so on. Not to mention the fact that Dragons of Tarkir slipped in a new type of morph that was retroactively affected by all things that affected morph.

    Quote from clan_iraq »
Can't handle cases like elemental resonance without functional errata

No, they'd need to issue a ruling, or make a minor piece of errata. There would be no functional change. Unless you think that Elemental Resonance doesn't work with twobrid or Phyrexian mana.

Would likely make the game harder for new players to understand than simpler, when <> appears to be a sixth color of mana

"Okay, this 1 means that you can use any color to pay it."
"Cool. I'll tap Rogue's Passage to play Raging Goblin."
"No, you can't, that mana is colorless."
"But you just said that colorless could be any color!"

This is a real conversation that has occurred. If you think that <> would be more confusing than colorless and generic arbitrarily using the same symbol, I have news for you. Being able to tell a new player that this mana is colorless and this different-looking cost can be paid with any type of mana is going to make teaching new players easier, not harder.

    Quote from clan_iraq »
Would be less of a transitional shock if they only did <> in production at first, letting players adapt to the new functionally identical but visually different template before introducing the new functionally novel mechanic of <> in costs.

...why? It'd be silly to only have the new symbol in mana production. People would be looking to match it up with something, and there'd be nothing to match it up with.

Second, your suggestion paired with the templating on mirropool would require errata to every colorless mana producer ever! That's a no go! Never gonna happen!

It's not like they just issued errata on every modal spell ever in Khans of Tarkir, right?

    Usually lands are not mythic.

Dragon's Maze wasn't that long ago.

    4chan beat you to it.

Hell, they had it almost exactly a year before the announcement.

Itll be pretty funny if it turns out the only thing that kept Narset from her spark was red mana.

"Some say that Narset possesses a secret potential inside her, a power or calling that will drive her to a greater purpose, but she remains dedicated to leading her clan."

Actually, it seems that her position within the Jeskai may have been what kept her from ascending. Her sense of duty held her in place. In Dragons of Tarkir, however, she is not khan, and is not bound by such obligations.

I'm fairly certain the golden "armor" is supposed to evoke the yellow robe she previously wore. It really looks like a higher-level version of the same outfit.

I guess my one question now is what her colors are.

If they dropped her to just WU instead of giving her the full Jeskai suite, I'll be somewhat disappointed. Doubly so if the new Sarkhan is three colors.

Weirdly, that art doesn't have the tattoo.

Why would Narset drop white or blue at all? Playability matters aside, I hope she keeps the whole wedge.

Unfortunately, Rosewater confirmed that DTK would have no wedge-color cards at all.

Actually, he explicitly stated that there could be some, just not as a major theme.

No, he said the exact opposite of that.

That's far from an explicit statement.

Now, this post from roughly three weeks later? That's an explicit statement of possibility.

Between the Jeskai/Ojutai playmat and the set's key art, we've now seen three clans that seem to be keeping the enemy color of their wedge in their visual color schemes. Really doesn't feel like something you'd do if you were trying to highlight the loss of the color.

It really feels, both in the Alesha story and this Tasigur one, that the presence of the dragons brings out the enemy color in the clans--which is odd, since the wedge set was Khans. Yet we have Alesha valuing defensive actions, and calling them worthy of glory. We have Tasigur losing the intrigue and flattery and simply offering tribute to a powerful beast, one that he views purely as a predator. But these only happen because the dragons are present.

Jennifer Clarke Wilkes was one of the better recent authors of Uncharted Realms. It is sad to see her go.

Honestly, I found her writing style dry and a little bit stilted.

Still, rather unfortunate that she's no longer with Wizards.

Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury has a lot of white in its palette, and yet is red-black. That dragon appears to be either Kolaghan or a close relative.

The fact that Kolaghan, Ojutai, Silumgar, and Dromoka all include the enemy colors in their palettes feels a lot like a setup to be executed on in Dragons of Tarkir. Over 1,280 years, there's no reason that they couldn't gain colors, or change colors. During visual design, you'd keep that in mind so that they looked appropriate in their "final" state.

That's not the point. I'm not saying Temur loses blue. I'm saying Temur stops being relevant in the actual printed cards. Temur can certainly be mentioned in flavor text and in the periphery, just like dragons are mentioned in many cards in Khans of Tarkir, without having any actual dragon cards.

I'm...not sure I understand your point, here. We have Surrak, in the world of Dragons of Tarkir, saying that the Ainok are like wild dogs and unfit to eat with them. Whether they're called Temur or Atarka, that heavily implies that they are not solely a RG group. The fact that Surrak is called "the Hunt Caller" informs us that this is, in fact, Surrak living in the "new" world, rather than a quote from his Khans of Tarkir variant.

DTK isn't more whole. It's a parallel evolution diverging from FRF.

One of the major conceits of the storyline has been Sarkhan "healing" the world. They went to great lengths to make the world in Khans of Tarkir feel empty and incomplete. Dragons is following through on that process, providing the missing pieces, and healing the world, making it whole once more.
