Holy crap I'm amazed that this thread is still going. I've been playing cEDH almost exclusively for a year now. My walker deck is quite dusty. What have you guys learned since SOI?
At work there is a casual playgroup where I cannot bring cEDH decks so I'm rebuilding this deck. Feel free to share any insights in how things have changed for you. Any new pet cards? Is the meta more forgiving? Less?
Playing in these kind of metas with that kind of deck speed is enlightening. I'll probably reuse that knowledge and revisit superfriends later on. In the meantime, I'm keeping an eye on this thread.
Its probably a meta call. It makes all the rocks produce negative mana the turn they come out. It makes counter magic much worse and free spells like FoW/pact kind of lame. It hoses most targetted spells (removal, countermagic, tutors). It kills most combo decks. I could see it not do much in a battlecruiser meta. Mine has moved towards cEDH and its a house everytime it hits the field. My current deck has an average CMC of 1.63 just to give you an idea.
My meta are kind of jerk wads. Lol. They will harass me despite me not being an actual danger in game cause of what my deck does. I rarely get to untap with a walker. Even something as inocus as a garruk wildspeaker. This kind of forces me to get more combo-y or wait till I can board wipe and play a walker in the same turn.
I also know that my build restriction makes my deck not as good as it could be. My kingdom for a foil humility!
In my build I think that newest nissa is a little bland by herself but unassuming. With chain veil though it's another cog to get untapped mana in the loop.
Is too bad that online this dumb deck is like 500-800 tickets. Build a second version or get more pimp stuff? It's always gonna be pimp stuff!
Is your meta tolerant to your deck? Does it have a bullseye from t1?
It seems like your build is decent at strangling the table with your more dedicated control/prison cards. Does that ring true?
This is the main reason why I shelved the deck for a while. It got pretty dumb/boring to see dorks swinging into Jace Beleren.
I despise stalemates/clugged board states. It leads to awfully long games and usually favors UGx based decks way too much (remember PoK? Yeah.).
Playing a stax or combo deck once in a while keeps the meta in check. I would like to specify that to me stax is better when its actual taxes and not resource denial. I tried that once and it can be quite unfun.
I'd like to see an article on cEDH meta cards. Most lists I've seen have roughly 5% of their list devoted to interacting with T1 decks. These cards tend to suck when I play them in untuned metas.
Ex.:
- Carpet of flowers in a grouo without ABU duals
- Mental Misstep is often dead against 75% lists
I think we need to compare it to other options at 6CMC.
Pros:
- Deck filtering / card draw
- Control with relevant clause (exile)
- Ultimate is probably not game winning in a lot of scenarios but still strong
- High loyalty if you +2 after dropping him
Cons:
- Does not ult off of Doubling Season
- Higher mana cost than most (Nixilis is 5CMC) but is arguably easier to cast than Ob
- Zero combo potential / no synergies
The best reason is probably budget. I too believe that the 5 color commanders are better even though they are not purely mechanical fits (proliferate).

Also, grouphug, nonononono.

There is more but you get the idea.

If I break him down by function:
Card draw
- At 6CMC I'm mainly looking at Sphinx's Revelation and Recurring Insight which are both better options
Control
- At 6CMC Merciless Evition or even Final Judgement would do a better job (assuming hitting your own stuff doesn't matter)
Wincon
- Compared to Elspeth's Sun's Champion or Teferi, Temporal Archmage the ult is rather weak due to requiring a lot of conditions to work
I have to admit, he offers great versatility for all those options but he is highly costed enough to put me on the fence.
