I have to agree there are ways to make money off your hobby, including card games. Just like everything in the world, you have to be optimistic and grind it out. While I never made a living off my cards, I have made the $600-$1,000 a month of it. I know that isn't anything to live off of but I was only going to FNM at a few (within 25m) stores, using online sites to sell and using buylist on specs. I think in order to make money, no matter how big the roll, you need to really be verse in the game. You have to know the game to know what to spec on, you need to understand how to positively trade (without being one of the jerks who rip people off) and you have to become "that" person people come to to sell their cards or trade off big items. Once I realized how to play the MtG stocks a buddy and I opened a "shop" in his garage for about a year. We were both able to bring in around a grand a month and was only opened on Saturday nights (opposite of our LGS). We were able to undercut the LGS buylists due to having no overhead (Had to pay rent/utilities regardless of the "shop") then would dump them online to buy our inventory and put some cash in our pockets. Then everyone talked about our "shop", word spread and we had a consistent 25-30 people per Sat we were opened. We did mainly Drafts, offered better prizes, offered trade in for the tourney, ect. Like I said, it wasn't a living but it made more money than I've ever made watching TV, going to the movies or made at a bar... Again, it isn't for everyone but it is doable to make money off the game and not be a pro or writer... I'm sure those wouldn't hurt though
Just came back from my local Walmart. I brought a picture of the yellow tag from Walgreens along with the ad on their website. They said the picture isn't a "advertised ad" and the website ad says BOGO with no price to match. After a few minutes of trying to figure out how that isn't able to be price matched, they said they could work with me on 5 packs. Hopefully tomorrows shift won't be as bad
I'm looking for an altered picture of Jace, the Mind Sculptor. I'm using it for a personal business cards and possibly a banner, so I prefer higher resolutions if possible. I would like for the symbols that are between his hands to read: MAGIC UNDERGROUND. It doesn't have to curve like the current symbols do, it can just be from one hand to the next. It would be really neat if the font could be the white and blue glow (not sure what it is called) like the original had. If anyone can do it, please let me know!
I was just wondering how everyone figures out prices on foreign cards, including foil. I've noticed a crazy difference between an English foil and say Russian Foil. I'm just trying to figure out the "standard" on how prices are generated. Below is a list of my "staple" cards, any links to further exploring their prices would be fantastic!
My Foreign cards:
In the Eye of Chaos (Italian)
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary (Japanese)
Serra Ascendant (Chinese Simple)
Ancient Tomb (Japanese/Temp)
Steel Overseer (Japanese)
Preeminent Captain (Japanese/MorningTide)
Tithe (Not sure, looks like Asian of some sort?)
Oracle of Mul Daya (Chinese Simple)
Craterhoof Behemoth (Japanese)
Cathars' Crusade (Foil/Russian)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but with a cube the cards are given back to be played again. I'm talking about a drafting for keeps, so at the end of the night you walk away with what you drafted.
I have thought about a cube but worried about the cards "disappearing" as the games go on. I wouldn't have an issue if it was a proxy cube but I don't feel like dumping the money in those. Our playgroup ranges with the amount of people and how well known they are in the area. Basically, we're a at home "store" so we get random Joes all the time. I'll definitely take a look at the cubes though just to see how many value cards there are. I may be able to switch a few around and have less worry if they do come up missing.
I'm currently trying to make a casual format for my play group, drafting EDH. Simply put, I'm combining what my play group enjoys the most.
- Each pack is handmade, so no sealed packs
- Each pack contains the following:
1 Legendary Creature
4 Rares
10 Un/Commons
No basic lands, foils count toward the 15.
- Each "pool" of cards will as balanced as I can make it. So we won't end up with 50% black and 14% blue, making things uneven.
- Each player receives 6 packs for a total of 90 drafted cards.
- Drafted pods will be 8 players
- Round pods will be 4 players
Once your all pods are done drafting, each player will be randomly seated in a pod of 4. As it stands, it will be a cut throat free for all, I don't know that a point system is needed (opinions?). The winners of each pod will then compete for the top 4 places.
Due to it being casual, packs will not have crazy high priced rares or legends. The nonbasic lands will be limited the most so they don't end up with a bunch of nonbasics and limit their spells to much. The singleton rule will also be lifted but I will try to keep the amount of double cards limited as much as possible but still be effective cards in the pool.
Any thoughts, concerns, opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated. This is a very rough draft of the idea I'm working on. With that in mind, please support your statements and concerns.
Alright thanks! Also since the original owner still blocks/attacks on his/her turn. Does the "march"ed creature count for the original owner? Or does it count for whoever has it in their territory? Examples would be, devotion count, Primalcrux, Scion of the Wild, ect.
Our play group recently trying out Emperor. We have a few players who play token decks and wanted to "march" their tokens to another player. We tried looking up the rulings to see if tokens are able to "march" over to another player on the team. We understand that when a token moves they cease to exist, but you aren't losing control of them. It is still the original owners creature but it also states they have summoning sickness again. We're also looking for a more in depth rules post on the whole format.

Considering:
Beguiler of Wills Seems a little weak as a 1/1 plus it relies on having a bigger board.
Empress Galina My meta doesn't use a huge amount of Legends, but once I get her I'll test her out.
Shapesharer Not sure that I want to continue dumping mana to change him for a turn.
Higure, of the Steel Wind Ninja Tutor and can make them unblockable...
Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni Can be tutored by Higure, of the Steel Wind
Quicksilver Gargantuan Pretty expensive for a clone...
Unstable Shapeshifter He seems really fun but I'm not sure how viable he would be.
Memory Plunder Most my group have weak spells
Ashnod's Altar Sac outlet...
Black Sun's Zenith We have a LOT of gods running around...
Telemin Performance Seems to risky...
Leyline of Anticipation I love flashing things in, it keeps mana open to make them think counters and clones can attack my next turn...
Vedalken Orrery Same as Leyline of Anticipation
Whip of Erebos Lifelink and Graveyard abuse? Yes please!
Phyrexian Reclamation Abuse those creatures!
Batterskull +4/+4, Lifelink and Vigilance... Enough said..
Crystal Ball I think this card trumps Sensei's Divining Top because I don't do a lot of shuffling...
Liliana Vess Reusable Tutor
If I could afford it:
Underground Sea
Gilded Drake
Old Man of the Sea
Phyrexian Altar
Demonic Tutor
Vampiric Tutor
