  • posted a message on P1P2: Common Bond vs Centaur Healer vs Slime Molding
to me the only thing that is clear is that it's definitely NOT common bond

i think healer and slime both have merit

you can never go wrong with a healer it's just a really solid 3drop and the kind of card that is the meat and potatoes of the deck

but really the slime molding is just the pick here

the molding has a lot more upside - on one hand if you are to a point where you are populating infinite tokens with your guildmage the molding isn't that relevant since you win anyways, but you are quite likely to end up with a lot of other populate stuff in this deck such as rootborn or deliverance or trostani's or eyes or etc, so populating a giant slime molding can be a winning end game finisher all on its own without ever drawing guildmage, so i think in the deck you are likely to try to build the slime molding is just a much better pick

Also, you lose money in every queue so I don't see the point of that part of your comment.

people blowing the ramifications out of saying something WAY out of proportion

if you bring it up directly all of a sudden no one will be your friend and someone might attack you?

    lol c'mon guys

also ppl using this as an avenue to make subtle brags or tell war stories aka "thats nothing i drafted a deck this one time that put it to shame" or "you think that's a deck? you should see this one from..."

the whole "confrontation" can be something as simple as:

"damn dude you got these powerhouse decks ALL the time! lol i'm keepin an eye on you next time"

(don't actually say "lol" obv just smile and laugh and be jokey friendly)

it is really not a big deal at all

it's not some dramatic moment it's just a little passing conversation. if he's not cheating it's really not very offensive and almost complimentary and if he is consistently cheating it lets him know people are starting to notice.

edit: if you have something to say in life just say it.

if you can't accept someone is a superior drafter and cry cheat way too prematurely, then the problem is not that you shouldn't be an open communicator it is that you are insecure and fly off the handle and/or a host of other things - i'm giving OP the benefit of the doubt and assuming he's a reasonable guy that smells a rat and just isn't sure how to broach the subject

dont listen to your friends when they give you deck building advice

i watched the replay of your 2nd stream.

i see you had your friend back again. this time he didn't even watch your stream and comment on magic, but instead spent most of the time asking random questions about EVE with no regard to the stream. i guess that was actually better tbh lol!

i liked the other friend (jon?) who joined later in the stream tho, he seemed cool

sucks to scrub out but no one wins every time, the deck still seems sound no big deal

people will play around supreme verdict once they've seen you play it, but c'mon guys no one is holding back running out creatures in game 1 even if you don't play anything on turn 3

he's more likely to assume you are 3 color and missing a land or that you are holding some high cost cost stuff or you are keeping counter mana open than he is to play around a rare he didn't see during draft

how did you come up with that deck btw?

also i can't find any active forums or anything to discuss rtr constructed strategies - i mean i'm posting here but there seems to be very little traffic - where do you talk shop about rtr block?

ok i was being too polite about your friend

he is making the thing damn near unwatchable

please do stream again but please do not ever have him back i'm not trying to be rude or a jerk but it's really really rough

    you are cool tho

    watching the replay now

nice deck, good to see a new brew

i play a lot of U/W control so it's good to see how you play against it

what do you think about slaughter games in the side?

one bit of feedback about the stream, though - your friend needs to go!

it's nice to have someone else to chat with to fill dead time in the stream, but he clearly doesn't know the format and as a viewer it's very tiresome hearing his comments and questions - i'm sure he's a cool guy and everything but it doesn't seem like this is his niche

other than that i'm quite enjoying the stream! Smile

edit: also perhaps find something to do between rounds, just play practice matches with that or another block constructed deck or goof around with momir or talk about deck tweaking options or something mtgo related

Do people actually enjoy 4-pack sealed, or do they just enjoy the high EV it offers?

i started playing it for the EV no doubt but once i got used to it i actually find the format quite fun

first of all building my collection as cheaply as possible and opening mythics is fun!

right before the packs open i cover my mtgo screen with another window, and slowly move it to the right so i can evaluate each color on its own starting on the left with white and get a nice sweat of the opening process that way, keeping tally of how many rares are left along the way or what guild gold cards i want - that's fun to me

opening a real stinker and squeezing out a 2-1 for 3 packs where my opponents may have 0-3'd with the same cards is quite satisfying and fun

avoiding traps and knowing when to build around a bomb and when to leave it on the sidelines in favor of a more solid playable base in other colors is fun

sometimes you can build two almost equally powered decks in different colors, and i will side out a color splash or even side out an entire deck based on draw vs play or matchup - something about winning game 1 with a rakdos deck and opening game 2 with an azorius guildgate is fun

maximizing a card considered unplayable in draft and having it actually provide solid value in a game is fun

getting to play your most cool/powerful cards more often given 30 cards is fun

having less downtime since the rounds finish more quickly is fun

that's just a few things off the top of my head the list goes on and on

plus it's still magic after all, i mean playing magic is fun right?

i love draft too and find draft quite enjoyable, but 4pack definitely has its charms too and its something i enjoy quite a bit
