So, while venturing into 2 colors, I'm trying to keep the deck really low to the ground and prioritize my 2 drops to have explosive vial games. In my test draws and test games I have yet to be screwed on the colors for the sideboard cards and for the mainboard Spreading Seas although I wouldnt run a green sideboard card like Natural State since I only have 8 green sources.
I'm redoing my Nahiri blend so that I can try out the Ancestral Vision cards that I picked up from Iconic Masters. Its more of an adaptation of a blue/white control shell with a splash of red. I've also gone out of my way to diversify the CMC for my answers and threats as there are plenty of Chalice floating around my LGS.
My guess is the power 9 with a masterpiece printing treatment but not with an MTG backing. It will only be usable in draft and then afterwards serve the same functionality as the Collector's Edition. It will have the same pull chance as a masterpiece, or about 1-2 per case.
Over the past couple weeks I've played against Elves, Burn, Death's Shadow, 8-Rack, Copy Cat, UW Control, BW Tokens, Eldrazi Tron. My only two losses over 4 tournaments have been to Copy Cat where I couldn't get anything to stick, and 8-Rack, where their discard plan left me will little choices. Ensnaring bridge from the board is always a great surprise to them. Game 1 wins are usually Stormbreath and Koth Elemental Based. Game 2 Wins are usually pillow fort ultimating Planeswalkers tactics. Eternal Scourge is still a great choice in my current meta as it combos with relic and they waste removal spells that would have been better spent on the stormbreath dragons.
I'm actually really happy with only having 2 copies of Pia and Kiran Nalar in the deck. I know a lot of people run 3 but I havent missed the third copy. I'd rather have another stormbreath in the main board. Blood Moon still steals random wins and comboed with Ensnaring bridge completely shuts down Death's Shadow. The pure frustration of those cards together usually ends in a scoop win while informing me that they could use their Anguished Unmaking to deal with one of them (if they are on esper) or it simple shuts down their kolaghan's command as they no longer have colors.
I won modern last night with Skred Red.
I ran 4 and 4 of Koth and Chandra with 4 ensnaring bridge in the side.
I faced off against blue black artifacts, eldrazi Tron, and Storm.
Blue Black artifacts was an easy match up.
Storm I was surprised I was able to take however well placed bolts and Skreds on his creatures along with a couple timely relics for a 2-1 win.
Tron it was all about ensnaring bridge after the board and blood moon in both games to ultimate Chandra in both games.
I had some good March ups for a great win. I also really liked running all 8 Planeswalkers
I'm tempted to put the Stomping Ground main in a Mountain slot however I like having 3 instead of 2 and I want to keep my non white sources down to 4.
It's basically a step further with the Boros burn, just in a different direction. Bump is great in speed and destructive Revelry is the best artifact/enchantment.
Yeah, the only reason Claim//Fame is run is to resurrect an 8/8+ creature and give it haste. Pretty good for 3 mana.
So, I usually find elconquistador to be a bit abrupt sometimes, however this time he was really just spelling out the factual statistics and the true history of Vexing Devil (hint: I played it too in Dega Burn back before Khans of Tarkir), but as dicey of a play it was back then its a complete mistake at this point with Fatal Push. That's why people are playing even less creatures and posting results without Eidolon. Just remember, deathstroke, you did ask for an opinion and one was offered. I also think its a complete mistake at this point and I can't ever imagine a scenario where it will ever be added back into Burn. You might as well sell those cards so you can get a couple more staples that you desperately need for your deck like 4 boros charm which will always be the right call, and you could even focus on Goblin Guide while its more reasonable in price than it was.
I also ran Nacatl last year at Gen Con and won one of the big modern tournaments there. It's time is also done. Current Modern = 1. Play a ton of creatures and jam them on the field into destruction so that you can hopefully overrun them. 2. Play a couple creatures and control the situation / play creatures that have evasion, or 3. Play the least amount of creatures as possible as to avoid being tempo played.
So I think I kind of want to try out the Shrine of the Burning Rage for my upcoming weekly modern tournament. I don't know if 4 is really the right number and I'm thinking I'll land back on 3, maybe even 2. I'm perfectly ok with trying Eidolon out of the main just for fun. Eidolon is starting to feel like a trap card again. I'd also like to run 4 R/W Fastlands in the main. My current list runs no Grim and runs 1 or 2 Shard. Shard is going to have negative synergy with Shrine so it has to go. My list is pretty similar to the GP's list.
I really am thinking about trimming the Shrine down to 3. In doubles its icky. Even 2 might not be that bad. I'd still like to try it out though. I'm going to go ahead and keep the Eidolon out and I'm trying to figure out what I will run in it's place. I'm loathe to run Grim but that might be about it. Shard is real bad with shrine. I'm kind of tempted to run 3 Inspiring and 1 Blood Crypt for Bump in the Night. I could even do something like running a Blood Crypt main and 1 stomping ground in the side. Anything is up in the air right now.
Spicy list.
I think I'm in love. Definitely going to sleeve it up and give it a try. I'm all for running less creatures in a meta where creatures do not survive.
Felidar is more there for his rear. He is out of reach of typical kill cards such as fatal push, he is a huge resource drain for harnessed lightning and his life gain and vigilance is significant. I think it's best to look at him as though his alternative win clause doesn't exist.
I'm not sure after rotation. I don't know if I'd play the deck without oath of Nissa. Oath is just such amazing filter.
I went 2-1-1 for 4th place at Standard Showdown. My list is the same as in my first post except I went ahead and put 4 Gideon, Ally in the mainboard isntead of the Dusk//Dawn and moved that to side. I sided in the Dusk // Dawn against my GR energy decks. My loss was to Ramunap Red. I'm thinking Life Goes On as in both losses to them I needed about 1 more turn to stabilize and they are pretty consistent with killing off my kittens.
Every matchup, every game. Gideon is a beast.
I think the deck has potential, it just definetely needs to be ironed out. In both my wins against UB Cycle and GR Red I didnt feel like I was on the losing end of the battle. I always had a blocker for their creatures on GR Red and I was way too established on UB Cycle before they hit me (That game I 2-0). My draw was against UW storm as the games took a ridiculously long time to close out. First game took forever. I closed out after them going up to 30 life before I started hittng them for 12-24 a turn. Second game they were able to squeak their combo by very quickly and I didnt draw my artifact disruption. Third game I disrupted their board state but couldnt close out in turns even though I was probably one turn from kill.
Sacred Cat is a requirement against Red. Adorned Pouncer is great in the GR matchup. 1/1 double strike that you trade in early turns to make a 4/4 or 5/5 double striker. Unless they have serious tricks they are going to bare minimum trade their energy pumped creature with the Pouncer.
I can see a huge argument for a couple verdurous gearhulk in a god slot or in one of my felidar sovereign spots (or both spots and move those to side). At that point you would hope to have enough creatures on the board to support running it. I will actually probably playtest 2 of these in my felidar slots for thursday standard. Ill be expecting a lot of red so I may even dedicate 4 lifegain cards to my sideboard for thursday as well. I'm thinking about adjusting out the gods and bringing declaration in mainboard. Here would be my list:
4 Shard Volley is a dangerous game. I remember when it was necessary, however it no longer is.
I did a PPTQ over the weekend and was surprised at how much burn I faced (3 out of my 5 matches). I'm going to go ahead and rededicate some side slots to it. Lightning Helix makes a big difference in the mirror as well.
Here is my list going forward. I think it's close to what I'll take to September's Louisville.
I was thinking the other day that I wanted to come back to Goblins, however try out the splash artifacts version and be super low to the ground. Going to give this a try:
If you are an old spinster living at home alone, then this deck might be for you! (Others may find enjoyment with it as well). The premise of the deck is to hit them hard with ever breeding cute, adorable, fuzzballs of death.
Your piles of fur:
Wily Bandar - Indestructible is about all this lil kitten has going for it. Probably not a first choice. Scythe Leopard - A 2/2 for 1 most of your early turns. A strong "cat"tender. Sacred Cat - A reoccurring lifelink cat. A solid winner.
Adorned Pouncer - Double striker that will benefit from the cat lord buffs. And it comes back bigger and badder. An auto-include. Felidar Cub - Enchantment destruction means it might have a sideboard slot. Feral Prower - Cantripping catnipping creature upon kitty death. a possible include for budget models. Initiate's Companion - Combo's with our cat lord Pride Sovereign. A strong "cat"tender Longtusk Cub - For the grindier builds, this cat will become a papa meower in no time. Scrounging Bandar - If you want to go bigger and badder with Adorned Pouncer or moving counters to our lifelink kitties, this may have a spot for you. Watchers of the Dead - Graveyard matters, and cat lives matter. A definite include for the sideboard
Non-Kitty:
Metallic Mimic - Important for making our kitties bigger, badder, and fluffier than they were before. An auto include. Also it becomes adopted by the cat tribe upon entering the battlefield! Selfless Spirit - Think of him as our beloved cat house grounds tender. Will sacrifice himself so that kitties may live. Whatta guy!
Throne of the God-Pharaoh - We turn a lot of kitties sideways (though never faceup) an strong "cat"tender if you are doing a kitty blitz build.
Aetherstream Leopard - If you are using an energy build this may be a cat for you. Graceful Cat - a 2/2 that temporarily can become a 3/3 for 3. More of a budget kitty at best. Pouncing Cheetah - Flash 3/2 means it might have a spot if you anticipate a lot of control Pride Sovereign - One of our 2 kitten overlords. An auto-include Prowling Serpopard - This cat has a lot of spunk and makes your other cats stick. An auto-include in the main or side.
Stalking Tiger - a 3/3 for 4 isn't really what we are lookign for.
Non Kitty:
Oketra the True - Coming up with 3 kitties to accompany her is not hard to do. Should include at least a couple in the main. Dusk // Dawn - Our kitty Cat-tastrophy (for them!). Most of our early creatures will sneak under this board clearance before you start endowing them with buffs. Then late game return a basket full of kitties from your graveyard to hand to start the fun all over again. Combos with Selfless Spirit for a wild one-sided board wipe when two armies face off. Gideon, Ally of Zendikar - Grants a powerful buff to all of our cats.
Regal Caracal - Our second Kitty overlord. Gives you kitten minions, buffs, and gains you life for cuddling extra close. Riparian Tiger - For an energy build
Felidar Sovereign - while a little long in the tooth when it comes to cost, this cat combos with your lifelinkers to give you an extra win condition and a little more fur under the belt. A fine top end to finish out a kitten deck.
Takes advantage of Dusk on the curve before you drop your lords. This deck is midrange and is meant to overwhelm your opponent with a constant stock of cute cuddly critters that have sharp fangs and nasty claws.
Currently working on Kitty Blitz and Cat Energy. Post your lists to possibly be included in the primer! Feel free to post non-kitty cards that should also be looked at! Thanks!!
Then as your cards get expended you either use the Eternalize feature or you return everything from your graveyard to your hand. Felidar is a one of on the top curve to have a beef cake in the deck.
I'm also working on a placeholder for the sideboard. I'm thinking starting out with:
Adorned Pouncer and Pride Sovereign is just what this deck needed to be viable. Here is my take on the deck. I'm sure there will be plenty of other people with plenty of iterations.
Initial playtesting: The deck is made to be able to play Dusk on the curve and start clearancing out the opponents bigger and badder creatures. From there you can play one of your 8 lords as well as one of your gods. Late game Selfless Spirit and Dusk make a meaty combo and Dawn will return most of your creatures from your graveyard to your hand. Metallic Mimic and token creation is a beast. The 1 of Felidar Sovereign is always a great top deck. I'd be shy to play 2 since it has a significant mana cost.

In my test draws and test games I have yet to be screwed on the colors for the sideboard cards and for the mainboard Spreading Seas although I wouldnt run a green sideboard card like Natural State since I only have 8 green sources.
