  • posted a message on Advice for a new Laptop for SC2/D3.
    Greetings everyone,

I mis-posted this elsewhere so hopefully this is the right location to get a little help.

I am in the market for a new computer and I am used to the standard gaming rig (Giant PC). I am now at a point in my life where I need portability. I want a computer that is better then what I currently have which I will post at the very end.

So with that being said I will start off with a few things that I have heard and then a what is better portion.

1: For SC2 and Diablo3 I have been told and seen from several places and people that Intel is superior to AMD because these two games are more CPU dependent. True? False?

2: If going with Intel I have heard that the I5 4210U is better then the I7 4510U because these games do not use multi-threading. True? False?

    3: Do I really need a 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M or will I be fine with a 2GB NVIDIA GeForce 840M?

    4: I assume that 8GB DDR3L System Memory (1 Dimm) is enough?

The two systems I am looking at are below.

HP Envy 15t Select, total cost: $736.39

    Operating system Windows 8.1 64
    Processor and Graphics 4th generation Intel® Core™ i5-4210U Dual Core Processor + 2GB NVIDIA GeForce 840M Graphics

    Keyboard Backlit Keyboard
Personalization HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Dual Digital Microphone, Fingerprint Reader

HP Envy 15t, total cost: $761.99 With the 4GB Video Card it is $829.19

    Operating system Windows 8.1 64
    Processor and Graphics 4th generation Intel® Core™ i7-4510U Dual Core Processor + 2GB NVIDIA GeForce 840M Graphics

I appreciate any thoughts you guys have. I really don't want to spend more money then I have to. For reference I can play the game on high/ultra right now with this setup on my PC. Which laptop beats what I currently have?

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
    3.1 GB RAM
    Windows Vista
Crossfired ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series with 1.7GB Video Ram

My "Total Package" White Weenie deck only cost me approximately $10.00 give or take a few dimes.

The only cards more expensive then 10 cents at my LGS were these,

    Unmake = $1.00 per
Oblivion Ring = .50 cents per

So even to go highly competitive and versatile the cost is extremely minimal.

    DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards
    Creatures 30
    4 Benevolent Bodyguard
    3 Guardian of the Guildpact
    4 Icatian Javelineers
    4 Kor Skyfisher
    4 Razor Golem
    4 Squadron Hawk
    4 Standard Bearer
    3 Suture Priest

    Spells 10
    3 Bonesplitter
    3 Journey to Nowhere
    2 Prismatic Strands
    2 Unmake

    Lands 20
    17 Plains
    3 Secluded Steppe

I like the Primer, straight and to the point. As a whole this is everything that is required to get people started playing the Archtype.

As for your match up section you can most likely take my Total Package White Weenie match up against my own Delver deck for that section if you wish. I don't have an in depth breakdown but my own Delver went 1 and 2 against my White Weenie due to the versatility.

I use to play this deck in paper pauper

    16 swamp
    4 dark ritual
    4 funeral charm
    4 duress
    4 hymn to tourach
    4 sinkhole
    4 carnophage
    4 vampire lacerator
    4 dauthi horror
    4 dauthi slayer
    4 erg raiders
    4 unholy strength
    Side
    3 tormod's crypt
    4 darkness
    4 cuombajj witches
    4 snuff out
It's an old style sui black because in paper i can play the old powerfull sinkhole and hymn, it's lethal against any control decks!
Fast aggro like goblins are a serious problem!
    any thoughts?

What are the community's thoughts on [card]Blazing Salvo[/card? Many players have a knee-jerk dislike of punisher cards, but I've always been fond of this one. It's aggressively-costed creature removal, and a lot of players would rather take the five to the dome than lose a key piece of their deck. And for the things that you really want gone, it's not like you won't have other means of getting rid of them shortly afterwards.

It depends on the deck you are running and what your opponent has. Most Burn decks go for the fast life total kill, but Blazing Solvo can actually give your opponent an extra turn if they choose to let something die. Not only that but if your opponent has no creatures at all the card is useless.

I am pretty iffy about this one.

So I've been playing around with this all day, and here's the deck I've landed on:

    DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards
    Land
    21 Plains

    Creatures
    4 Icatian Javelineers
    4 Razor Golem
    4 Squadron Hawk
    4 Standard Bearer
    4 Kor Skyfisher
    2 Benevolent Bodyguard
    2 Guardian of the Guildpact
    2 Suture Priest

    Spells
    4 Bonesplitter
    3 Journey to Nowhere
    2 Prismatic Strands
    2 Unmake

This deck is very flexible, and I enjoy how different I can play it depending on the matchup.

The under-performer of this deck is Suture Priest. I want to get it out early, but I always feel like I have more important cards to play. I'm considering taking it out completely and putting it in the sideboard for creature-heavy decks. Maybe I'm just under-utilizing it.

The more I use Standard Bearer, the more I learn to appreciate it. What a useful card! I am glad I have it, but is 4x too many?

2x GoG seems to be the right number.

I haven't decided how many Benevolent Bodyguards I want, yet. Any thoughts?

4x Razor Golem is okay, but I might be better off with only 3x?

Playing Kor Sanctifiers with the kicker cost is very expensive, and they usually end up sitting in my hand doing nothing. Do people like mainboarding these, or should they be designated to the sideboard?

Below is the deck that I take to tournaments and have consistent wins with. I think Suture Priest is an excellent card at a 3x both early or mid game because it makes your opponent think about if the creature they are playing is worth the beat to the face, and especially if you have 2+ out. It also becomes a target for removal so it also saves creatures such as Standard Bearer and Guardian of the Guildpact.

Ever since I through Standard Bearer into the deck and starting raising hell with it people have taken notice and started to use the card more often, and if you pair it with Inviolability the game is over in most cases.

I run 4x Benevolent Bodyguards simply because I value everything in the deck and I use him to either protect my creatures so they can attack through enemy mono colors or I use him to make the opponent waste removal on maybe a Suture Priest and just protect it away.

As you can see, my Kor Sanctifiers are in my sideboard, they are not mainboard cards.

    Hmmm..

I would never consider dropping Guardian of the Guildpact. To me personally I really don't care for the deck list you posted because it completely removed any hint of what I feel makes White Weenie a staple and a high quality top-tier deck, and that is the removal is its versatility.

With the deck list that I run for instance I can handle nearly every single threat thrown at me, I may not win all the time but I have a fighting chance. With that being said I have beaten every single type of deck more than once with what I run because of the control, aggression, and over versatile mechanics that are employed when using White Weenie.

White Weenie and the Soldier archtypes are my absolute lifes blood in Magic so in my experience and opinion I wouldn't change a thing unless something dramatic happens like an updated Standard Bearer that has zero downsides to it.

You do have to remember though, this is for paper play and it is different then online play, and of course meta's will be different from place to place.

Very interesting post! You seem to be gathering plenty of valuable information concerning the archetype.

You know, I've always wondered this: Why play Needle Drop instead of Flame Jab? Drop is much more situational, and draws you a single card. Flame jab turns all your excess lands into damage. Seems so much better, no?

You should take this to the Burn Primer by XBM Yosho. He's back from a little break, and I'm sure he'd be very interested in a little revival!

Reading this thread makes me miss Shoebaka

You have to also remember though that in my Burn deck for instance every single land is important because I use them to sacrifice for both Fireblast and Shard Volley. So if I don't get enough lands in my hand then Flame Jab is useless in terms of the secondary effect but at least I can still throw out a Needle Drop and replenish a card.

I was looking through the Lorwyn set list the other day and came across Surge of Thoughtweft. This is a very good cantrip for any deck that uses a fair amount of Kithkin creatures. This is especially great with the full Kithkin build. With the Banneret in play it only cost one mana! This is strictly better than Glorious Charge in most decks.

I agree, when I have a free minute I will update the guide and the deck. Good catch!
