Anomica, interesting build. How often do you get Staff of Nin in play, and by that time, are you stabilized for victory? Or are you playing it for needed cards? I am also finding pillars of flames being used for mainly mana dorks. When I face zombies; it wins big time. Have you tried underworld connections? I like it better than sign in blood cause its a target to waste a kill spell and lasts longer for cards.
The Staff helped wonderfully against grindy games. That's why I'm keeping only one of.
If I draw it in opening hand, great I wont draw it again.
The chances of drawing it against aggro decks game 1 are low, but of course possible.
But against decks (especially in the case of that specific Game Day) playing it against 4C reanimator was what ended helping me get to the cards I needed to win, as well as ping the spirits down.
I don't think it's for everyone, but I still need to playtest this deck more to see if it'll come through like I want it too.
And as far as underworld connections goes, I just don't own any =/
As well, I only owned 1 Olivia Voldaren. So I ran 1 copy of Bloodgift Demon as another big flyer who also drew me extra cards.
The Wolfir Avenger's were possibly my other favorite creatures in the deck.
As for the spells, most are pretty obvious. I chose only 2 Pillar of Flames due to the meta of the shop, which had no zombie decks at all. I didn't know that at the beginning but I knew I wasn't going to see that many anyway, the Pillars usually ended up being the first thing I sided out.
I think 1 Bonfire of the Damned is perfectly fine. At least, it worked out well. I ended up playing a lot of grindy games going late so I either miracle'd it for the win, or in one game against 4C Rites, I actually was able to kill of 2 Angel of Serenity and their Thrag. That was a pleasant feeling!
Finally, I ran the 1 Staff of Nin As it really helped me outdraw most of my opponents, and ping mana dorks.
I think the SB is fairly obvious, tributes for Geist. I really wasn't thinking too much about Sigarda, there was somoene running one but I never faced him.
Well anyway, I feel most of this is obvious Jund Mid-Range cards. I don't like Keyrune however, I rather play VNH, or leave mana open and pretend to have terrible draws, hoping to invoke them to attack with Geist so I can flash in the Avenger
That actually works. I'm a pretty bad player so the people there were used to me not drawing anything, and not used to me having Avengers. I think they're prolly my favorite card in the deck, just getting a 3/3 regen duder who can block and be casted in on their turn. Against control I really like playing spells on their turn.
Anyway, Hope this helps! there are obvious changes I would make, like finishing off the playset of huntmasters, thrags and getting another slaughter games. I'm really enjoying the deck however, more than others that I've playtested online...
Just a deck I've been play-testing with. I didn't really understand Modern while it didn't have a meta, so I just made a deck that would be fun, but also be able to hold up.
I call it Four Color Cruel Control, because it's basically Cruel Control with Path's and Lightning Helix. I think the life gain is very important to keep me alive, and Path is one of the best removals.
Helix and Bolt are able to pick off most creatures in a mid-range deck. Here's the list I'm running right now:
The sideboard still needs some refining. I have flashfreeze for burn and if any Valakut decks arise. Though it looks like most people are running combo decks.
It's basically draw-go until I ultimatum. The reason why I'm running the Lavaclaw is that I can pump them. Creeping tar pit is nice but I'm more focused on the late game.
