I don't think I need Firewalkers. In my experience, I've been favored against Naya due to my manabase.
I played Twin in the quarterfinals. Of all people, Twin players understand that they can't just jam the combo into Revelry mana. They play around it. As long as you have the ability to play at instant speed, you can ride the threat of Revelry into a win.
My goal was to build a list that I felt addressed the biggest problems Burn faces: Aggro decks and sideboard cards. White has many strong cards, but I think that 2 colors is the right way to go, and that green has the most to offer. I would not play 3 colors right now.
Because so much has to go wrong for you to lock yourself out with Eidolon. The only reason that happened was because Shahar took 4 casting a Mutagenic Growth, and it wouldn't have mattered if he hadn't missed an Eidolon trigger on Chapin's Swiftspear. That scenario was the result of Shahar making multiple mistakes, when he could have easily taken the match. Keep in mind, Chapin took 6 before he got a chance to kill the Eidolon.
I want to ask what everyone thinks about Destructive Revelry. I read Raph Levy's article, and he says that it's not good against the decks that bring in Leyline of Sanctity, because you have a bad matchup against them anyway. In my experience, this has been true. If Magic Online is to be trusted, the only prevalent decks that run Leyline are Bogles and Ad Nauseam, which are both close to unbeatable as Burn. I'm heading to a PTQ next weekend, and I want to know if anyone thinks Destructive Revelry is worth the slot. I'm playing Rb, and this is my sideboard currently:
3 of my losses were to Affinity and one to Merfolk, and I want to make some changes to improve those matchups. Right now, I'm replacing the Hellspark Elementals with Grim Lavamancers, but the Flames of the Blood Hands could also be cut for something else.
I tried out Supreme Verdict. It would have been great against Jund if I had the mana to cast it. So, I traded for a Damnation. I'm going to bring this to a PTQ this weekend, and would appreciate any suggestions.
So a mono red burn deck won one of the GP Minneapolis trials. It features main deck Spark Elemental and sideboard Satyr Firedancer. I think Spark Elemental deserves some discussion. It looks like he's playing it over Vexing Devil. What do you think?
Right now, I want to test some cards against UWR (my meta's full of it). I was thinking about Hellspark Elemental. I'm also still not sure if 19 or 20 lands is correct. Any feedback is welcome.
I'm a long time lurker. I decided to start commenting for one reason: Modern season. I'm a very competitive player, but school has prevented me from travelling to more than a few tournaments. I will be in between high school and college this summer, so I can afford to go to more tournaments. I want to qualify for the Pro Tour, and I'm looking to improve as much as possible. I'm from NYC and currently running Burn.
