These articles are always my favorite activity in cube design when a new set comes out. Thanks!

As an aside, I would love for you to write an article or a post sometime on the "misses" that you had when evaluating in your set articles and then an explanation on what changed or what you didn't see. I think it would help a lot of people when they are evaluating cards for themselves. Smile

I have been playing with this all day! Thank you for all the work! I had just posted my cube a few days ago so I have to wait for a data refresh to see where I land.

I think most of all it shows we are a diverse community and its time to put down the hatchets of criticizing cubes as lazy or inferior based on our own biases. We should all embrace the diverse cubes and this cube map is a huge opportunity to learn from each other’s work. Smile

    Hi everyone!

I’m Geena - I used to hang out here and had two cubes - one of the earliest 180 Travel cubes and a 450 All-Foil cube. Life happened, I drifted a way from cube a little and I had to sell a lot of cards to make some ends meet. Things have gotten better and I can now start to slowly put together my cube again! I have always been drawn to smaller cubes, I enjoy the mind game of trying to support everything in a small footprint. I also like to have something easy to transport. I currently have the entire 270 in a Dex Protection Supreme One Row with enough room for some tokens and a few spin downs.

I probably will never have two cubes again because of the expense, and right now I am happy with the 270. I have no one to really play Magic with and no way to get into a group with COVID and all so I feel like this is the right size. Right now its all about enjoying putting it together by myself. I will probably land on 360 sometime, but I don’t want to water down the quality, so I’d rather it be smaller than a bunch of filler cards.

Anyway, I feel bad I just disappeared, but I am happy to be back doing cube. My cube is in my signature!

I would rank original non-foil borders above new border foils.

On a similar note, I'm interested in what people think of Timespiral Remastered old border treatment of new cards. I am somewhat hyped for a few, but I realised that this is only the case for cards from either supplemental products, from products that I have no attachment toor ones that just fit into old border.
The first category would be Palace Jailer (from Conspiracy), the second Young Pyromancer (from a core set) and the third Yawgmoth (who really belongs into the world of old border). Everything else I don't want, even though I love old border. I would never exchange my Lorwyn foil Ponder with this new Ponder. Not because it's foil, but because Ponder comes from Lorwyn and I remember playing the card in the old days.
I first realised being pedantic about that when I bought an extended art Mulldrifter from Commander Legends and realised that I don't want to play the card over my Lorwyn Mulldrifter.

    What do people here think?

I love the old border in general - I will likely take a look at what I get in my Time Spiral packs and decide if I want to move any of them to old border. I think we agree in that I like to have the card represented in the cube with its original printing. For me it shows the history of Magic captured in my cube.

However - there are some cards that seem to fit the old border really well. People complained when the art style changed on Magic Cards but have you noticed how some of that more "modern art" just looks right when in the old border? Kinda neat. I think my favorites in that vein are Solemn Simulacrum, Flickerwisp and Remand.

I don't know how many will make it into my cube, but glad they exist. Im sure people who have "old border only" cubes are going to have a field day if they decide to include them. Smile

    Hi All!

I'm back putting a cube together after an extended absence from cubing! Smile I have my cube rebuilt, but trying to figure out the best way to bling it out. I totally realize this is a first world problem. My question is - when blinging out a cube, do you feel reprint foils in the new borders are higher or lower on the bling spectrum than putting that same card in its original old school printing with the old borders?

I do kinda like seen g the original expansion represented, but the foils are pretty too. Smile

Looks neat. What's informed your multicolor picks?

    Trial and error Smile

About 6 months ago I changed up my multi-color. I found that despite having the "best" multi-color card in each color pair (I one one for each) they were becoming dead picks in 4 player and didn't see the table as much even in two player (Winston/Winchester). So I decided to go all hybrid/Split cards with the idea they would see more play (and they have).

    Hi!

So I figured I'd join in here! I've been doing the "Travel Cube" thing a long time - it is a challenge to put one together, but they are really fun to play.

My updated list is here: http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/1244

I'ts a "traditional" 180 card cube. 29 of each color, 25 colorless, one multi-color cycle, one land cycle, two utility lands.

In addition, I have been writing a series of cube articles you may find useful. They are written for beginners, but the entire series is intended to teach them how to set up a small 180 card cube or "cube skeleton" if they want to go bigger.

The first article can be found here: http://www.nomadgamer.com/2016/7/18/travel-cubed

I don't pretend to be an expert, but I do have a lot of trial and error experience, so if anyone has a question let me know Smile

Here's my Origins update! Kind of conservative this time around. Origins is a fantastic set, I'm just waiting to see how things go with a few cards before adding them. I've also been spending most of my cube budget on replacing the Remaining Power 9 proxies with collector's edition cards! (That would be Black Lotus, Time Walk, Ancestral Recall and Mox Sapphire). I also added an Unlimited Mox Jet and Mox Pearl bringing the real Power 9 cards to five!

    Anyway here's the changes....

    IN -----> OUT

    W
Kytheon, Hero of Akros -----> Savannah Lions Frown
    B
Kokusho, The Evening Star -----> Priest of the Blood Rite
    Languish -----> Black Sun's Zenith
    G
Nissa, Vastwood Seer -----> Omnath, Locus of Mana

Funny aside, While a not insignificant portion of the country was watching the Bruce Jenner interview I was at a comic book store playing Friday Night Magic and getting my clock cleaned since I haven't had time to play any of the cards in this block. Everyone was laid back and the few times that they referred to me it was as "Geena" or "her" and that is all I wanted out of the entire night anyway. They invited me back in two weeks to play in another tournament and to stay after at the store with the group and play casual games after it was over (I didn't bring any decks with me tonight). It was a good evening.

So... Ben has gotten me all squared away over at CubeTutor, so for anyone that cares or is a bit confused by all the name changes I have been transitioning and full time since December. I'm going by Geena now. So if you are going to gossip about me just use "she" and ""her" and I'll be fine with it. Grin

In all seriousness, it has taken me a long time to get to this place and Magic and the cube community pulled me through some pretty dark times without even knowing what was going on.

I don't expect negativity here, but if you are so inclined you always have the ability to just ignore my posts or block my user. It will be easier on both of us.

Anyway, thanks for being there, and I now return you to the previously scheduled cube list thread.

BTW it apparently gets an act of Congress to get someone at Curse to change a user name. If anyone knows who I can PM to get it done let me know Smile

No changes the Travel Cube in Dragons of Tarkir!

Zurgo Bellstriker is amazing and close to an include, but I can't cut Goblin Guide or Grim Lavamancer. In a cube this small I value the flexibility of these two mechanics more Smile

Why so quiet lately? Check out my other thread here: http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/the-cube-forum/cube-lists/192751-450-powered-thegebs-shiny-cube-dtk-update?page=6

    Hi!

Sorry it has taken me so long to post my Dragons of Tarkir update. I have been going through some life changes, which is an understatement... more to come in a few days. I have also moved to sunny Beaverton Oregon, so if anyone knows a 30's 40's cube group than needs another let me know! The nine day, 3,137 mile drive had me a little pre-occupied, but I caught up on my cube podcasts! Thanks for the company on the road guys!

Here are my changes. Note that I haven't gone the route of a triple color or morph package so I am only putting in three new cards.

    IN ----- OUT

    W
Dragon Hunter ----- Soldier of the Pantheon
Yes, I know this is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, but I like the flavor of this card better and I don't think it hurts the cube.

    R
    Zurgo Bellstriker ----- Generator Servant

    BG
Kolaghan's Command ----- Grenzo, Dungeon Warden

Also on my drive I pondered the future of my cube and I have decided to change the rules a bit. Previously my cube had a "gimmick" it was "all-foil" No card could touch my cube's world unless it was printed in shiny. I have decided to amend that a bit. All cards will be foil - unless they are on the Reserved List. Reserved List cards may be proxied until obtained.

This will give me some new cards to chase!

So effective immediately real versions of Mox Ruby, Mox Emerald, Timetwister, ABUR Duals, Pox, Recurring Nightmare and Moat are in the cube along with this additional change:

    IN ----- OUT

    B
    The Abyss ------ Snuff Out
