You need to read the reminder text on a Scavenge card.

"Exile this card from your graveyard: Put a number of +1/+1 counters equal to this card's power on target creature. Scavenge only as a sorcery"

Note that it does not specify "target creature you control".

    Awwww....someone else figured it out.

This is an outrage....that was my idea. Smile

Hey all. I decided on enchantress as my next deck type. I know the archetype has its mainstay in legacy, but i'm looking for help converting it to 100 card. I've seen some lists online, but i'm looking to get some more feedback.

The plan right now is either naya, or 5c child. My 5c mana base would be basics and a few shocks/utility lands, so land hate enchantments are quite possible. Although naya would be easier on the mana, are the 2 colors im missing out on worth it?

Also, has anyone had experience with a enchantment/planeswalker hybrid list? Thanks in advance for the help!

Didn't read the whole thread so sorry if this is no longer relevant, but I've always found Bant enchantress to be much stronger than naya.

Bant gives you access to cards like Bruna, Light of Alabaster, Sovereigns of Lost Alara, Steel of the Godhead, Righteous Authority, etc.

It also gives you the flexibility of counterspells, and access to powerful enchantments such as Future Sight, Mind Unbound, Mind Over Matter, to name a few of the most powerful.

Red gives you haste....and a few good enchantments.

I think Blue is the best tertiary color, unless your going 5c, but even then I would run it primarily as Bant with Haste and Necropotence.

EDIT: Unless your building Uril with an enchantress theme, which is certainly strong in it's own right.

The only one I was really wanting to see was the Golgari champion. As much as I love Jarad, I was interested in seeing if there was a possible new general I could run.

That said, he's completely playable under the right circumstances. Is he what I wanted? Not even close. He plays with the graveyard, but I don't like the Scavenge ability to begin with, so I doubt I'll find myself even running him in my Jarad deck. Ah well.

He'll almost certainly see play in standard, modern, and perhaps even vintage/legacy dredge decks.

He works nicely with the new plant skeleton thing as well. Lotleth Troll, Strangleroot Geist, Dreg Mangler, Deathrite Shaman are all very powerful in 60/4 formats.

The guild also received Abrupt Decay, another 60/4 staple.

I think the Golgari Champion may be a bit pricy as a result.

After seeing that new Golgari plant thing that basically dredges to bring itself back to play, I'm thinking a Golgari dredge deck for 1v1 would be very fun. The Golgari's synergy with the graveyard (going back to cards with dredge and everyone's favorite fatty) will make for some very explosive starts. The new Golgari Champion will make a fine general for such a deck methinks. Smile

Yeah, I mean didn't just mill. Something like being able to cast certain milled cards or something, that would have been cool.

It would have been Lazav, basically.

Mill would have been fine, if it was at all interesting. This guy is just boring and terrible in EDH.

I'm somewhat disappointed that the only thing Dimir received was mill cards in this set.

I still can't bring myself to play a mill deck even after I picked up a Consuming Aberration, Lazav, and the new Mind Funeral with an x whose name escapes me right now.

I am really liking the Golgari for constructed playable, at the very least.

Varolz is good, but will probably be expensive....he seems like he would be pretty good in constructed formats as well.

Edit: Has anyone else noticed pretty much every non-legendary creature spoiled so far is ETB: do something (It's 8 to 1 so far)? Can we marginalize instants and sorceries any more, please?

    No.

Underworld Dreams and Megrim. Phyrexian Tyranny is nice too but doesn't work for rakdos.

Something to be aware of if you ever decide to go Grixis instead.

    Quote from SuperSonik
@OP I hate CIPT lands too but there is a catch: the financials. CIPT lands are pretty lame in game like Jivan said but if you have 100 bucks to improve your deck you are MUCH better off buying spells that will have a heavy impact on the game than buying a couple fetches or shocks. In this case you're OK to run a few CIPT lands (certainly not 12 of them though). An underrated fixer at budget level deck construction are the painlands. In your case Yavimaya Coast and such. The 1 life is not that big a deal when you have 40 of it to go around and you will mostly use these lands for colorless production anyway as the game goes on. Play them.

An analogy: no point buying the oil before you buy the engine. Once you have the power spell game you want, you can then speed things up with lands.

I don't entirely agree with this line of thought.

If you have a deck with great expensive staples but run lands like Elfhame Palace x 20, there is going to be plenty of games where your land base is going to screw you over.

Many effects of game ending spells can be found in less expensive spells at lower rarities, although there not as efficiently costed or as powerful.

Many game finishing creatures are cheap, and powerful creatures seem to be the norm these days, so they shouldn't be hard to come by.

But investing in, at the very least, shocks and perhaps some budget fetchers (Krosan Verge is another CIPT land I think is worth playing btw) is never a bad idea if you plan on playing EDH to any great extent.

Even if you swap them between decks, I've always placed relevant lands high on my priority list of acquiring.

I own all of the shocks and 1 fetch, yet don't own a Tooth and Nail or Doubling Season. I run Green Sun's Zenith and Parallel Lives. They aren't as powerful, but they mimic powerful spells enough to still prove quite good in there own rights.

    I've used it.

It gets more efficient the longer it lasts....or starts to equal 1 life per card drawn after the third turn if I remember correctly, then it starts to get better.

    I've always liked it.

EDIT: Oh didn't open the spoiler. Smile

Your right, my bad. A case of rtfc on my part.

Ok, Sub Optimal everywhere else works for me.

This will never happen. The demon is good in Kaalia and sub-optimal everywhere else.

A flying creature that does 39 damage (in the form of life loss I know) if unblocked isn't exactly sub-optimal in an mp format where someone is almost always open.

    He's decent I'd say.
