Her gauntlet may not be so bad in the right deck. Honestly I could see a 50/50 value creature and sorcery deck in which she has some way to protect herself. The turn you lay that down and + her, you are dealing 3 damage to a creature and the player. That is a pretty good effect that will win you the game shortly if you can continue to do it.

Of course, it's a little janky. The planeswalker needed another card to be good?

new Chandra is ok, but she's not a really for RDW or Burn. She seems like she'd fit better in Mono Red Stompy or in a U/R EDH deck, probably Melek

You know something is wrong with the card when the best deck she can fit into aren't even the colors that her color archetype defines.

Clearly Wizards, and magic fans, both have VERY different ideas of what a "Massive Screw Up" is. It makes me wonder, if Chandra will see fringe play. I mean her abilities are not very diverse. They seem to call for a specific deck, one with good burn spells. But the first ability implies a creature based deck to protect her I am guessing. While this is 'diverse' by nature, the 2 deck ideas clash, and don't compliment each other. I can easily be wrong of course, much like we all can, but maybe some will understand what I am trying to convey.

If she sees fringe play, I doubt Chandra will ever have a decent card. A thief? Act of treason could have been a +1 then. Who knows. Wizards does not plan this out as we know. In the past year or so, many format warping cards have slipped through. Now I love these cards, but let us be realistic. If you are going to hype a card, and BROKEN cards clearly exist and have been made, why not make the hype card the powerful one like you hype it up to be? VoR, Snappy, Geist of St. Traft, are all format defining cards. Liliana and Jace seem to be the only colors that have power creep issues with White slipping in sometimes. But I don't think recently with the exception of Bonfire, has a good red card come along that changes the game. Green has done it's share of power creep in the past. Scattered thoughts, but my point is that rarely is the hyped card now, the broken card or face of the set. I think VoR changed more decks than Ral Zarek. What is wrong with this picture?

Also, design is still boring, irregardless of the power level of the card.

I do say sir you made a lot of valid points that I agree with. Flavor wise, I am dissapointed in Chandra. For one, EVERYBODY or at least what I call everybody (A large majority of the speculation forum) thought she would be 3 Costed to be a Ral Zarek Ally. Instead, she is at 4, and I don't really see her uses yet. I was really expecting even a 1 damage Sulfuric Vortex of some sort. But in comparison to other walkers, shes about as exciting as Liliana of the Dark Realms...Okay, she is slightly more exciting than that but you get my point.

Ral Zarek is seeing play, but he has very useful abilities and hits the flavor jackpot imo. He was the face of the ravnica block. You'd think Chandra would have something... even like a -3: You get an emblem with creatures you control have Haste.

Until then, I am waiting patiently for somebody to break new Chandra. Please exploit her. Please.

I see nobody cares to talk about chandra anymore. This whole day never made it past page 28 in the thread haha. Tired of her already? Wink

It's not really a demand, but new chandra is sort of a let down. Massive Hype, and I don't see any obvious combo. So I am asking any forum member to write out and convince me why she is good. I am not convinced she is bad, I just want to be shown her strong points plz Smile

    BUgs Bugs Bugs.

Let me tell you this. 2014 for Xbox has all the bugs in the world ALREADY. let me start off.

I cast unsummon, he counters it with a cancel, I twincast his cancel to counter his cancel because he is swinging with an enchanted eldrazi conscripted creature and I don't want to lose. The game freezes and my ally tells me I messed up, but I purposely highlighted his cancel to make sure I was doing the right card, so 2 minutes later after the game is done being frozen his card is on the field tapped still. Bad Bug

Next, when doing sealed play, sometimes when you edit a deck, and you go to a match to pick your sealed deck, even though you highlight a deck to use, it may just switch you back to the other deck you were previously editing without your approval and after you hit the READY button, you could be stuck in a bad matchup with the wrong deck by no fault of your own. How do you fix this? Close the game, and re-open. Its still dumb, but it's better than 2013 freezing on your way into a match. How did this get past testing? Was the game even tested on xbox? I haven't even been playing for 2 days.

These are clearly massive bugs, and some of the in-game bugs were in my second match playing the game.

A side note complaint. They put Door to Nothingness in sealed. This is a complete rip off and the most jank you could have. SO to mimic sealed perfectly, they even give you useless cards.

I am surprised she was not revealed today with the launching of DotP. Hope we see her soon. No blue slivers. Well, can easily say ill be picking up singles for this set, but what else is new with core sets. Rolleyes

Still waiting to be blown away by New Chandra. Quite Frankly, the reprinting of this Liliana...well just reading her she seems very bad. I am not even sure I would have her in a casual kitchen table deck. Memory Adept I hope has New art. Ajani...I guess we saw that coming. Garruk is still pretty good making DAT 3/3 beast. Well I can really say m14 looks like a singles set for me...Even the mythics seem underwhelming, in comparison to something like a Thundermaw Hellkite.

Can somebody please tell me what they think the sleeper card of the set is so far?
    If Chandra is bad....well Effff.

...did you read The Secretist? Because that was our block novel, and it answers that question pretty clearly.

Well where Can I find this novel plzz. I want to read Smile
Only one novel for the whole block?

The novels IMO were pretty trash.

Back on topic, the original Ravnica novels were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I've read and reread them, and the story was really captured in the block (unlike this new block, where what is "captured" is no more than a bland "multicolor matters" overall theme).

Seriously. What is up with the zero flavor in the new ravnica block? Dragons Maze? What did they find again? I remember when speculation was an Artifact hidden below the surface. And of course, nothing like that exists. And something like Dragons Maze could have been the heme for the whole Block. Why wasn't it?!

The ability to target hexproof creatures might also make sense given the whole fire, heat, and bright light thing.

A damage ability that can hit any creature. I like this a LOT. If she had this, she would be played in modern if her cost was good. If it got past shroud which is unlikley, WOW, ultimate pyromancer chandra would be.

So, the biggest issue with this set is availability and price.
Of course all the Re-sellers and collectors that see magic as their 401K will love this.
Clearly those 2 are based off each other though, and really this set is a huge letdown. It even says that the suggest retail price for a pack is $6.99 on the announcement on the official site for this set. The price these are online is double this now. This is ridiculous. It's like charging an arm and a leg for a mini lottery because you may win a high numbered car. And I have won from the lottery a good amount before. It wouldn't justify an increase in ticket prices though just because you could potentially win a few thousand. Unless people are pulling out foil cryptics in every box, all and all this did not assure new players could get into modern for a reasonable price, which is what the sets goal was.

So for almost 30$ somebody can afford...2 packs? Wow. Seeing this all play out, I wonder how Wizards thought it would go different with only Lgs getting it. Those stores are not common, and those stores have a monopoly on the product because big retailers can't sell it for the lower suggested price, undercutting LGS. So now, LGS can put a 100% markup in the wizards suggested price? Cool. Thanks.

Sure is taking awhile for our planeswalkers to be spoiled. I myself would love Jace, Memory Adept with different art. Really the hooded Jace is what made him so mysterious. Jace from RtR was good, I am still unsure about his flavor though, he is more versatile though. I really cannot wait to see new Chandra. I hope she is not a let down. This thread is a bit inactive now though seeing as how we are all just waiting for her any day now x)

    1RRChandra, _____________
    Starting Loyalty 3
[+1] Deal 2 damage to each player. (Could be more realistic at 1dmg?)
[-2] Deal 4 damage to target creature (Pseudo Mizzium Mortars?)
[-6] or -7? Deal 5 damage to target player and 5 damage to each creature that player controls. Wabam Hellfire to all the tokens and hexproof.

Also just saw her one of her abilities is outside Red. Well For design sake I hope it's full of flavor, that is the most important thing in magic after all is said and done. Really Interested now.

It's somewhat realistic if they aren't hoping to make a name for Red Walkers off the kitchen table. Eitherway, Liliana was ridiculously popular, proving 3 mana walkers can BE something close to broken. She's an expensive lass. Chandra needs some love now. I love Red, I love Blue. So lets have Jace, Chandra, and Ral all on the same side. That's a deck I can get behind.
