Not gonna lie, I kinda wanna watch this.

Is there a reason that you don't want to use more normal-looking decks, OP? One of the things people regularly rag on the YGO series for is being almost totally divorced from the rules of the actual game - why not make the decks closer to proper decks so the matches can resemble proper games? There still plenty of room for personalisation, especially if you're in favour of including combos.

    This.

The show was so unrealistic and childish, and then when I went to play a game I couldn't even play in the same manner as I was shown?

It's just confusing, especially if you're younger, to have the actual game played one way then when you go to play with the cards you have to memorize an entirely different set of rules and interactions.

"Wait, so you mean I can't do anything remotely useful with this Kuriboh?"

If you're going to make a Magic Television show, keep it on track with the game. If you want EDH styled decks- MAKE THEM EDH STYLE DECKS.

Otherwise, pick a format you prefer either Modern or Legacy, and drive them that way- adhering to some rules.

You could even start with them playing a specific designated format, such as Modern, and come across new rivals playing Legacy- and have a turning point where that decks power level needs to be increased to perform on par with them.

    -2 Gyre Sage
    -2 Cloudshift
    -1 Farseek
    -3 Loxodon Smiter (to SB)

    +1 Avacyn's Pilgrim
    +1 Thragtusk
    +1 Garruk, Primal Hunter
    +1 Armada Wurm
    +2 Simic Charm
    +2 Azorius Charm

Least this is what I'd do, I love all the BANT charms.

I'm running RUG Biomancer with Huntmaster's and Thundermaw's over Armada Wurm and Restoration Angel though.

Huntmaster is so gravy with Biomancer, same with Maw.

EDIT: Noticed a previous post mentioning Garruk, Primal Hunter and yeah, definitely a beast in this deck. 1-2 of at most due to the mana requirements of course.

Oracle text says it is a "Creature - Goblin"

This creature is in fact a Goblin.

Boros Charm, nothing says useful like 4 to the face, nevermind about that Supreme Verdict, or pretend I played a paladin.

Followed by either Orzhov Charm or Simic Charm.

Dimir is useful, but also limited in it's uses.

    Forget about Gruul.

I love this card. Based on its flavor, and its great design... but it doesn't have much else going for it.

I'm pretty sure it won't see constructed play and I doubt there's even a half-decent kitchen table deck out there that can utilize this and not walk out disappointed half the time.

It's easy to evaluate this card wrong by considering the best possible result: you get a bomb and blow the opponent out of the water.

Truth is the most typical result is that you either get a land -- but what is that extra land going to do to you anyway if your plan is to cast really expensive stuff with this for free? -- or you hit a mana dork, or removal, or whatever cheaper spells you have in your deck.

Or are you going to run with a deck with nothing but land, these and really expensive bombs? Are you going to keep mulliganing until you get one of these in your opening hand then?

The most typical result of using this is an overcosted effect. The Timmy-minded Johnny-players will certainly rejoice for the times they'll pull their Christmasland combo off, of course. This is a fun card, but that is all.

Actually, my JohnnySpike feels that a RUG deck running this can finally cast the high cost Gruul creatures, and utilize Bloodrush to it's fullest, along with Domri Rade. So, yes, essentially a deck that will have no spells aside from this. Yet wont have to fold given a hand that doesn't have this. Though, this is merely a high hope that I have. More support for this card is still required. Plus, I need to not be relying on a T4 boss with a 2/5 Chance of hitting land.

I'm definitely prepared to use this. T1 against UW postboard tempo and I no longer care about Geist. That odd end Invisichantment deck, no dice. ****, I've got removal for everything, now I can use it. Without having to go out of my way to throw in a specific hoser for GosT which wouldn't affect a buffed Invisichantment. Now it's just the usual, I'll searing spear that, or I'll oblivion ring this.

In other words, yes, Wall of Swords from 8th edition should be read as "Defender, Flying."

Champion of the Parish should be slapped in here, it's more effective than Boros Elite with potential to get larger, plus it's a target for removal.

Silverblade Paladin > Frontline Medic, Medic in the sideboard.

Spells need a little more variety in my opinion.
    2x Pillar
    4x Searing Spear
    2x Aurelia's Fury
    1x Devil's Play
    2-3x Oblivion Ring

Gather on turn two could be replaced with Ash Zealot, or something.

Thundermaw Hellkite would be a more effective finisher than Moonveil or Aurelia as well lowering your mana curve and coming out the turn after your Firemane Avenger would allow for a solid 8 in the air with a Helix going wherever you want.

The versatility of this card, primarily the fact that it's an instant, will make it a key card in coming decks. I cannot wait to incorporate this into my Naya deck.

Since I haven't seen any similar mentionings...

    T1: Champion of the Parish
T2: Burning-Tree Emissary, Lightning Mauler, attack for 7
    T3: Cloudshift > Burning-Tree Emissary, Hellrider, swing for 15

    /gg

Using this card as a mana source by flickering it, silly, yet brilliant. Play Hellrider, Thundermaw, etc. an extra turn sooner. First turn could be dorks to improve ramp. Rancors lay extra beats. I just see Gruul/Naya decks dropping their entire hand faster than the opponent can Supreme Verdict.

I'm glad you enjoyed playing for your first time! I tend to find new players get frustrated a little too easily, as if they expected the game to be easy. That's unfortunate though, perhaps it falls on you to sucker everyone into playing... then they will have no choice but to open courses nearby. ^^,

Oh yes, carry around a shovel in the vehicle, dig yourself out of each place you park your car. Except it's not that bad at the moment.

    Thanks for the greeting.

Frisbee golf, hiking, baseball, and camping just to name the most common reasons I'd be outside- and for the time being I can add shoveling snow to that list.

Hello, the names Patrick. Been playing Magic on and off for the past eleven and a half years, and lately I've been looking for another way to stay involved with whats going on in the game as well as a community that I could trade with and with that I found myself here on MTGS. It just took me a while to get around to actually making a post.

For the most part I play casual with a group of friends every Monday night, we call our gathering "Monday Night Magic" or "MNM", and roughly once a week to every other week a few of us that are more competitive hit up our local card shop (Level Up Games) for a tournament.

Aside from that I spend my time working, keeping active outdoors, and playing magic for absurd periods of time. x)

    Cheers,
    pcmayne
