Just won another GPT with the same list I posted a while back.
3 rounds with cut to top 4. 2-0 vs UWR Control. 2-1 vs Affinity. Drew into top 4. 2-0 vs UWR Control In the semis. Then split the credit in the finals and got it 2-0 vs UR Delver.
What's the general consensus between Volcanic Fallout, Pyroclasm, and Anger of the Gods in the sideboard? I feel that 2 clasms and 1 fallout may be the sweet spot right now, with an Engineered Explosives to compliment it, but I'm not exactly sure. Thoughts?
Thats almost what i run except i prefer an anger over the fallout. dealing an extra damage and being able to exile is big in some matchups. Pod, zoo, and affinity have issues with it. Being uncounterable is nice but i feel that at 2 mana, pyroclasm does a nice job of sweeping up delvers and such, you just have to wait for the opportune time to cast it.
Not a fan of 2 basic islands and 3 breeding pools, should be the other way around.
Pyroclasm is fine vs delver. It loses its effectiveness when they cast probe. If you think your opponent is not brain dead, you should cast the pyroclasm right after they probe you to take less damage, even if it's only a 1 for 1.
Courser is great vs delver. it gains life and blocks for days. as well as gets lands off the top of your deck and with so many shuffle effects you can control what you draw. i do not run telling time or serum visions anymore as they are bad against too many decks. i'd rather have counter magic and removal. DTT feels like scapeshifts 5-7. against delver i cut the remands, cryptics and digs. i run 2 pyroclasm in the sideboard. maindeck they are dead against too many things whereas courser still generates card advantage.
Played in a 20 man Grand Prix Trial today. Fairly competitive crowd.
Round 1: 2-1 against UR Delver
Round 2: 2-1 against Scapeshift
Round 3: 2-0 against Abzan Midrange
Rounds 4 and 5: two ID's into top 8. I am 1st.
Quarterfinals: 2-0 against UR Delver
Semifinals: 2-0 against UR Delver
Finals: 2-0 against Scapeshift
Here is my list, I like it a lot and wouldn't change a thing:
I was wondering what everyone thought of this list. I took the RG Elspeth list from the block pro tour, the current g/r monsters list, and some brews ive seen pros post to come up with this. Any suggestions? mana base look good? Are course and rabblemaster together okay? oh and should it run stoke or polukranos?
I got 9th at the premiere iq in st louis. Got screwed on breakers due to my early draw and loss. Was the only 16 pointer that didnt make the cut. Here is my list and what i played against:
Round 1: 1-1-1 RUG Scapeshift
Round 2: 1-2 UW Control
Round 3: 2-1 Junk Midrange
Round 4: 2-0 Birthing Pod
Round 5: 2-1 UR Twin
Round 6: 2-1 B/G Midrange
Round 7: 2-0 Birthing Pod
All of my matchups were very good. Twin and the mirror is 50/50 but the rest were more like 70/30. Lost in round 2 due to a mulligan to 4 game 1. Then he had leyline game 3.
with having search for tomorrow and tribe elder to go get basic islands, i could see people playing foothills over misty. would i do it? no. i still think misty is the best.
do you guys think that the upcoming allies fetches reprint will have an impact on scapeshift in terms of our stocklist or even the meta??
with 4 Cryptics you want your fetches to be able to grab Blue. I doubt you'd use Wooded Foothills in the Cryptic versions. Maybe in the Primeval Titan versions. I can't see it changing the meta more beyond making Blue Moon and Burn slightly worse.
Wooded foothills can still go get steam vents or breeding pool...
I was wondering if anyone could write up a detailed sideboard guide for some popular matchups. This is jun park's list, and until i get better, its the list ill be playing. So far adam yurchick has written this:
Affinity
-4 Remand
-1 Telling Time
+2 Anger of the Gods
+2 Ancient Grudge
+1 Engineered Explosives
So one of the shops I go to is having a "pro tour mirror" where we watch the live stream and play block, draft, block and it sounds really fun. I play control in standard and already have most of the cards. I had a few questions though and since mtgo is where block is mostly played, and since journey lists havent come back from mtgogoldfish yet, i've not seen lists with the new cards. Here is my deck:
Do I want 2 Banishing Light and 4 Gild or 2 Gild and 4 Banishing Light? Light seems more powerful but gild lets me ramp into Elspeth a turn sooner. Also, there is much more enchantment removal out there but I know my curve has lots of 3cmc cards already. This makes me think I dont want Read the Bones. I have Divination and 12 scry lands. I dont think I want mana confluence.
