The un sets always have some physical aspect that couldn't be duplicated online, like what someone is wearing or what cards are touching or even having to say something out loud
Yeah... Collector Corner's Wednesday night edh is pretty bad... (or at least the couple times I have shown up.) I have convinced over half the standard crowd to play edh so those of us that do horribad in the first couple rounds of FNM typically drop and play edh for the remained of the night. So I have gotten that odd scene going.
I've been up to Alternate Worlds several times for FNMs, and I really like the people who run the store. Unfortunately, the player base is too young for my tastes, so I stopped going there for Standard.
Since you guys start at 7, I can probably make the drive from Annapolis after work (I get off at 5) in an up coming week.
I run another league at Alternate Worlds every other sunday. We're about halfway through right now, although if you have some good games it would be possible to catch up on points. Games are from 12-5ish. The points are different, but are chosen from the same list. Player base for league is mostly 20s and 30s, just like at Titan.
Yes, I was wondering about collusion. I played in a points league once and two players managed to each get an infinite amount of points because neither would scoop and they had ways of making it so the game would never end. They couldn't be disqualified because we had no rule to disqualify players from colluding in this manner.
There isn't anything currently in place to deal with that scenario since it hasn't come up. The closest we have are the 2 stalling dookies, and if it comes to my attention that this is happening I'll end the game. I don't really see it being an issue with the group we have honestly. We're there to have fun, not just win points, so it's not as cutthroat as it could be.
In an effort to keep things simple, points do not take special circumstances into account (like mana rocks and chasm). I'm trying to keep thing relatively similar between the two leagues, but some things need to be tuned differently, like dookies and point values. I'm willing to allow a little bit more farming on the longer league, but awarded more points per win on the shorter league for example. It's a balance, and I'm still working that out a little on the Titan league. I'm open to input, but there will remain a certain amount of farming allowed. Also if anyone has suggestions for dookies or points to add to the rotation, let me know. I pulled my list from 6 different leagues I found posted online, and use the same master list for both leagues.
I print the rules on a score sheet with copies for the players in each game to look at while playing. There's a balance I'm still working on for this league since each one is so short. The one I run at Alternate Worlds is 3 months long, whereas this one at Titan is about 1 month at a time. As for the exceedingly long list of points, they rotate every month, with only about 10 in use per month. This one I'm still trying to get the kinks worked out for a balance between playing to win prizes versus just playing for fun. While the main goal is to have fun, I think part of the fun is seeing the interesting plays people make that they normally wouldn't just to grab an extra point or two.
The new slivers are crap. I would even be willing to accept the new humanoid 'adaptation' if they hadn't ruined the sliver sharing ability by making it just like every other tribe. I was really looking forward to the day they came back, but i really don't like the new set up.
