I do really like the idea of Blazing Archon and would love to hear how it tests. Pascal Maynard on channel fireball posted a UWR Spreading Seas deck, that contained 4 spreading seas and 3 tec edges. He plays against Eldrazi in match 3 and with the land hate he is able to manhandle the match. I'm not saying we must to do the same, but could the inclusion of spreading seas in the main be warranted in the Eldrazi meta? It would also help against RG Tron.

Match can be viewed here: http://www.channelfireball.com/videos/channel-pmayne-modern-uwr-spreading-seas/

Also, it seems like mana leak may be worth considering as an inclusion in this faster metagame.

Monastery Mentor provides some pressure early and is something decks have to deal with, otherwise they could lose. I like the idea of using it against Tron but pyroclasm is a thing to watch out for. I bring up Monastery Mentor because it seems like a fast way to close out the game if left unchecked. We also have a critical mass of non creature spells, which is another point in its favor. I play the Emrakul build and am interested in brainstorming and experimenting with other faster win cons.

Eldrazi is a huge problem but it is a problem for all decks, even infect and affinity. Once a silver bullet has been identified for that deck, hopefully we'll have more game against them.

In another line of thought, has anyone tried bringing monastery mentor out of the board, once all or most removal has been sided out? Seems like it could work.

And lastly, as I always say during spoilers, here's hoping we get new tech in shadows over Innistrad!

Hey guys, new to this thread. I am a big fan of UW in modern and was considering building this deck or the UW tron deck. I was wondering what advantages this deck offers over UW Tron, and perhaps what UW Tron has over UW Control? Any candid answers would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I haven't been able to play in about a month now, but I am wondering for those who are playing this deck, what does the current meta look like? Do we need to alter the deck to compete in the current meta? A quicker end game than Emrakul? 4 main board timely reinforcements? This deck is flexible and we should be able to tailor it to be competitive in any meta.

I agree SicklyFish. The matchup is a nightmare and Bx Eldrazi seems like the real deal, to only get stronger with Thought-Knot Seer and Reality Smasher. There are several things that we could do to improve the matchup but I'm not sure if there are any hosers for the deck yet. We could (in no particular order):

    1. Maindeck Leyline of Sanctity. This blanks all of their discard and TKS, and half of their Relic of Progenitus. Could also be a nice surprise against some other decks.
    2. Disdainful Stroke out of the board. Efficient permission for all their fatties, also has relevance against Tron.
    3. Spreading Seas their Eye of Ugin, which is a powerhouse for them. It slows them down and draws us a card, but only delays.
    4. Possibly Painter's Servant. Extremely narrow and fragile though.

From what I've been reading and seeing. The decks that do well against Eldrazi are the proactive decks, like Burn, Affinity, and Infect. Its hard for us as a reactive deck to wait for Emrakul or Mindslaver while they deploy their Eldrazi and stomp.

Any other ideas or input from anyone is welcome!

I still think Emrakul is vital to our deck and the new Ulamog would be a complimentary piece that opponents would have to deal with in the mid-game. Path to Exile is one of the most played cards in modern and takes care of Ulamog, unlike Emrakul which just ends the game, as we all know. The shuffling effect of Emrakul is also vital to the sphinx-emrakul-gifts-X package. I can't count how many games I've won by stringing gifts with this process.

Karn is always interesting to consider for inclusion but how different is Karn from Newlamog in our deck? Functionally, we cast them with the intent to exile something and hopefully have future turns with these cards. Obviously there are pros and cons of both to consider, like mana cost, being able to unburial rites Newlamog, and Karn being harder for opponents to deal with as a planeswalker. Which of the two would you prefer if both were being considered for one spot?

Also as a side, the Gerry Thompson deck list and games are now public. Not sure about other participants on this forum, but I previously was unable to view it because it was premium content. Here is the link: http://www.starcitygames.com/article/31992_Video-UW-Tron-In-Modern.html

I'm wondering if the new card, Thought-Knot Seer, could have a place in our deck in the new meta? I put the card on the table for discussion just because I am intrigued by its hand disruption ability and would be interested to hear what other gifts players think!

You get Iona out and they cannot cast the chosen color. If Kozilek comes out, you also need to have the exact converted mana cost card to counter the same converted mana cost card they play or they'll still combo out. We do have a healthy range of mana costs in the deck, but Kozliek may not be reliable enough to stop a combo, even with the card draw.

@OikeaHetki who asked about Karn a few posts ago. Karn is powerful, but the real power of Karn is casting him early, like how RG Tron does. The primer discusses Karn in more detail. But happy to discuss Karn further if you still have questions after reading the primer.

As for, Warping Wail, I agree with Da_Head's assessment. The card might be a solid SB card for us against many match ups ands its nice that we have plenty of colorless mana to cast it with. It think it would also be even worth casting it to counter Thoughtseize to protect a Gifts or Ugin. I'm sure a lot of us will test this out and talk about our findings on this site down the road.

Lastly, Serenade mentioned Matter Reshaper which is an intriguing card to me. I'm not sure if it fits our deck but it does remind me of how Kitchen Finks works in UW Control. You can play it early for a bit of pressure or to block (3 power is sweet), and like Finks, we get some value if it dies. UW Tron is quite different from UW Control but I think this creature is worth testing in some amount. Its not highly likely, but this could be the card that gives us a bit more game early.

I've been toying with Realm Razer as a reanimation target against RG Tron. One can run away with some games, especially if you keep lands in your hand for post combo, and can manage to counter the right stuff, like pyroclasm.

Here's also hoping we see some new tech for this deck as OGW spoilers continue!

By Gerry Thompson list, do you mean the list under the "Going Forward" section of this link? :

If you are willing, I think recordings are helpful. They can help other players learn and its nice to see Gifts Tron games. I also think the deck is just not that well known or it would have a bigger place in the meta. Videos are a good vehicle to get the deck out there.

Definitely a good idea. This deck needs a renewed spark for discussion.
