if the creature was tapped prior to removal, does it come back in untapped position or tapped? And summoning sickness?

Please use card tags in future posts. The Forum Guidelines explain how to do that. -Carsten

  • posted a message on General rule of thumb: how many copy to run?
What's the general rule of thumb?

    What cards should be 4-of, 3-of, 2-of, and 1-of?

I heard that if you want to draw the card in the opening hand, and want to draw multiple copy, you should play 4-of.

3-of cards that you want to draw at LEAST once.

2-of if you want to draw it no more than once, but consistently getting it.

1-of cards that you dont' want in your opening hand, and not early-mid game. used as a finisher?

    Is this correct?

This couldn't be farther from the truth. Yugioh's banned list is the size of Mt McKinley.

    The Yugioh Chain

    1. Make busted card
    2. Ban busted card

That's just one of the MANY reasons why I DON'T play that excuse for a game.

Cards regularly gets banned/unbanned for competitive environment. Functionally speaking, MTG's standard bans about 90% of the entire Magic the Gathering available card pool. Modern bans about i guess 70%? and Legacy isn't short on its ban list either.

Obviously, Black Lotus and the power 9 should be eternally banned, and that's what happens with some YGO cards too.

That's why I think modern is a going to be a great format.

Also, not to sound lke a YGO fan-boy, I really do like Wizard have a no-reprint policy. Although it's a bit different with YGO who reprints the same card in lower rarity...

But i don't know if WoTC going to keep that up as I remember Serra Angel is uncommon now? It used to be a rare :/

Doesn't the fact that mythics (typically) retain the largest portion a of a set's prices end up being a good thing? Mythics end up making rares be cheaper. Since there only around 10 -15 mythics per set, strategies not revolving on those handful of cards makes decks overall much cheaper. Even decks that *do* rely on a mythic or two still wont typically reach crazy overall prices.

I think complaining about that *have* to have a playset of every card, including, mythics is a bit absurd.

I think it does overall more good than damage.

The problem is staple rares are priced relatively the same.... like Snapcaster Mage would of been 20-25 without mythic rare anyways.

Mythic Rare just took standard singles' value to a new height...

  • posted a message on Why do Magic Cards Use Contractions?
Contractions make your writing more accessible to the user. Research shows that that they also enhance readability (Danielson and Larosa, 1989).

"Write as you talk" is a common rule of writing readably, and the best way to do that is to use contractions. People are accustomed to hearing contractions in spoken English, and using them in your writing helps people relate to your document."

    This.

can't is much more distinct than cannot when the text-box is filled up with words. some cards' text is already small as it is, it's very easy to over-look cannot. But the can't with apostrophe is much more distinct and easy to pick out.

although I do often say "cannot" out loud when explaining a card, and/or to make an emphasize.

Also, Players who isn't fluent in native English does NOT always make the best distinction between can and can't when they are speaking.

I really hated rotation... and with modern now... i think MTG got a chance...

That's the only reason why i played yu-gi-oh when i quit magic... it didn't have a rotation, all your cards maintained value.

YGO is mostly revovled around creature themes, like faerie decks, elemental decks, etc. in YGO, without rotation, your faerie deck can still be played 2 years down the road, althoughs tronger stuff may come around, but also you could upgrade your faerie deck with some new spells and tricks, and konami releases some extra to help old archtypes too..

But WoTC don't do that... which disappoints me greatly. While YGO's secondary market isn't pretty, but Bitterblossom, dropping from 30 to 10 is just as bad... and other mid range rares in standard suddenly become dollar-bin bargains.

I hope Modern will bring that aspect of YGO i liked to MTG. Oh, and I also hate the new card interface... the old interface kept it distinct and you know it's a MAGIC card the instant you look at it... now the interface is "streamlined" and made it look like other modern tcg :/ and it doesn't fit very well with the "wizards and spells" theme at all..

    Quote from kennismartin
I buy locally on craigslist. Usually pay around 5 dollars per thousand common/uncommons. You can typically get your money back from them with pricier common/uncommon stuff like Innocent Blood, Brainstorm, and occasional Wasteland. Sometimes you can run into Tops, Scepters.

I tend to gauge the amount of knowledge someone has about their cards to be a good indicator of what they might have/know they have. If someone played a lot in Mirrodin for instance but never touched their cards again, you can expect they might have something to justify buying their cards.

    .... I can't fathom you'll ever find a Wasteland in a lot >_> Those things are like $30 lol.
