Thoughtseizes come to mind. Reveler is a hit or miss in all honesty as it still cost the same amount of turns as a regular tasigur. While actual tasigur can come down on the potential t2, and swing games in your favor.

Thinking of reveler as a regular drop tasigur is fine, but try out torrential gearhulk over Jace. I think it does what you need, has the hefty body, and the only thing it doesn't do is loot. So it's a net gain/loss.

Hey, i just made a grixis control deck because of the new MM reprints.

It is a pretty staple list, would like to know for the tron decks. Can we just play blood moon and curve our mana base towards it? Fulminator mage + surgical combo to against tron is pretty mediocre because its less than 5 cards for that match up. I also didn't like AV as much as thought scour when tasigur are key cards vs. the mirror and most of our match ups to block out pushes.

I also love the 1 of torrential gearhulk because its a massive body and recurring cryptic or kolag command again is very nice. Also, what is the best ratio of thoughtseize to inquisition? Should i just prepare knowing that "x" tournament is most death shadow, so i should play 4 inquisition 2 thought seize, then SB 2?

Boros charm is by far the best answer to sweepers. Two very relevant modes, both likely to be useful in the same match.

I think at least one should be in the maindeck of all Bushwhacker builds, since we are so fragile.

You don't need boros charm in the revolt build thanks to spirit. The only mode you want to use boros charm at that point is 4 burn damage. Which can be relevant.

Everyone should be playing thrun along with 1-2 birds to get the stormbreath out faster. Thrun is an out to fatal push, has regenerate to block tasigurs and huge monstrosities. It is also a nice threat to kill karn, etc. Elspeth is also very good right now imo, making tokens vs. control decks, being an aggressive 4 drop to push dmg in revolt zoo.

Death's shadow will still be a factor, where are you getting your facts from?

The deck itself is still viable for the format.it isn't dead by any means.

I put hand on some brews and made a simple bant list, I think tamiyo is really powerful, especially if you factor in oath of ajani. I just think oath of ajani putting counters on each creature is the same value as wasting mana on t5-6 for gavony proc.

You get a tempo gain from rallier, tamiyo draws you gas, Gideon is just good. You can SB spell quellers because you are bant, have access to soft counters with denial. Going to test this list for a while.

Haven't been in this thread in a while, saw the new additions and seems awesome.
Rallier is essentially never a dead card and gets back value, to not play coco seems awkward. It depends how many control decks there are. Cutting knights also seems eh? But cutting them for ralliers makes more sense.

Ill put my list in so far with the upcoming changes

To not play oath of ajani seems weird to me,it is an anthem effect which helps you pay for gideon's cost if you are tight on mana. It turns your birds and noble hierarchs into actual threats. (2/3 flyer is a big deal!) and it it is a legendary enchantment! which is a + for a tarmogoyf. In all honesty, greenwheel liberator is also VERY good. A 4/3 on T2 is nothing to scoff at even if it can get bolted or path, which doesn't matter if it gets to swing in. 4/3 on t2-t3 is very potent and people are overlooking this card when cards like scooze is good, but a 4/3 is just better.

People opt for the more optimal way to play with utility, which isn't wrong. But in the sense of creativity, i believe this form of the deck can do very well AND become very strong.

This takes advantage of revolt with semi above avg curve creatures, you get some reach with chandra, pyromaster + gideon. Gideon emblem + Oath of Ajani is very devasting anthem effects and gives you a larger reach. You can always gideon + oath to make gideon an everlarging creature to punch even the largest toughness.

This is what i have learned looking at the new cards and reading them, taking advantage of every single detail possible can make or break games. So far, Bolt has been underwhelming rather than overwhelming. It does still give you the same removal/reach. But heroic intervention going in for oaths/bolt is possibly better.

I don't think tron will live at all when aggro decks that are still alive prey upon it, including zooicide.

Tier 3 decks shouldn't be included as a way to justify bannings when the overall harm they focused on was t2-t3 kills, which they said that modern should be a t4 format. Probe was the highest % card played in all these decks because of what it did for yet again, 0 investment cost.

It does not take a pro player to understand why probe was broken.
People who defend it for tier 3 decks can just replace it with another card and it requires mana.

A 0 mana investment card that replaces itself and does 5+ things is already a siren alarm.

Sam Black doesn't intricately understand that using actual mana for a deck to ascertain it will win or not over a 0 mana card makes the format slower, which is good for format health. Keeping the card to help tier 3 decks doesn't make sense when the overall harm is t3 or even t2 kills in the format that preaches itself to be a t4 format. It just makes thoughtseize and inquisition more integral to winning with the deck.

GGT was a hit to dredge decks, But overall dredge as a mechanic is pretty much non interactive as you can get. Forcing yourself to "interact" *air quotes* with the deck is slotting up your SB and hopefully you open with it or mulligan into it on your 6. That isn't magic game i certainly don't want to play. SBing multiple copies of progenitus also is the same thing, it does what you want it to do and you are putting it there because are you forcing yourself to interact with a deck.

I don't want it to get to the point i am forced to dedicate 6-7 slots to GB hate just because this deck exists the way as it is with GGT still available. I am already doing that in legacy/vintage, i don't want to do it for modern as well.

Gitaxian Probe had it coming to it as well, UR storm isn't dead nor is Suicide Zoo. It just means there is breathing room when you aren't getting killed T3 majority of the time. (for suicide zoo)
It actually takes mana consumption now to MB 4 TS and actually use a card that requires mana to ascertain whether or not you will win, over playing a free spell that replaces itself and say I win because i have more spells than you.

UR storm can easily replace probe, and it will now again costs mana to get a cantrip instead of using a free resource.

I cannot wait for the announcement they will make and see if they will unban any cards. They have actually forcefully slowed down the format, and they DIDN'T kill any decks as lantern mentioned. Lantern is just over-reacting that stuff gets banned and unbanned over "fixing" the problem, there will always be a problem to fix in modern as long as sets keep being printed. There is no actual "fix", printing 1 mana removal spells doesn't solve the problem at all, it actually worsens the problem now because 1 mana removal spells needs to be a thing every few sets.

you just need better interaction in the early game, instead of skywhaler's shot, was stasis snare something you don't want to play? People were also cutting advocates for immolating glares. Immolating glares have been doing just as well for early interaction. Appetite for the unnatural is a better interaction than fragmentize, if you really wanted frag i would rather play natural state at that point.

Very happy to see this deck being competitive with T1.

To all those playing Gisela and Bruna, are you melding them as often as you had hoped? Is it the threat of the meld that makes them good as they attract removal that would otherwise be used on your bombs?

As for The green gearhulk, when you play him are you playing him as a straight 8/8 or are you putting the counters on someone else? If so, whom?

brisela has been mediocre, but i get it out 1/12 games. I used gisela mostly for gaining life and a heavy hitting flyer, i bulk it up with gearhulk or gideon emblem to go to town. Green Gearhulk has been the nuts, i would pump up my ally token/gisela/advocate. Or i can pump up my servant/himself/displacer or reflector mage. He has been very flexible in many situations.

If i do get out brisela, they have a 6% chance of drawing a board wipe or they just lose. I have a winrate of 60% of my games i put her out without getting board wiped, since fumigate is usually sideboarded.

I wasn't able to go to GP for no ride. So i just played game day. Pretty small due to GP providence and a lot of the heavy hitters went. SO it was pretty much t2 decks at game day.

    Round 1: Metalwork colossus deck

Game 1 just use servant to pump out gideon and swing into this non interactive boardstate for quick game.
Game 2 same thing with eldrazi displacer instead and swung for 5 and cataclysmic him for game.

    Round 2: Another metalwork deck

Game 1 like before, but i also had tamiyo to draw cards.
Game 2 it was more interactive when i didn't have anything to his t5 metalwork into deep fiend, he deep fiend multiple times to kill me
Game 3 I drew ceremonius to stop his nonsense and swung with gideon + cataclysmic

    Round 3: Black/White Control

Game 1 he had removal for everything.
Game 2 I SB for a heavy mid late game, gideon and nissa got me there
Game 3 I got brisela out and he couldn't win after no draw power and 1-4-1 my cards

    Round 4: reanimator gearhulk

Game 1 it took 2 gideons and a verderous gearhulk to end him before he could reanimate
game 2 he got enough removal and lands to everlast 2 dudes, i lost with no board
game 3 I just drew very badly and he had time to set up

It was only 8 people and the rest of the decks were tier 2-ish decks. Cataclysmic gearhulk was the nuts. I wish i knew about inventor's fair being legendary, which i forgot. I also played thalia's lancers to search for a card that gets me cataclysmic at instant speed is nice. Gideon was insane, should be 3-4 of in every deck. Servant of the conduit is insane for said t3 play.

Negate is the PREMIUM counter spell for this format, negating copters/consul flagship/marvelworks and planeswalkers are A+. Negating ruinous path and anguished unmaking makes it A+. Run 2-3 negate in your SB, it is the real deal for this format.

    Deck updated after game day

Deck has been overall pretty good. Inventor's fair will definitely need some amount of testing if i want to MB a cataclysmic or not. Searching up a verderous game 1 seems fine.

After a whole week of aggro, I am thinking people will stray away and play mid-range builds with 20-30% still playing R/W vehicles.

Playing 0 removal in a sorcery speed style deck also feels wrong as copter will just fly over out dudes. MBing some copies of impeccable timing solves this problem and 1-2 copies of blessed alliance helps with life and dudes as well. Blessed alliance can also help out protect your dudes with its' 3rd option.

I cut out eldritch evolution due to the loss of tempo and that is pretty much game over vs. aggro decks. I hence, switch to a heavier mid-range style deck and more removal.

I like Ali's path towards the future of bant midrange, and the inclusion of a single emrakul is awesome. But i hate how he did not have any copies of cataclysm, which is very good mainboard imo. Then you can side them out for fumigates or just have both for large t5 board wipes. MB filigree helps with life total and count towards the card type. Playing two copies of nissa is very powerful in out valuing the G/B delerium decks as well as the control decks. Cataclysm MB helps out vs. the aggro match ups along with linvala and grafwidow.

I play servant of the conduit and aetherhub as reliable energy producers. Both gives me the color i want for that moment and aetherhub helps pay for eldrazi displacer. Ill prob side avacyn and the rest, i don't think avacyn is good atm with stasis snare rolling around MB, so ill SB her in with natural state or appetite for the unnatural.

Chandra is NOT for control decks, it is for super ramp decks that want to further their game plan and a good tempo card. Dovinn Bann is better for control because he nets you PHYSICAL cards, not pseudo cards.

Chandra is better in g/r eldrazi, gives midrange decks a larger form of ramp to sustain gearhulk casts.

Smuggler's copter is indubitably a powerful 2 drop artifact that will make players MAINBOARD artifact hate from these sets. Most notably fragmentize will be mainboard to answer aetherflux/copter/hedron archive/ etc. While green plays their 3 mana eat everything card. Enchantments are seeing play thanks for the u/r spells deck.

You want some metalwork colossus. You need to have some payoff for playing tempo artifacts, metalwork is the best one as it is an "affinity" creature with a 11/11 body.

Update to the deck, added more low curve as quoted from above. I just built it from initial brew into a bunch of aggro fanatics - high control.

    Deck as of now:

Rebuff is a tempo counter spell like mana leak, and it does counter a lot of things that isn't artifact. I am not so worried about a bunch of one drops, because the potential 2 drop into bush wacker is about a 12-18% hand. Where i can push out sylvan advocates, servants about 65% of the time into a nice 4 drop like gisela/gideon/tamiyo about 23% of the time. Or snap back on an advocate into reflector mage with the same percentage now. The deck before was streamlined, and changed to adapt to the current aggro-ish/ midrange format. The grafwidow is a decent lifesaver with displacer + vederous gearhulk. Mana still needs a heavy amount of fixing. NO idea if i should play fastlands or not.
