Finally got to have a few games with my daretti deck a few nights ago. Highlight was against omnath and krenko. I cast obliterate just after omnath had cast explosive vegitation and rampant growth and the krenko was a turn or two away from critical mass of goblins. Krenko scopped but i stabilited faster than omnath (thanks to metalworker)and proceeded to beat now with spine of ish sah and bosh, iron golem.
Hey all you crazy kids. Appologies for basicly up and leaving the primer. Life got in the way and i had to cash out of standard and i havent played in a while to say the least. I feel really bad i wasn't able to contribute while this deck gained popularity but it looks like youve been doing fine regardless.
Regardless if someone is interested in taking over this primer/ making a new one which is up to date feel free. Im not sure how it would work but i imagine we can contact a mod and get it moving.
Problem is the early flier, not the late ones: if you don't have Faithless Looting or Trading Post there is nothing to reanimate in GY. So you use Daretti's +2 and he's open to all sorts of nasty fliers - Serra Ascendant, Baleful Strix, Coralhelm Commander etc etc etc. He might not die, but have to little loyalty to even do his powerhouse, the -2. And then it gets very hard to start the Daretti scrap-engine.
I've been running this list for the past few weeks.
I placed 9th in my StarCity States Tournament with this, I was 1 point from the cut to top 8.
I made top 8/Top 4 on Game Day(I've only won a single Game Day{Its a curse})
A friend suggested Sidisi when I was first building the deck, after the first tourney I played, which was pretty terrible, I made some major changes, including Sidis's addition, and have never turned back.
The only difficult matchups Ive found so far are mono-red aggro and any control variant.
The Jeskai Burn/Aggro deck thats floating around can be annoying, but, if they dont get the nut draw, Ive been able to stabilize. The final match I played at states was against that deck; I got game 1 pretty quick. Game 2, my opponent had a decent start, but, Ran out of gas after getting me to 1 life. I found a whip and started bouncing back. He had one more good shot a couple turns later, pushing me all the way to 3, but, whip saved the day once again by getting me another Rhino, Opponent scooped up after the Rhino hit.
Interesting list. I'm curious if you still feel the 2x sidisi is worth it over say 2x heros downfall or 2x hornet queens. I think Hornet queen is just generally better that overload because of the deathtouch and both will generally get you 4 tokens. I to have been using hornet nest in the SB. How have you found it?
Midrange calls for better or more removal, I'd go with mainboard downfall and sideboard banishing light. enchantment decks aren't really a thing and hero's downfall catches all major threats in standard anyway.
yeah I think the extra removal is better, I like banishing as you can search for it with commune and can hit those damn jeskai ascendancy
Also heads up people, the primer is now being written. If you have any testing notes or whatever message it to me and I'll include it if appropriate.
Question: in the midrange "valentines" style lists, which do we think is better and why. see the unwritten,an additional reanimation spell like rescue or obediance, or extra removal like heros downfall or banishing light?
Im currently leaning towards unwritten or banishing light but id like to hear other opinons.
Also, i have no idea why people keep playing sidisi whip over this! Siege rhino is much stronger that sidisi unless your playing an aggro sidisi build which doesnt use hornet queens.
I just went to a tourney again today and went 5-0. Beat two Jeskai decks. Will post a decklist tomorrow, but my initial comment is that Nyx Weaver was switched out, and I didn't miss it once at all. Deck felt much stronger without it.
Awesome result! Looking forward to your list and any comments/report you post.
The brad nelson vs BBD video from SCG premium has just gone online to all! It's from 9/17/14 and BBD is playing valentines exact list. I believe its the first video of the deck being played competitively unless someone else can please prove me wrong and link it :). As with all the vs videos it has a deck tech which is always helpful for explaining how things work for new players etc. Even if this is now a little outdated and the build has evolved a little I think its an excellent video.
Also not sure what the correct protocol is but I'd like to start making this thread into a primer. If anyone has any thoughts, write ups etc they'd like included please post it or message it to me.
Edit: This video pre-dates valentines finish so I suppose BBD made the deck first???
Hi all, firstly sorry for not being active in the thread, i meant to but i've been buried in work the past 2 weeks. I have tomorrow off so maybe a bit more discussion can come out.
Thank you for posting the lists. It's good to see people are still rocking this archetype even if it was absent at the top tables of the pro tour.
Taking a look and we again see the split between midrange +reanimation decks similar to valentines list from a few weeks back (Scott Griffen's is almost identical and more all in reanimator decks with combinations of obedience, rescue and whip's. The most interesting thing to me is that 4/5 decks ran some number of see the unwritten. This card feels to me like a standard version of show and tell in legacy reanimator. Its your backup plan card because you know you have the fatties anyway. It looks to be a better fit then empty, which in my testing has been quiet bad. You can only have a few delve cards in the deck and I feel running empty stresses that fine balance to much while potentially playing into sideboard GY hate in G2-3
I was very sceptical about Resolute archangelbut a 7 mana reset button against aggro is probably one of our best options currently. Im a bit bullish on having it mainboard but its certainly in the 75. I'm still finding aggro our roughest match up just because we take a few turns to set up. If you start to see lots of abzan midrange or monsters decks I urge you to test duneblast in the sideboard. It will win you games I swear. wiping the board is generally enough, but if it isn't the creatures go to the grave so you get extra reanimation targets/ delve mana etc.
Back to the thread discussions and its great to see people winning well with this archetype! Personally I don't care if you are taking it to FNM or a pro tour, for this archetype to continue to develop we need as many reports/testing/ideas as we can get. That's win or lose mind you, if you go 1-3 still post and we can dissect what went wrong and help each other out for next time.
While all the talk in the new standard has been Abzan midrange, G/x devotion and Jeskai tempo I've seen no mention the reanimator list which won SCG Indy. I'm not sure if its because this event wasn't streamed or that SCG have mislabeled it as a generic Abzan midrange. I feel like this is a significant thing people have missed. His list is below
The below list has a different take on the 75 with 2x Rescue from the Underworld, 3x Endless Obedience and 1x Whip of Erebos favoured over the 2 Whip of Erebos in Valentine's list piloted by Robert Graves.
that is a totally different deck, Dredge isn't a reanimator deck. It uses the graveyard to pump out Nighthowler, Nemesis, Strength, etc and using Murderous Cut. I believe Reanimator would deserve its own thread.
Agreed, im still waiting for someone to make a thread for it though.
I see what you did there. Good luck with the next project.
Hoping to get a few more games in this week.

Maybe run earlier board wipes?
I like Thopter Assembly to provide lots of flying tokens.

I find it funny brad nelson lost to it r9. The guy cant catch a break with this deck.
