Any tips for the Shadow and Eldrazi Tron matchups? Lost games to them the other night but they all felt super winnable and I probably lost due to poor decisions and unfamiliarity with the matchups. Also tips on playing around Ratchet Bomb? My Tron opponent kept it on two and it made all my plays feel super awkward. Thanks!
What makes the Plate Mail so much worse than Colonnade is you have to tap 4 to cast it at sorcery speed. You're going to be playing a land anyway and coming into play tapped is not much of a draw back comparitively speaking.
Hey all, long time lurker and long time Merfolk enthusiast. After scrubbing out at the main event of GPNY I took the deck to some modern side event. During the entire weekend, out of 111 rounds I was 8-1-2. I beat 2 Jeskai control decks, a Grixis Delver Deck, Grixis Thing in The Ice, 4c Gifts, Abzan Company, Jund, and one other that I don't remember. I lost to Grixis control (only drawing land is rough) split with one of the Jeskai decks I beat (we decided to split before the game but I count it) and Elves. Overall pretty successful weekend for my first GP!
How do people feel about Vryn Wingmare ? I completely forgot that this card was standard legal until the GP. I like the idea of it a lot but my friend says its too slow but the match ups we bring it in against, we can afford to be a little slower since it also slows them down considerably. Has anyone else been trying it?
Those going GW, how do you feel about Lambholt Pacifist ? It's a big body and with Dromoka's Command, Always Watching, and Thalia's Lieutenant it might not be that hard to turn on.
Instead of arguing about why these bannings happened and being salty about it, let's talk about what will happen as a result of the bans. What decks are good and bad now? I think the general consensus right now is that Bgx is going to see a dip in play losing its best matchup, and while most think tron is going to rule the format I think we're heading back to the hyper aggressive meta that followed immediately after the tc/dtt bans.
I thought I'd mention a few cards, Jace, Vryn's Prodigy/Jace, Telepath Unbound is super good. As a creature, Baby Jace often eats a removal spell once reserved for Monastery Mentor, but a flipped Jace can offer tons of longevity into later parts of the game. Flashing back removal spells and Serum Visions is really good. Filling up your graveyard fast enough to flip him with the first activation isn't hard with fetches and Thought Scour. If you don't flip him fast you're filtering through your deck and fueling delve and providing Snapcaster Mage Targets.
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar I feel like he should be really good in this deck. With Mentor curving into him perfectly, providing a prowess trigger along with either another permanent anthem or a source of 2/2s with a 5/5 indestructible body. I think I want to add another.
I think I want more counters of some kind but I am unsure of what, probably another Remand or Spell Pierce and also don't know what to cut.
In the sideboard I like Hangarback Walker against Jund and other removal based decks that have to 2+ for 1. This card should see more modern play.
I'm comfortable with mostly any deck type but in modern I'm currently on burn. I am looking to borrow most cards but am willing to buy into the mana base (RIP wallet) or other necessary cards I can't find. I do want to learn the format since I wanted to get into legacy for a little bit now. I'm looking to perform as well as possible.
Hey all, I'm completely new to legacy but after winning a modern SCG IQ, I'm in need of a legacy deck by august. I'm thinking of either some stoneblade variant, tempo thresh, or infect. I have no idea what the metagame is like or what it will look like come august. I would like to play a deck that requires little to know knowledge of the meta but can still win an invitational. Thanks.
Besides Skullcrack, what's the best lifegain hate? I'm dealing with 2-3 lifegain decks and around 3 Abzan decks packing a full set of Finks and Rhino. I'm trying to splash black for Rain of Gore as a 1 of but I never draw it so I might bump it up to 2 or 3, but I don't like wasting my turn two casting it. Is Leyline of Punishment better at that point? Also with the black splash and a twin deck in my meta, I'm trying Rakdos Charm to just kill them when they go off.
I was working on a list for this sort of deck when I realized maybe cutting blue in favor of green for Siege Rhino,Abrupt Decay,Qasali Pridemage, and maybe Knight of the Reliquary. It plays basically like Abzan Midrange and focuses on hand disruption and finding an equipment and putting it on an efficient beater. Also playing 4 Dark Confidant. Probably wrong. It might just be a different deck. I don't have a list yet but will post later.
EDIT: The list wouldn't show up under deck so I had to do a long list, sorry.
