I've always been fond of Birthing Pod; I've played it in Standard, I play it in Modern, and I'm working to build a list utilizing it that will be competitive in Legacy, although I'm not confident that that will end up as a Tier 1 deck.
I'm fond of the Pod because I've always had a fascination with utility creatures and toolbox-style decks, and I do like playing more creature-oriented lists that can gain incremental advantage over an opponent. I do have a particular fondness of using Birthing Pod to turn Geralf's Messenger into Phyrexian Metamorph, copying Geralf's Messenger and causing massive life-loss between such interactions and Blood Artist triggers. One of the many versatile applications that the 3-and-a-half (if you will) mana build-around-me card can perform.
On the other hand, if you have a Vault Skirge manifested (and similarly for hybrid and two-brid cards), you can pay 1 and 2 life to turn it face up, because the phyrexian mana symbol is part of the actual mana cost and therefore is built into the cost to un-manifest.
What exactly does it say? I've never had a receiver's account "on hold". My guess would be that the person in question is being investigated for fraud or system abuse and that you shouldn't send in the meantime, but again, it's not a scenario I've ever seen before.
If you go that route, you will need a silver (i.e. paid) account and you should always get approval from the other party before sending less than NM - I am fine with SP and MP at a discount, yes, but I will get angry if I get less than NM and I'm not notified ahead of time.
On the bright side, I have managed to pick up 9 dual lands on PucaTrade in the past month, leaving me five short of a playset.
Guy messages me with a MP Bayou that he wants 15,500 points for. By comparison, the NM price is currently 15,150. Told him I'm interested at around 13,500, and the guy doesn't even bother to tell me that 13,500 isn't enough, and just disappears.
I don't hold it against the individual since I'm always interested in getting the most points for my cards, but I could get a NM one on TCGPlayer shipped for $145, so... I'll pass.
Same card as above - I received no feedback last time.
EDIT:
Suppression Link: Did you mean to say "counter that ability" instead? Because it doesn't seem right to have it counter abilities, except when it counters spells randomly. Other than that, it's a lot weaker than Stifle, and I think this can safely be costed at 1U. U is probably too strong for Standard in its current incarnation.
Steadfast Defenders 2WW
Creature - Spirit Soldier (R)
First Strike, Vigilance
Reincarnate 1WW (Whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, you may pay 1WW. If you do, return this card to the battlefield. Otherwise, exile it.)
3/1
The soldiers of Elainor Kingdom are so loyal to their lands that even death cannot sway their duty.
If you exile a dead Butcher to Soulflayer, you'll get Flying, but nothing else.
Just musing if I should hold off for now.
I would be shocked if they didn't appear in Battle for Zendikar.
Songs of Remembrance 2WW
Enchantment (R)
Whenever a creature becomes tapped, put a stillness counter on it.
Creatures with stillness counters on them have: "If this creature would become untapped, instead remove a stillness counter from it."
(6000 post extravaganza!!)
EDIT:
Fall 2015 Set confirmed: Battle for Zendikar.
Chance of Zen Fetches reprinted in this set: very high. I would strongly consider getting rid of any extras you have.
True. Best time to buy seasonal stuff is right after that season has passed. Christmas stuff tends to be 60-70% off around the first of the year, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is similar for other things as well.
