Anxious to hear more testing results regarding Tasigur, the Golden Fang. I think it's an awesome card, but I just don't know if I can find room for it in 360 cube.
I'd be willing to bet $1 that the alternate art Ugin is used as the foil planeswalker in a duel deck within one years time.
I'll take that bet. I'll even give you an extension to next May, because we know for sure that the next two duel decks will be Elspeth vs Kiora and a non-Planeswalker deck in the fall. Spring 2016 is the earliest that Ugin could appear as the flagship card in a duel deck.
Yea, whenever the next planeswalker DD is set to be released (after Elspeth vs. Kiora). You will have to settle for 1 EUR though, which means you get an additional 14 cents if you win
Did Ugin just explode or are their MKM shenanigans again?
The cheapest on MKM right now are 25 Euros!!!
Probably just the standard post-pre-release (!) hype. People see the card at pre-release and want a copy. I'm in Germany and was tracking prices since pre-lease. I've noticed they have moved from around 17 EUR on Saturday...
I think this card is quite good. Not as apparently OP as some of the more recently spoiled cards, but this guy has flexibility and value, and I like that.
Can someone explain why cards like this (OP at Mythic) are considered cash grabs?
Don't most packs get open up by drafters?
So why is it relevant? Honestly curious about the economics.
It's because before Mythic Rarity was a thing...this card would have been simply another Rare card in the set. But with Mythic being a thing we now have Wizards essentially splitting Rare power level cards into two slots for mostly arbitrary reasons. Lots of Mythic Rare cards are HORRIBLE in Limited or are extremely weak in that format. Ugin's Nexus and The Chain Veil are basically useless in Limited. Maze's End is another card that's Mythic and also horrible in Limited. Lotus Cobra likely wasn't causing tables to be flipped over in rage. There are tons of weak Mythics in Limited and tons of bomb Rares and even Common/Uncommon cards.
Enter the Infinite and Jin-Gitaxias aren't doing anything in Limited. But those are Mythics because they are major story based cards, have potential for powerful Eternal combos and interactions, and are better off being Mythic so that they don't appear more often in Limited as useless cards. In some ways Wizards wants terrible cards that are storyline based or clearly built for Eternal formats at Mythic so as not to pollute Limited and waste a Rare slot that a Standard staple card could occupy.
If Pack Rat is a Rare then this card doesn't need to be Mythic to balance out Sealed and Draft. Monastery Mentor looks like it should be great in Standard/Block and probably good in Eternal formats. But it could have been a Rare just as easily. And this card looks to be a Standard killer and likely a card that will get tested in Eternal formats for a few months if not years looking for decks that can use it or be built around it. Wizards knows this and rather than making the card a Rare and therefore more often opened they made it a Mythic meaning people need to crack more packs to get them on the secondary markets or in their collections.
Thanks man. Well-said.
I hate cards like these: Rares becoming Mythics on steroids.
Sorry, but your answer doesn't really answer my question.
Concretely, how does printing OP mythical put more cash in WoTC hands?
Do they cause more people to draft? Do they cause people to buy more cases just to crack and sell the in-demand cards?
Culthero gave a good answer. Just think about it...if there are more desirable cards in a set, people will draft more, crack more packs, buy more boxes. When a card of the highest rarity is basically a 4x in a top-tier deck, people will chase the card. This can be either by purchasing singles or blindly cracking packs (bad idea). If a company like SCG is selling out of a high-demand single, they will have to crack more boxes to resupply their inventory. They will purchase more product from WoTC or distributors.
Just look at fetch lands. They clearly drove Khans to be one of the best selling sets ever. Players wanted those cards and either bought packs or singles to drive sales. For the card we are talking about now...it's clearly insanely good in the current standard format and competitive players will have to spend money to get it...significantly more than if it were a rare.
The whole business model behind MTG is rarity and randomness. It's how they make money.
When does SCG typically start foil pre-orders for a new set? Surely once everything is revealed, at the earliest...but I wasn't sure if it was after pre-release, week before actual release, etc.

Morph B (You may cast this card face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face up any tiem for its morph cost.)
Whenever another nontoken creature you control dies, draw a card.
"We all want to know what's going on in someone else's head. I simply open it up and look."
Seems fun. I really like how cheap the morph cost is. Seems fun for Mono-B aggro, especially paired with the new Bloodsoaked Warrior guy. What are your thoughts?
Interesting card...not sure what to think. I believe that most of the time it will be easy to cast it for cheap, but like Ennex mentioned, there could be situations where it's completely dead....and that's no good.
I'll be adding this guy but I won't be replacing Metamorph. It is very often taken by non-blue drafters and this having UU puts it solidly in blue. Something else will have to go.
Who suggested cutting Phyrexian Metamorph? Why would anyone even consider that. I'll be running both - Clone effects are always useful and can make the 40 in a lot of archetypes.
My post (5th in thread) suggested it was good, but I didn't very clearly explain I wasn't sure what the cut would be. First thing I compared it to was metamorph to replace. I was just pumped about cloning a planeswalker
Once I thought it through I realized I'll probably just move Metamorph to colorless (make cut there) and add this card to blue.
