Some pretty major stuff went down at the last FNM at my local LGS, Gamescape. A guy I've known since I was about 8 suffered a stroke during one of his games. Luckily he seems to be recovering, he can feel all of his body now but is still having some troubles with the left side of his body.

It's kinda crazy to think that it happened to someone who I know so well.

Im planning on a cool "Get Well" present for him though, I'm gonna give him a card with a Grand Architect signed by me with "Get well soon" written on it. As you can probably tell by my handle, GA is my favorite card and everyone at my LGS knows it (Going for the meaningful present vibe). Also I think some of the guys in the community are rallying to support him giving some packs of KTK from the prerelease prizes. I know if I win I will surely float those packs his way.

While the event itself is sad, it also shows how close knit LGS Magic communities can be, and how healthy it is to have relationships like that with other players.

I used to play Heroclix with my dad too! I remember I loved it because of the physical figurines. Glad to see you keeping up the tradition Smile

I am pretty far from being a vorthos.

When it comes to magic I am a soulless, merciless spike.

Also I just started working on my EE for the IB Program, I'm doing it on HP Lovecraft and his Influence on Modern Pop Culture.
If you guys have any suggestions I would love them.

    Adventureland sounds pretty exciting!

Congrats Lumi! 5k raise is at least one legacy deck Smile

Also I too hate facebook and facebookifying my MTGS!

That's pretty crazy flooding, has it messed worth any of the transportation?

    @HH

She's a pretty cool dame, only thing I would change would be her playing magic Smile But she climbs and mountain bikes like me, and we both like smoothies. I've only known her for a week though, and it's always been hard for me to get a read on the female psyche. Debating whether to make my move or not.

Glad to hear Arctursa hitting up the competitive scene!

I too have been very busy in both the Multiverse and Real life. As far as MTG goes I recently picked up a sponsor called Equinox Gaming. I get some free gear from these guys in addition to big discounts on cards, should help my standard game considerably. I also started recording all my matches in a red notebook, writing down all my misplays and board choices as well as my thoughts on the matchup as a whole.

In real life I met an awesome girl! That's always fun while it lasts, looking pretty happy for the future.

It is very true that many high school age youth are getting hooked on increasingly worse drugs. I guess it has always been a problem but it seems to be pretty bad. I guess i'm really glad that my hobby doesn't involve doing drugs, magic keeps me out of trouble and keeps me pretty sharp mentally.

As far as getting competitive I have been practicing like crazy for GP Orlando, I've been doing as many sealed events as possible. I can't wait for it!

First of all, please use deck tags and correct spelling/full names.

Second of all, I see no problem with Courser in this deck, it ramps the deck beautifully, making it so that you don't miss land drops and that you draw into stuff you can actually use. Boon Satyr is unnecessary as an aura and made of glass as a creature.

Paragon is wholly unnecessary in this deck as the creatures are big enough already. Patrick Chapin has a sort of guideline for building decks that consists of this:
"When you put one card n a deck, you are preventing yourself from putting a different card in. Therefore you need to make sure the best possible cards are the only ones you are using.

Basically, Paragon and Boon Satyr may be good, but they aren't the best.

That's fair, I personally like Chord of Calling more but I do think that running Hydra and Chord could be very beneficial. There is nothing like dropping Genesis Hydra for 8, I can say that from experience.

Courser is really good, it stops aggro and midrange with its high toughness and lifegain. It has two devotion on it and it gives you pretty awesome effective card advantage. I would highly recommend putting it in your deck somewhere.

What is the point of Caryatid in mono green?

I notice you running it in your list Kaiyla and I am curious about your decision. Also I would like to note that running cards like Doom Engine and Soul of New Phyrexia means that your list is missing out on a lot of devotion that it could have.

Also your list is missing both of the low-cost devotion producers, like Burning-Tree Emissary and Courser of Kruphix. How can you expect your deck to be fast enough when nearly everything sits so high on your mana curve without proper Nykthos ramping?

Lastly, I really think you should replace Kalonian Hydra, a card with little overall utility, with Genesis Hydra. Genesis Hydra speeds this deck up immensely while Kalonian Hydra is honestly just a very slow creature.

Keep in mind that Mono-Green is a deck based around the core mechanic devotion ramping, making it a front loaded aggro deck that beats others due to the large size of its creatures. When you don't use low cost devotion producers you slow down the deck to the point of where any deck with decent removal will stomp all over it. Aggro decks will speed past it and midrange decks will overtake it.

But what does Kiora do for this deck? IMO I think that she doesn't really belong in any standard deck, her abilities are cute but not quite good in most decks.

That would sort of ruin the deck. Mono Green is a very front-loaded powerful aggro deck. The big creatures are the centerpiece of the deck, the only walkers that really work with the deck are Garruk, Caller of Beasts and Nissa, Worldwaker because they both accelerate the deck. Kiora's Follower is unnecessary, Voyaging Satyr works just fine as the only thing you really untap is Nykthos and the devotion mechanic produces enough mana by itself, making Prophet unecessary. Cyclonic Rift could be nifty, but the blue would mess with the decks consistency, making it not worth it in the long run.

Out of curiosity, how would this deck deal with something like Hornet's nest? I've noticed that nest can usually rough up a deck like this. Best solution ive seen is sacrificing Polukranos to kill all of the Insect tokens.

You guys really shouldn't worry about the artifact deck. That deck is an easy matchup for this deck without artifact/enchantment removal MB. Reclamation Sage is really the only one I would ever consider MB because he adds to your devotion count while supplying a useful effect.
