The End of an Era
  • posted a message on Why printing cards might make the game more expansive: a article.
The RC would only increase for people who currently own the cards.

The BOE for new players lowers with reprints. Also, overtime (with no more reprints of course) the new players RC would actually be a positive number and they would profit from their investment (assuming demand continues)

If the people who already own the cards hold onto their cards (and demand continues) they can also reduce their RC by buying the cards low (at time of reprint) and selling at a point down the road when prices rebound. This covering their loses from the initial investment before the reprint.

Ral is actually just what control wants.

Plus 1 is great in control mirrors. Gives you a huge edge in counter wars. Forces opponent to leave up one extra mana each turn. Minus 1 is great against aggro. Nice to see a walker that isn't dead against one or the other. His ultimate is just insane. Can't wait to ultimate him with a Memory Adept on the board! Mill much?

yeah right. So if goblin guide, dark confidant, or counterspell gets re-printed, we would have trouble seeing their power level because we don't know what came with them? no. this is a wrath that not only takes care of the board, but also the main way a deck recovers after a wrath. It's darn powerful and I would even say broken for it's cost in standard.

What about the supposed Gruul's mechanic? Lots of speculation that it draws creatures. Red already has hell rider and hellkite, if domri rade is real And Gruul's mechanic does indeed draw creatures, this isn't as much of a beating as it seems

The powerlevel of this card, while at first glance being completely LOLpowered, it is in fact on par with powerlevel of recent cards.

    1. It is symmetrical
    2. It requires 2 colours, of which 3 manasymbols are coloured
    3. We currently have the best graveyard hate spell ever printed t2 legal, plus cage + crypt

Aside from those 3 points, the most popular agro deck currently is quite resilient to it, and U/W tempo couldnt care less about a 4cmc sweeper.
Depending on how strong Boros will be in gtc, they might be able to put people low enough to get the last points of damage in by burn.

Now the current format has about 55-60% agro decks, and 30-35% midrange decks.
Control is almost non-existent, and combo... well combo hasnt been around since zendikar.
So to promote control style decks, and esper decks being the most predominant 3colour type deck, plus Orzhov and Dimir rotating in, control decks might have a good chance again.
Talking about dimir, the most likely speculation about the dimir keyword is that it is going to be millcentric. Now mill based decks couldnt care less about this card.

So balance wise, this card is in fact very likely, and if its fake, big respect for whomever designed it.

Spot on. A tool that gives control a chance. I mean now a days you can wrath and then they just drop hellkite, and no matter how well you played, you stand no chance.

who cares if the controlplayer has to reveal his hand to his lets say rakdos aggro player, or human player or whatever.

it does not only kill every creature on the board, it also removes every fuel the aggro player has.
just think about it: often it would be a: destroy everything + discard 3-4 cards at least. and this is by far too powerful.
the controlplayer has much more ways to draw more cards and so on, so he doesnt care even if he has to discard his single creature in his hand.

with this card printed every form of creature heavy aggro would be dead. and nothing else. it would be impossible to beat control for any aggro deck.

i dont even look at the card to know it is fake. sometimes wizzards is stupid and releases cards like thragtusk which obviously should have costed 3GG. but not even wizzards will release a card that broken.

even for 5 mana this would be too strong.

This would also make a token deck more viable than it is now. Tokens don't compete mainly because aggro is too good.

Is Supreme Verdict good against Rakdos? It is also highly speculated that Gruul's mechanic draws creature spells.

I'm by no means saying this is real, but I would not be surprised if it is. Frankly it is overpowered, but how many control decks do you see right now that don't play Thragtusk? And I'm talking classic control decks, not merfolk-esque decks like uwr flash

I agree that this seems far too overpowered. BUT...if Geist or Messenger or Thragtusk was "spoiled" in this same fashion (unconfirmed and less than convincing picture) I would also have said no way they can be real as they are far too good.

But let's examine this card in standard: sweepers are not good against zombies or Kibler's black green deck. Cavern has already severely dented control, Thalia makes sweepers not as good, Thragtusk is effective against sweepers.

Let's not forget that this card says all players REVEAL their hand and discard all creatures. Control decks don't want to be revealing their hands or discarding their 1-of finishers.

The more I think about it, the more I think this is Wizards way of making control playable again without having to splash for Thragtusk.

My speculation is based purely off the functionality of the card, not how it looked in the picture.

I was playing a very similar deck about 3 weeks before Prosak broke through with the uw flash deck. I ran bant and it was very effective. The Wolfir avenger was a fantastic card every time I played it. I never thought about mayor. So I like that idea a lot. And the viper is also quite good in some matches

I stopped playing the deck for now though. Because Cavern was just too tough to beat.
