Our lists are already tight as it is. What would you replace to put her in? And how many of her? For me, only 3-slot I have available is currently used by a full-set of Spectral Procession.

It's all good, BoBoCTiberius. Feedback like your's is actually what I need to hear. A small part of me is also thinking of the same thing with regards to the Abolisher. Do you think Ethersworn Canonist falls under the same category?

Hi, sorry to interrupt. I've played against a few Soul Sisters decks and was thinking about putting one together for myself. I found the Budget Magic Stake Sisters deck and it looks interesting (and fits my budget) but I was wondering if that's the current best version or if there have been updates and ideas for a better budget SS deck. If this is the wrong place to ask, I'm sorry. Thanks for any help you can provide Smile

It's a very good version of SS to start in. Only reason why I haven't converted my Mono-W build to that is because I'd like to stick to what I've gotten used to and come to love all these years. Like some form of 'loyalty' to it in a way.

Stake Sisters seem to have a better removal game, better sustain and adaptability as opposed to Mono-W builds. At the expense of less explosive hands (however, Norin himself can get out of hand if left un-checked). Considering how bad the current Modern environment is for our deck, you're really better off with Stake Sisters or those WB variants that I've seen recently. Mono-W just won't cut it, or to be more precise, we have a harder time with the current meta.

Hi friends, new guy in the thread over here.
I want to know if someone could help me, I'm new in the Modern format (used to play Casual only) and don't know if this deck is "Martyr-Serra heavy-dependent" or not. That build only swarm tokens and use Archangel of Thune, Intangible Virtue and Ajani's Pridemate to exploit this swarm. Its a viable build?

Oh god, it already looks like it's going to be an annoying "poking" deck with all those tokens. I've been at the receiving end of Bitterblossom as well and the Lifegain was awesome. Only reason I lost is because my opponent had SWAP. -_-

Edit: Dafuq....why does it say that your deck is my deck? lol

Still haven't fully tested that side-board. Last time I took it to FNM, I had Baneslayers in place of the Archangels. I got 0-4 due to the sheer amount of Titan Shift, Control, Bant Eldrazi and BXX Death Shadow decks in my lgs. There's only a lone RDW in the shop and I couldn't even get matched with them for the life of me.

EDIT: I also tried running the classic Squadron Hawk variant, however, I don't have any of the Mirrodin swords, so those birds rely solely on Honor of the Pure. It's bad. Those birds kept falling from the sky like they were flies.

Is it just me or the current meta of Shadows and heavy single removals is currently bad for our Soul Sisters? I'm starting to feel it's time to shelf this and stick with my Infect until such a time a card get's printed that boosts our deck.

Breakdown for some of the more unorthodox cards:

Eerie Interlude / Ghostway - Anti-sweepers. All ETB's will re-activate and will also mean my creatures can attack again on my next turn since most of the time, sweepers are cast during my opponent's turn. Downside is if I don't have this on hand and I get sweeped, it may potentially be a dead card in those scenarios.

Grand Abolisher - Anti-counters or anti-EOT-removals. It's a no brainer against heavy counter-and-go decks. However, the main reason I'm starting to wonder if I should include this main-board is because of too many times my Pridemate getting Pathed or Pushed at EOT. It's really annoying.

I'm a Christian and I actually work side by side with Muslim co-workers in my job and I gotta say; they're actually very nice and humble people. Heck, I've met my fair share of in-your-face-condescending-Christians but so far, all of the interactions I've had with Muslims and even Aetheists have been very nice, even after they found out I'm a Christian. It's funny and sad at the same time; I actually enjoy hanging out with my non-Christian friends more than the ones I go to church with.

So, I'm just curious; what part of the Koran or Islam do Muslim Terrorists like ISIS follow? What drives them to be the polar opposite of the nice and caring Muslims I've come across?

Personally I don't like playing against "Stasis" or "Land-D" decks more. If you can't even play the expensive cards you've bought because of lack of ANY land or being "locked-down" from doing anything then what's the point of playing against anyone in the first place. Might as well stick to Solitaire or something since the fun is so one sided against those two types of decks.

I think Magic should be fun for both parties. Being able to play a card (regardless of the outcome of the match) is already fun in itself. Taking that away pretty much makes the whole idea of "fun" non-existent in that match.

So, no I don't think Aggro is unfair. I prefer aggro over those other two types I mentioned.

even though the thread is kind of dead right now.

Also of note is that your blog post thing is private so we can't actually see what you have there.

Aw crap...didn't know that. My bad. Opened up my blog now.

I was going to post in that thread above but like you said, it's kinda "dead" right now. Also, I mainly just needs tips regarding my Mana Base. Clearly having that many Shocklands and no Fetch will really hurt in Modern, so, any ideas on what to remove / replace?

Hi. I was wondering if any of you can help me in converting last Standard's Bant Auras deck. As you see from my list I already replaced some of the cards but more or less the core build of the original deck is still there. As much as possible I'd like to stick with the cards in the list because I don't like it when cards just lie around my place because I'm no longer using them. However, I'm still open to ideas as long as it involves Geist of Saint Traft, Invisible Stalker, Noble Hierarch and Auras.

I'm mainly having trouble figuring out which of my lands to replace with Fetch Lands. As you can see most of them are Shocklands. Any tips on which land to replace a Fetch Land with (or any other land) would be most appreciated. Smile

The Sideboard is still incomplete but so far I'm sure of those included in it. Leyline is a no-brainer while Dawn Charm helps against, Discard, Edict, Aggro and Wrath effects. But, like with the deck, the SB is very open to suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Since the latest discussions have been on how to handle sweepers like Anger of the Gods and Supreme Verdict; what do you all think about adding in Gift of Immortality? Before Theros, getting sweeped didn't hurt as much because of Rancor but since that aura will be gone from standard soon, the gift is the only recurring one we have with the added bonus of bringing back our creatures too. The only other way to do that would be via Orzhova Charm.

Next; what do you all think about the Ordeal Auras? Particularly the U and G ordeals.

Unfortunately, this is wrong. By default it is a 1/1 enchantment creature with lifelink for W. Paying its Bestow cost means that it becomes an aura and can therefore enchant a creature, whilst maintaining the safety of simply becoming an enchantment creature should it become unattached.

So the only way for it to be an aura is to pay its Bestow cost, otherwise it is an enchantment creature.

Oooooh I get it now. I had it wrong the other way around. Well shoot...guess I'll have to find a replacement for that aura then. Thanks for clearing that up.

heya - the Eilodon comes into play as a creature unless you play it for its bestow cost. THEN it is an aura.

I was thinking of trying to maintain the archetype, though I would remove blue from your list as the only thing that needs it is the simic charm.. Im sure there are some other godawesome cards that would replace: Namely Heliod! Should reach devotion easily enough.

Spear of Heliod would help stabilise whilst your lifelinkers go to town, as would setessan battle priest - at least the life would be useful.

    My 2 cents Smile

    Hey Smile

Yeah, I'm still waiting on how slow the meta will get since that seems to be the plan of Wizards with Theros -- slow things up a bit. Heliod and Nylea caught my eye too the day they were spoiled but their cost kinda hurts. Will see what happens in the coming FNMs.

Still browsing Theros on what I can replace Simic Charm with. Chances are I may have to go back to Selesnya Charm. :p

The eidolon can be cast both as a creature or an aura. At least that's what I understood from the description of Bestow. If I want it to be just an aura, I can just pay W. If I want it to be a creature AND aura, that's when I can opt to pay for the Bestow cost.

Hello. Here's a rush build I made with the M13 and Innistrad pieces removed.

I'm thinking we're supposed to work-in Heroic creatures in our game but then we'll have to rely a lot more on Alpha Authority so that at least the Heroic creatures and their counters stay longer. Problem is, I really can't see any room for that aura anymore without sacrificing the other useful ones we have. Frown

    Cards added:

Hopeful Eidolon - W to cast aura that pumps on it's own, gives Lifelink, pumps Ethereal Armor and can also become a creature if needed.
Nylea's Presence - 1G to cast aura that helps stabilize our mana since we'll be losing the M13 duals. Replaces itself like Abundant Growth.

I know the deck looks clunky right now so any idea on how to polish and streamline it are welcome Smile

I started collecting Magic cards for the art and flavor texts way back in 1998 but it's only until Scars of Mirrodin did I actually learn the game and started creating and playing decks.

With that said; for me, M14 is....okay I guess? Personally, I don't think it's as bad as, say, Dark Ascension but yeah, I was kind expecting a few MORE good reprints or some very useful (not game breaking) Common and Uncommon reprints (WotC please reprint Shadow Rift! Please! T_T).

I'm excited that they reprinted Gladecover Scout and Scavenging Ooze. I'm neutral towards the Slivers since I never did like nor hate them in particular. I don't like the new Garruk and if I were to choose, I'd still prefer playing Wildspeaker and Primal Hunter over the new one. I'm not a red player much but the new Chandra is kinda lacking for my taste as well. Still prefer Nalaar and Firebrand. One of my favorite protection spells, Brave the Elements, is back too which is awesome. A few more cards I'm looking forward to are the following:

Archangel of Thune - for my Modern Soul Sisters and my Angel collection
Seraph of the Sword - for my Angel collection
Celestial Flare - It's white removal. Sure, it's not PtE or StP but hey, it's still WHITE removal. I want a set! Smile
Fiendslayer Paladin - It's a Knight that looks like a Ninja or Power Ranger -- with a glowing sword AND a scarf. Nuff said.

I'm glad cycles like the Titans didn't return or even Wurmcoil Engine. My experience playing in a meta those were available, they seemed to turn the meta into a "the rich wins" scenario. And as much as I love playing my Geist of Saint Traft; I'm also glad they didn't print him again or something similar. Essentially 6 damage for 3 with Hexproof is crazy, LOL!

I agree with what George51 said; they're probably preparing us and the meta for Theros. In the last few months and sets Wizards seems to be really trying hard to make sure nothing like the Delver + Snapcaster wave back in M12 to Innistrad blocks happen again. All in all, I mainly look forward to what they'll give us in Theros block. Let's just hope they try to give us something that would explain the non-"WOW!"-ness of M14.

Lastly, I think Devout Invocation is something they should have printed back in Ravnica: City of Guilds. That "tap any number of untapped creatures you control" is so Selesnya.
