Just as a comment, I suspect you mean phyrexian crusader not invader. He's a strong card, but most infect decks run the smaller infect dudes and try to win quickly. He's honestly a bit slow for the current meta I believe.

Your matches against RDW are not a particularly good indication of your deck, unfortunately, as it very strong against a mono-red strategy.

That is true, I was planning on building around it sorta... And thanks for the wording heads up, I didn't have him in my hand at the time x) I was thinking: Mirran Crusader, must be Phyrexian INVAder... Thanks bro

So, I picked up a set (3 of's, I'm working on a playset) of Phyrexian Crusader's at my fnm... And when I got home I dueled a fellow FNMer, who recently created a pretty sweet, fun, RDW deck, pretty balanced, it just lacked Bonfire, which might not have helped him. And, I pwnd him with Phyrexian Crusader two games in a row thanks to Rancor and protection from red. So, how competitive is it? It's immune to most standard removal, burn spells, Bonfire (I do believe), O-ring, ect. The CrI wanna build a BG infect deck, I was wondering what you guys think. I'm not running just infect, but it's a great matchup against Naya, GR aggro, RDW, WB Tokens (believe it or not, a girl at my FNM runs this deck, and I must say, it's pretty sweet: chumps are no longer chumps for her), and Mono-green Aggro... Whatcha think?

It's a 7 drop that provides no value immediately, has no way to protect himself, and just straight up gets embarrassed by Vapor Snag. Not to mention gets chumped for days by spirit tokens.

Aren't Spirit token decks kinda not used anymore? I mean, You never see them competitively anymore in the top even 32 (by the last couple of tournaments I looked at anyway), and I've never seen hide nor hair of a LIngering Souls at my fnm. That's just my fnm though.

He's a Miracle'd Bonfire for six at the same cost, that you have to swing with. Sooo... IMO, he's worth it, at least for a big top of the curve finisher, though Moonveil Dragon Truly outshines him because of his rediculously amazing firebreathing for everyone, which can be used on the same turn you play him, if you roll enough mana. When I've summoned him, I usually get to flame for 2 to all attacking creatures, (I Love RG ramp decks, so that's why he gets play: as a Big finisher) Personally, Moonveil to Balefire, I love both, but Moonveils a better card in the right type of deck. 7Cmc is just too big for me outside of casual... (Man I wish this card was more playable... Sadness...)

In the tokens deck, I like to play Blood Artist (so I can use Day of Judgment as a finisher).

The WWW is far too expensive for the deck, and Hero of Bladehold acts as both a functional anthem and token producer, and is just all around better for the deck. I like how angel turns off Birthing Pod, but that might be a little too narrow, and I think I'd prefer a Stony Silence out of the sideboard anyway, as it hoses Swords, Mimic Vats, Birthing Pods, Trading Posts, and etc. in a far less removable way.

Hmmmm, good points all, though the hero, while its technically a better choice, I only need one green mana for all of my green creatures, and uhhh... I don't have any, and I have three jubes :/ though if I did have Bladehold, I'd run her deffinately, she is a great card.

You all have great suggestions, though It'd take or ever to thank everyone with the button (iPod touch)... @ Dr Death: I did a bad job explains it really I suppose. However, yes, it can be streamlined. It's mainly flying, vigilance, pumping, and flicker. tokens are for when the game drags on and I need expendablea to break through a wall, an life gain is to secure an advantage. Goldnight is not all that aggressive as only a 4/4 flyer at 6, and Thragtusk will take its place when I land a few, as it's an amazing flicker target, and its pretty aggressive too. Though The captain... The captain would be an amazing choice too. I may make room for him in addition to Thag. He seems to really be all that. Also... Yeah, that about sums it up in that last paragraph. I wanna be able to swarm my opponent an attack while defending myself. However... I dont have all of those cards :/ but tokens are fun, and I have one virtue, though I need both more token producers, and virtues. Thanks man. @ Madding: Idk, it doesn't always go far enough. When my opponent catches up, or we've been stalled at each others walls, I can only send maybe 1 or two creatures at a time, according to how many are vigilanced. Every moment I waste opens me up for another mistake, which I wanna Burt trough as quickly as possible.@ panic puppet: that my friend is an amazing idea. I'll have to find one though. But thanks all again! Smile

That's exactly how twisted people's point of view about control nowadays is. You directly relate the quality of a control deck to the number of sweepers available. This is exactly the type of anti-aggro control that I was talking about. Sweepers are nice to have, but as an oldschooler I tend to think that a real control deck should have a game plan other than 4x Day of Judgment and 3x Terminus as well.

With things being the way they are now in Standard, most of the time your deck plays itself and you make an occasional less obvious decision in a Delver vs. Delver match-up. I personally welcome the change that you actually have to(or at least you can) play your deck rather than packing up a couple of very simple, one-dimensional cards like Sword of War and Peace and equip it to Huntmaster of the Fells or Strangleroot Geist and you have a T1 deck. If your opponent has what you call a "control" deck, that means he'll look into his hand, seek for a counter or sweeper and the presence/absence of it that makes 100% of his decision with no exceptions. I don't know about you guys but I love the fact people can no longer rely on shipping in a Primeval Titan or Sword of War and Peace to win the game without any variety, and the fact that maybe they will have to make a good decision or two throughout the way rather than having copied a deck. Don't get me wrong, this isn't meant to bash netdecking but just the fact that playing right now requires little skill and the quality of the draw and not missing a land drop determines the winner most of the time.

The ones saying that we have not seen RTR yet and there may be even better aggro cards than Swords... Yeah, that's right. Theoretically it's even possible that Force of Will gets a reprint. Using your brain is allowed though. M13 is significantly slower and the power level of the cards is significantly lower than in M12. You might want to ask yourself why is this. I mean let's face it, if you look at the creatures, almost none of them will be played until the rotation because we have so many better options. If we'll get something like the Titans, Mana Leak or Swords in RTR, none of the M13 cards will be played. Why would WotC print all these new cards if they have no plans of having anyone playing them? Just for the lulz? Doesn't really make sense to me, but hey it's entirely possible that we'll be getting all 5 Swords, Goblin Guide, Lightning Bolt and Stoneforge Mystic in RTR. Rolleyes

Hallelujah, someone who speaketh sense. However, I do bash net decking: no skill required + no creativity required= no fun allowed. Smile I don't bash the net deckers though, jut net decking and nearly everything about it (= however, aggro will not be silenced, and control players will have to find a way around them, sthat simple. The Wiz will Print some controlly love in one shape or another, though I doubt that control will really be viable for awhile. Besides, who hates playing against control? *raises hand* I know I do: counters stink when you can't afford playsets of your fave creatures

How good is Angel of Jubilation? I'm running a few cuz the work like lords for all the cards in my wg deck, and she shuts down pod and mortar pod and sac shenanigans in Artist decks. But please, I want other's input, opinions, comments, and experience.

Red Sun Zenith is a great choice because exiling is extremely relevant: undying & solemn simulacrum come to mind first.

You might want to consider brimstone volley.

I would consider the volley if I could pump it up, but at max it can only do 5 damage, which as a finisher, Or finish enabler, Isn't really enough for this deck. However, it would be a great card in my br ZOmbie Artist deck. Thanks for the advice though bro. I will consider changing my build to splash more burn. To be straight with you, I'd rather fork over the 35$ for The new, competitive dragon than Bonfire, an play a different deck, (naya aggro), simply and probably erroneously, because I have more fun with creatures, especially dragons. While the one sided Wrath is flipping amazing, and yes, a game winner, I lack the resources to procure a single one, let alone a play set, which would probably be necessary for any truly competitive build. But, of I had a spare 120$, you can bet your butt I'd get a few; Just not for the one-of. Or if I somehow pulled one... Anyway, Thanks again guys, you given me some food for thought and careful consideration.

If you are going to splash, you should run Red Sun's Zenith instead, as you probably won't be able to flashback Devil's Play.

Hmmmm... That would e a muh better choice, ad not to wallet straining... Maybe since its a zenith, one of the boys down at my fnm have one. Thanks man.

I'm to broke for Bonfire to be honest, and I'd rather pay the 35 bucks on a good ole Thundermaw Hellkite, since I'm such a huge dragon fanboy, ad ya the first widely considered "playable" dragon in a long time. The reason I said aggrieved midrange is because it's aggro, with a lot of cheap efficient creatures, and it has the power for midrange. Herald of war.... She never really helped me much, I took that out months ago, and this isn't really based off of the intro pack. It has some of the cards, yes, but quite a few have been lost to tuning, and pulling it apart only to recreate it in a different style or whatnot later. @ Mr Mad and Mr JJ, I have pilgrims, evolving wilds, farseeks, and the rangers. However, I am a budget player, and until recently, I haven't had a job. I agree, that there are overall better cards to splash, I only aim to use it as a potential finisher. Dr Death: I do want to play those cards, but I don't have any :/ I realllyyyy want glorys rise, but no one has one. Same with Avacyn too. Also, the gameplan is a bunch of versatility really, I have a bunch of targes to flicker, and I have a few flicker cards. My plan involves flying over for damage, engaging vigilance fr blockers, minor life gain (Cathedral Sanctifier, Goldnight Redeemer), minor pump (Bladed Bracers, [/c]Mayor of Acabruc[/c] (human lord), Angel of Jubilation (shuts off pod, mortarpod, sac straties with blood artist) and swarm width tokens (Tragtusk when I get him, and also mayor if the duel drags on long enough) if available. It changes depending on my hand. I'm trying to learn from my past mistakes with not being flexible and not having an efficient mana curve. Te biggest mistake for me is playing a deck without its key cards... Like zombies without Messenger due to budget, And playing subpar cards for the same reasons. Thanks for the input though guys, and huntsmaster I'd play if not for the price tag too. Also, it seems solid in a vacuum, my deck, but fnm has yet to test but it's first mana curve crappyin it's first incarnation, most spells were 3 cmc and up, and t really didn't take off until then either. Also, I've changed maybe half of all the cards: the ony thing that's stocked from day one is Serra Angel, emancipation Angel, borderland ranger, redeemer, and Fiend Hunter

Okay guys, I have a legit question. I'm playing a gw humangels midrange aggro deck, with 4 Borderland Ranger, and 3 Farseek for mana retrieval, and I can cloudshift. Anyway, Devils Play has always been a great card for me, made even better due to flashback. With my deck, I ALWAYS gain rediculous amounts of mana with this deck, consistently mind you, with 22 lands including four evolving wilds in that total. I was wondering of I should splash red for that devils play as an alternate win condition. I deal a bit of damage due to flying, and I could prolly win without it t my naya pod, mortar pod zombies, battle of wits, and random rogue deck, rdw meta, if I get a little lucky in some of the matchups. Anyway, I have late game staying power, but I can't win late game sometimes. Should I splash for the devil's play? For upwards of 7-10 damage? Or no?

I'm a pretty competitive magic player, not great mind you but competitive my biggest achievement is probably day 2 -ing a GP. My brother is very unfamiliar with the game he knows the rules from the Duels of the Planswalker games but thats the extent of his knowledge.
My family is going on vacation soon and he suggested that i bring two decks so we could play to pass the time. I only have the standard cards currently to build U/W Delver. I was thinking about just getting two of the event decks.
My question is are there two of the decks that are pretty 50/50 even from different sets. I would like to be able to switch back and forth but i want him to have fun and not just get beat every game.

honestly, the event decks are rarely even even. They usually just put two opposing styles against each other, at least the m13 decks did, creature rush versus burn. I'd suggest bu or br zombies vs br vampires. Two pretty even tribal decks, when made right, and I believe that they made event decks for at least one of the tribes. But other than that, I can't really help much... Humanities vengeance event deck is good, and that versus a zombie artist deck would seem to be fun. And cheap, if you choose a cheaper build free of messenger and crawler. Hope I helped. Rg aggro vs the zombie artist deck is fun too, from both sides.
