Blasphemous act was Ok but really was not big enough for the deck. We want big swingy turns and this is not impaction enough. Pithing needle is great and I hate to cut it but I felt it was much more niche than the cards I added in.
Daretti, Scrap Savant and Scrap Mastery, I could not have asked for cards better suited for this deck. I really like that red got so many cards with artifact themes. Hopefully this will mean that we will be getting more things in the future. There were a lot of great cards for the deck from this years commander product but I felt that these were the only two that really must be included. Feldon of the Third Path, Volcanic Offering, Commander's Sphere, Loreseeker's Stone, and Unstable Obelisk are all interesting and playable cards in this deck but I had trouble finding exactly what to cut but that may change. The recent surge in mono red artifact decks in the multiplayer form is pretty exciting. Hopefully there is something we can all learn from each other or offer support.
The list looks fun. I have been hoping for another board wipe to be printed or another reason to run Decree of Annihilation. For my meta I think that I would need another planeswalker to be printed that can win the game on its own, hopefully Ugin will be that card. I also like have hate cards like torpor orb and grafdiggers cage to shut down certain deck when I can't get things going. Great list though, I think its a pretty good direction for the deck.
Also, I have found that the best way to play is to have as much mana ramp as possible, and then try to blow up the permanents as soon as possible. My list is incredibly effective- but you have to cut many good-stuffy cards.
Would you be able to post your list? Yea, I like this build a lot. You get to run Decree of Annihilation and Boom/bust which are both very good cards. In the meta I am currently playing in a good number of other decks are playing walkers and the new God cards which make this strategy a little more difficult. If they printed one more good red (or if wizards decides to grant my wish and make Ugin colorless) then I would transition to more of this style. it would also give me another reason to run Greater Gargadon who I love.
Also, Hardcasting I really like your Seton deck, it is inspiring me to put my build back together.
Magus of the Moon was just to easy to play around/get rid of and it does not make any friends. Tower of fortunes was just too expensive.
Scrap Mastery is so amazing for this deck. Sac your board and play this card for value. Daretti, Scrap Savant a planeswalker basically made for this deck. I am excited to see the rest of the spoilers to see if we get anything else. A red artifact themed commander deck is the best thing to happen to this deck in a long time (sans metalworker unbanning).
My thought with rush of knowledge is it draws you 10 with your general out. rite of replication targeting reaper king well give you 25 vindicate triggers. Also goblin welder would probably do week here.
Hall of Gemstone is pretty good in mono-green. It's a card that you will like to draw, and your opponents will hate to see played.
It is a pretty good hate card. I personally like Dosan the Falling Leaf to deal with people trying to stop you. He is a creature which counts for a lot in this deck. The deck should be able to win before people have reasonable defenses up.
@Trancekat, Thank you very much.
@akroma44, Candelabra of Tawnos would probably be pretty good, maybe a little unnecessary but good. Magus of the Candelabra being a creature would, for once in this deck, not be as good because of the inability to use it the turn you play. Illusionist's Bracers is probably not worth the spot. The deck needs to run an extremely high number of lands so card choice is crazy important. The bracers would work well in the deck but because they require other cards to function its difficult to make cuts for it, despite my personal affinity towards the card. If you are wanting to make the switch go for it. I really think it is an interesting deck that is unique in EDH. It really is a hard combo deck (like Goblin Charbelcher or Storm) so keep that in mind, some metas are pretty averse to to it and I have gotten some flack when going to different shops not used to it. Also, people really do not understand the deck so the first few times you play play it places people will probably be taken really off guard. If there is minimal disruption the deck can win turn 4-5 very consistently.
I think it's really good in this deck. Gelatinous Genesis is great but because it is not a creature there are very few ways to tutor it. The hydra being a creature makes is significantly better, even though it will require more mana. I deck cranks out enough mana that spending the extra 6 is not terrible and the consistency of the card is much more important.
All these worked for me. Either as ways to get lands or set you deck up to get lands, I.e. Sylvan Library and scroll rack. Top is also a good way to set your deck and make sure you will draw a land the turn you need it.
Kurkesh sadly was not good as I was hoping. At face vale I though it was a little Rings or Brighthearth but this is not exactly the case. The card is pretty good but it's not an artifact and will sometimes just be a 4/3 for 4 which is pretty underwhelming. Mimic Vat: is pretty good but the deck does not have a lot of spot removal to turn it on very well. If you are in a meta with a lot of wraths going around, but I felt it just sat there for a while before getting me value so I felt that there were other cards that would get more immediate gains. Blasphemous act: I really want another sweeper in the deck like Obliterate but am settling on this card for now. I'm going to see how it is but I might put in Skred, Aftershock, or something. If only Worldfire wasn't so broke it might not have been banned. Tower of fortunes: With Metalworker being unbanned, So excited, I think that the deck is cranking out more consistent mana and the deck really wants more card draw. Red has been getting more card draw so I'm sure that this card will probably get cut in a while but not yet. Phyrexian Revoker: Great card but to weak to removal so i cut it for Pithing needle. Needle can't be tutored with Recruiter but I'm more concerned with having the card stick around.
Khans had a few good cards for the deck but I have not put any in at this point. Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker is pretty exciting for his ult and ability to survive through my board wipes but I am still on the fence about his power level in the deck. Ugin's Nexus is pretty exciting but not abusable because it exiles so I am still trying to decide what types of changes the deck could do to get more value out of the card. Hopefully, we will be getting Ugin as a card in this set like is being hinted at. He will probably be a colorless planeswalker which would be very exciting for us.
Not a fan of act on impulse. I feel you have to be mite conscious of when you play your powerhouse spells in mono red became we have less counters and huge value swings so impulse encourages you to make bad plays to get value out of it. I'm glad red it's getting draw power but I think thus is more of a burn card.
Out: Pithing needle, Blasphemous act
