Looking at the tournament reports, post Dragons Maze, I can't find anything in the way of straight Naya Midrange. What do you guys think? Can this deck just not compete with Junk and Jund or even Dark Naya right now? I haven't been able to playtest since DM but it seems like we got a few new tools to tinker with.
MD I think you should cut borderland rangers for a 4th huntmaster, a 3rd bonfire and a 24th land.
SB looks alright i'd say get your pillars up to x4 you never hate to see those fighting zombies or rakdos aggro. I'd also drop the O rings for zealous conscripts. I think its unnecessary to run centaur healer and smiter, smiter is better even against aggro that extra toughness goes along way and ur gonna gain plenty of life without healer.
UW and draw go style bant decks i'd side in triumph to keep up with their constant drawing. UW flash which is also pretty weak to rest in peace and plains walkers who produce creatures (garruk). Cavern is obviously really strong as well. you can always side out bonfires in these match ups its not very effective against control style.
Zombies all you need is 4 pillars and MDin that 4th huntmaster would help but Zombies and Mono Red are pretty easy match ups. I would side out Garruk or angel of serenity. Guarruk will just get burned and serenity is good on paper against aggro but pillars will be quicker.
Midrange is our hardest match up garruk and angel of serenity are good in this case. Sigarda is good againts JUND the hexproof stops their million kill spells and sigarda laughs at olivia (unless they pump her but thats when u smack her with the selesnya charm). Zealous conscripts also shines against midrange.
Not trolling on you Gupotamus but I don't really think he was looking for changes to the deck. The list he is running is the Las Vegas open winning deck list to the card. Obviously it did something right considering it won a huge tournament and the other major naya archetype came in 9th or so.
I would definitely not take out those O rings. They are useful against so many things in the current meta Planeswalkers, enchantments, the occasional Runechanters pike. And personally, I like the Borderland Rangers MD. They add some consistency so you can always get that third plain for AoS or sometimes even a red mana source is hard to come by.
That said Gupotamus is pretty spot on with the sideboarding. Often I will sideboard out huntmaster against mid-range decks because you are trying to just go bigger then them. Taking out bonfires and huntmaster makes room for your oblivion ring and Sigarda.
. I side out bonfires, garruk and maybe selesnya charm against zombies and side in terminus, pillar, Rest in peace and centaur healer... although you aren't running any terminus in your SB.
For control I side out the bonfires, healers and maybe selesnya charm or huntmasters for the smiters, sigarda and maybe rest in peace. Also if you are putting Rest in peace in Angel of Serenity is less potent.
Hah I didn't see that. That's what I tried tonight basically. Going 8 dorks. The presence is more important than Farseek. It was alright. I had some other cards that weren't good. If I played it again it would be something closer to that. Although I think the reason you play Naya right now is that Cavern of Souls is reasonable in your deck. Most GW decks can't quite justify it. This makes it better in the UWr matchup and the value helps. The only issue is the clock goes down significantly compared to other GW decks and the removal can't quite compensate. I was trying to find ways to remedy that but haven't yet. Still that's pretty good. As commented before the difference between now and Gruul/Boros is likely huge. Very much looking forward to that.
In play-testing I liked it much better without the dorks, the farseek was much smoother. I won game-day with my list playing against usa control, azorius aggro, Golgari Zombies, GW Aggro.
It's a little slower but having centaur healer, thrag and huntmaster mb helps to compensate and come back pretty quickly once you start blinking them.
This is my list so far for scg St Louis. I'm debating between playing Armada Wurm or [Angel of Serenity [/card]. Sure, wurm comes out a turn quicker, but Angel is so good and really functions a lot like bonfire in the creature match ups. Thoughts?
angel of serenity all the way... I played a similar deck on gameday and AoS was so valuable against almost every match-up. It won me 3 games that I would have lost had I drawn an armada wurm. I won game-day by the way. Naya IS a deck.
I ran a Naya build at a local tournament last night and didn't lose a single game! here is the deck list. I played against, Junk Tokens, Izzit Control and Selesnya Aggro. I took the list from starcity and messed around with it, adding in pillars MB and Smiters MB.
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how his early game runs against the likes of B/R zombies... Might hobble it together and try and get a fnm in before gameday with it. Interesting theory on the pilgrims.
I don't know, I have to disagree with the Thrag/Huntmaster evaluation... They do two different things. Huntmasters are able to flip back and forth performing different tasks + they have better synergy with Gavony. Bonfire is huge against tokens and pillar just destroys zombies.
Another Naya list. Going to try this out at gameday and see how it does. Comments/criticism welcome! I found it fares well against Zombies and tokens, worried about Jund and USA match-ups but we will see how it goes. Seems a little better position against control than straight G/W...
I'm kind of in the same predicament, although I'm still not ruling Naya out. There were a few top 4 lists in states. Im going to try this list for game day and see how it goes.
I haven't play tested too extensively but it's pretty strong against zombies and Junk Tokens. It's not as ramp driven as your list so it has had some slow starts. Never had any mana trouble though.
With Birthing Pod and Green Sun's Zenith rotating out, do you guys think they will be printing something for green to keep consistency and tutor creatures?

It's pretty tight but I really don't like arbor elf in Naya. Also, I would maindeck 2 Garruk, Primal Hunter. Throw Sigarda in SB.
