Since I play Magic Online I have only posted up my deck as it is pre-AVR and but will obviously update is once that comes out online. This is not a Solar Flare Deck in any way, even though there is that combo of Sun Titan, Phantasmal Image and other 3 cmc and under cards (Dead Weight, Liliana).
One thing this deck seems to be lacking as I play with it (haven't played competitively yet) is that it lacks win conditions. Sure there is Sun Titan/ Images which is pretty much a game ender with the right support but other then those I don't have many cards to win the game.
What do you think I should change for this deck? Again, I don't want it to be a Solar Flare deck and I definitely don't want it to rely too much on Planeswalkers (more then 5 is way too much for example). But other then that what do you all think?

Ah ok. So it's either Esper Control with plenty of Planeswalkers or it's Solar Flare? I'll pass on both actually, not a fan of either. Thanks for clearing it up though!
I honestly think Esper Control (PWer or not) is the most instinct driven deck. As it is just react. If you don't have the answer or Lingering Souls, cast a draw spell. If you have mana to drop a walker...which that is even instinct driven using it's abilities. Will using the + ability further my plan to control the board until I drop a fatty/another walker? If I use the - ability will it help me this turn?
The entire game though really requires thought. No matter what deck you play. Even WWR. I personally don't play it. But someone on my team does, and I can see the gears turn whenever he is getting a card from some kind of fetch, and even than it's an error, so it does require thought (Admitingly though, he plays RBG WR. lol)
Question, what does an Esper Control deck look like WITHOUT Planeswalkers? Because I personally really like all three colours but have stayed away from Esper Control simply because I don't enjoy using a bunch of PW superfriends.
I'm just really curious as to what an Esper Control deck is with PWs, because that seems like it would really appeal to me.
Ok, sorry for not replying to all this earlier but I've been asleep and at work all day.
It's crazy to wake up with over 40 responses in a thead that I thought was going nowhere. Even more surprising is that so many of the replies were completely off the mark of what I was asking.
I wanted a deck that revolved more around intellectual guesses and instincts, not ones that relied on calculations and such. I am not saying I want to play a deck that is meant for morons, because I love decks that are hard to play, I just wanted one that benefited from my specific thought process.
The guy that mentioned something about creature damage and mathematics is pretty spot on. Trying to calculate creature damage or life totals and all that frustrates me. What I do best is guess, and that is why after all this I think a Control deck is best suited to me. It should be pretty obvious why.
Appreciate all these posts though! Definitely made it interesting.
After Octobers rotation it will lose BSZ and honestly I'd consider Black arguably being the worst colour right now. I think reprinting Damnation is also necessary in M13 in order for it to get great again, especially in Control decks.
What do you all think?
(Pointless topic? But I think it would start a solid conversation).
Haha you are saying 'pick one' to THE most indecisive person when it comes to chooses a deck. Saying that though, it will definitely be a Control deck, most like U/B or Grixis or even U/W. I don't like Esper because it is just too Planeswalky-oriented.
Appreciate the advice though, after reading over it again it was somewhat of a funny question to ask. I was expect worse answers.
If I've learned nothing else from my brief time here it's that this is a loaded question and one that, were I to give a definitive answer, would be met with enough slings and arrows to sink the Titanic. So I will answer it with a question.
I assume you've been playing for some time at least and have played some decks already. So, what decks do YOU find to be your easiest to play from past experience?
Aggro weenies?
Mid range?
Ramp decks?
Tempo decks?
Combo decks?
Control decks?
Give us a generic deck type YOU enjoy playing and then I can pick out a specific deck that is considered competitive in today's standard environment.
My preference, out of those it would be Control, Mid-range or Tempo in that order. Does that help?
It's weird though, I love to think while playing Magic and I absolutely love hard to play decks. It's just that I find spending TOO much time on my turn and calculating every move to be super boring and for some reason whenever I play based off my instincts and impatient play I'm often rewarded.
Again, I love hard to play decks, just not ones where you have to think too much. Is that a complete contradiction? I'm not too sure.
This might seem like a bit of a funny question, but I'm the sort of player (and person) that is pretty impatient and just prefers to think and react with instincts and off the top of me head. I consider myself to actually be a good player (mainly due to my good success in drafting, as well as just knowing I'm better then most other players I go up against) but I don't completely rely on spending hours during my turn thinking and calculating my every move.
Does this make sense? Are there any competitive Standard decks that reward this kind of playstyle?
This is my U/B Control deck prior to AVR (I play on Magic Online and the new set isn't out yet). I haven't written up my sideboard because I'm not at home and can't exactly remember what it is/ it changes a lot.
I really enjoy U/B Control, especially this deck because it doesn't rely as heavily on permission and actually more on creatures and if I do keep this deck intact for AVR then I'll get rid of even more counters (Dissipates).
Speaking of keeping this deck intact, should I convert this deck into Grixis Control or Esper Control once AVR is released? The thing I never liked about Esper is because it relied way too much on Planeswalkers which I'm not a fan of and the thing about Grixis Control I never liked was mana inconsistencies. So should I change this deck into any of these? If not, what new cards from AVR should I add to this deck once it's released?
Between Esper, U/W, U/B and Grixis Control I have no idea of what I want to play. Blue is my favourite colour, which is fine because that's included in all of the ones I mentioned, I also want something that isn't too planeswalker oriented and if possible, more aggressive compared to the other control decks.
What do you recommend? If you could, how would you separate each control deck into their own respective strengths and weaknesses? Not only would this help me choose one, but also others help others who are as indecisive.
