    given this some thought and I think this set is going to have to be vary fluid up and threw testing so wording, flavor text and names for new mechanic's are at the bottom of my list right now. However comments about these aspects would be helpful I will avoid commenting at length on them for now instead well hold on to them and use them for the testing phase and when we have a better sense of what the sets going to look like. I was thinking about what I truly wanted to accomplish with this set and at first I realized I'm not sure. So the first big thing I open to the forum is if you where to play non tournament legal magic cards what is the most likely setting for such play. Sealed or draft, structured social, or something like elves vs. goblins.

    I'm hoping you guys will give big hand with this as this will be the base for the set.

    Mean while card ideas will continue to pile on.

    I also want to do a set of avatar to show respect to the pre-mending walkers. If the set follows threw to the limited run I want this would be done mainly by box top cards. 1-3 random avatar's per box. Vanguard cards basically. They'll be colorless obviously but still want them to have a color feel.

I think the story line I want to use here is going to surround the damage to Dominaria and the first planeswalker, or at least he thinks he's the first he's going to create copies of the most powerful planeswalkers threw out history many will know some we will not to aide in a war when creation still swirls into the multiverse and creatures plot to stop history from ever forming. This is where I'm at right now.

    One last note on the front of the opening hand cycle when it comes time to play test them I plan on play testing them with different limits on them to see how broken they are in comparison to the rest of the set. full spectrum including relentless rat.

    I've given lot thought to manifesting rarities originally I thought sense they we're all broken they'd be Mythic and Rare cards, but then I realized some cards didn't feel that rare. Set size I know I want do be big enough to do pre-cons but small enough that it didn't require filler slots. I'm thinking 115-145 neighborhood. Keep in mind this set will not be designed for drafting so I don't think it needs to be to much larger than that. I do realize the play testing will be intense, but given the nature of this project I figure the whole process will take quite awhile. I would love for idea's on the rarities and the story concept sounds like a good angle as we know the ability of the old planeswalkers where almost limitless. It makes sense that we could see some references to this. Perhaps also an alternate time stream where the rift never happened seems possible. We'll see which one feels more right. Saturday I'm hoping to post 20-30 cards but for tonight I wanted to get this posted:

    Alright so the howling woods cycle is something like this:

    White:

    if live unlived is in your opening hand you may discard it. If you do double your starting life.
    If your life would be reduced to less than 1 at any point this turn gain life equal to damage instead of taken that damage.

    Blue:

    Mindful Mage 1UU
    Instant Creature-wizard{R}
    If Mindful Mage is in your opening hand you may discard it if you do counter the first spell an opponent casts and draw cards equal to it's converted mana cost.
    When Mindful Mage comes into play chose one:Draw a card or Counter target spell.

    those are the additional 4 cards for that cycle. I'm thinking of giving artifact one as well, a pseudo Solemn.

    So the idea behind this set is actually a limited set it's going to be similar to the un sets in that it's design is not meant to function with other sets. The cards are met to be balanced onto each other so the set will still be playable. All cards will be inspired by real cards, or game asspects but will be elevated to broken levels. Example:

    Avacyn, the indestructible 5WWW
    Legendary creature-Angel {M}
    Flying
    Avacyn, the indestructible and all permanents you control are indestructible, can't be sacrificed, can not have their toughness reduced, can not be removed from the game and can not have counters placed on them and are not effect by spells that do not target.

    The other story is the desperate ravings of those foolish enough to wonder into our hunting ground. We've gotten varied reports from delirious travelers trying to save their own life. Reports change from victim to victim, but the common theme is life. We are allegedly far from alone. So is the story, some go as far as to say that Kerth was not as strong as he thought and the field has holes, and at those holes oasis form. Other's still tell of a disfigured race that searches tirelessly for a way to restore life to this world. When I was young I ate a druid who insisted he could lead us to a place where animals had slipped into hibernation awaiting their world to return. Of course we dismissed all this as stall tactics. Perhaps you would care to search them out as well, they may have more answers for you," The dwarf said walking back into the shadows. Standing in the bonfires light she could sense the tribe retreating into the night. She walked the opposite direction into the night.

    Her journey for answers would be aided in no way by continuing to force the dwarfs to interact with her. She scanned the horizon and thought how nice it would be to know where she was going, "An'shon, I require your aide."

    A silhouette appeared in the darkness,"Mistress, the master grows weary of your interest in this plane and wishes for you to explain why you wish to tamper with his playground."

    "In our deal you answer to me, do try to remember I once subjected him and your where the condition of his release, do you wish to test my powers now that they have grown. Search this plane every where the shadows creep, every where the night touches. find life for me, and tell your master if he dares to challenge me again let him come out of his precious spirit realm and come before me himself." She scolds the silhouette, than turns her back to it and then it is gone.

    Magic seemed sketchy at best on the subject of a planeswalker for each guild and while the basic plot flowed give or take rather well I think the idea of multiple planeswalkers for so many guilds is just not going to happen. My hope is they'll blow people away and go a different way completely. I mean gold sets a given, but does that mean ten guilds. I hope not. Magic is about experiencing new things hearing new tales. I fear if they do ten guilds then they'll be tempted to fill that set in with been there done that reprints, filler, and themes. I mean your story has a great fell to it, but if you reprint simic cards for example how many simic players will be pissed they're missing creatures with graft. Just a thought, but I'm all for it if they can redo the ten guilds with flavor of something new this would be a great starting point.

    "So you simple beasts think you special, with you simple tricks, come now surely you know their are other beings on this plane and like you they must feed," K'aha smugly baits the voice in the shadows.

    "Their numbers must be small to send a singular mutant like you." The raspy voice shouts back at her, and in his mind, in that moment the thought of feeding slipped away, replaced with that of torture. Perhaps equally as painful, but much longer lasting. So she aloud him to demand answers for awhile and fling small fire balls at her as she dove deeper into his mind. As she was about to break from the probe, to make the discomfort stop, she found her self in the core of the dwarfs essence the mana center, and their she could see herself floating in space. She was surrounded by countless stars and she would see them come closer till she was inside their gas bodies and she could see all the explosions of the gases happening around her and then she was in space again and all the stars where arcing giant explosions and she could feel the red mana swell in her.

    "Amazing," she gasped and as she did the mana raged inside her and she inadvertently released it threw her arms burning her binding away. As she feel to the ground she was snapped from her probe and for the first time one of the dwarfs stepped into the light of the bonfire.

    "What's amazing, what have you done?" the raspy voice questions from the small scared Dwarf in the fires glow.

    "Stolen your mana," K'aha states. The shocked look at the word mana is worth all the hardships endured K'aha thinks to herself, "Let me explain. I'm a vary powerful being from another plane. I've come here because my shadow guard tells me of an interesting phenomenon on your plane. To put it simple the mana is gone. Now I know thou that some how you adapted mana drawing abilities to the cosmos them self's. Now that I have taken this knowledge I feel a surge of power the likes of which I've never known. Now my goal here is research, if you tell me everything you know about your world and why their's no mana, we can go our separate ways."

    "Well I know two stories I can tell you, but then you must give us something in return."

    "If it is in me to give I will."

    "How did you learn our secret."

    "Ah, that would be my secret." At this point K'aha has managed to get back to her feet and put her silk white and gold robes back on.

    "Vary well, the story is as old as the tribe, passed down from archmage to archmage. The time before the tribe when the great oasis spread from pole to pole. Their came a Minotaur of great power. Even with such power he craved more. So in a single violent and selfish act he formed a barrier over the plane. It funnels all the mana from the planet to Kerth where ever he travels. After he cast it the tribes of the plane rose up and he slaughtered the men women and children of Minctufeur by the thousands. So those who survived his onslaught crypt away into the shadows and prayed he would never return.

    So hopefully someone is reading this and I would love to know what anyone is thinking.

  • posted a message on [Primer] MBC or How to make enemies and alienate people
    could be wrong but I seen no mention of homicidal seclusion which in control heavy black decks seems to be money to me. I could be wrong, I also think brains is solid side board option their are more than a couple non-planeswalker, non-creature cards out their that can totaly wreak your game. I'm going to start play testing MBC again as I was a huge fan with Korlash, and I think it's coming back into it's own.

    you should be taking more advantage of soulbound you got lifelink guy, haste guy, and first strike guy their all money here. Of course than there is that angel of glorys rise I think, return all your humans from grave. Bonfire is a must I would say. That should help.
