Either Thought Knot Seer or Smasher

bear in mind that i don't play that much modern, but seeing T2 tks in a format that doesn't allow Daze or wasteland I just feel it can't be healthy at all.

How do you guys deal with RG Tron?

I always find that running 6 countermagic as too few.

Most of the games are them assembling tron and t3 karn and I have no response, or I'm already too far behind.

can we agree that now that Twin and Bloom is out, Modern is desperately screaming for Wasteland?

I am leaving magic as well.
Cant stand the anxiety from a possible ban of every deck that I have

Just play Legacy, you won't encounter those problems there Wink

Hello, I've been playing modern for something like a month right now (i was playing and still playing mostly legacy) and i can't help but asking, wouldn't Wasteland make this format much more healthier? If you are so panicked with Loam + Wasteland Strategies, just simply ban Loam, it's not like the card was seeing a lot of play here.

Actually FNMs can be sacntioned in any format nowadays. Also @KioshiAmadeo welcome to Magic the Gathering! Always nice to see new people coming around. Although I'm not a Modern format fan, I'll agree with what everyone in this thread said, that it's better for you to start with a non-rotating format like modern to get a hold of how the game works without you cards losing value. Now, before everything, you must know that Magic is an expensive game. Still, cards are in huge demand and you can always sell out if you want to. However, I do believe that if you start small you can always slowly start to upgrade your cards into the competitive ones used in Modern.

Another pretty cheap format that is highly competitive and tons of fun is Pauper, you can buy a competitive deck for around 25-30 US Dollars. In fact, I know a lot of people that started playing in pauper and then, when they had a good hold of how the game works, decided to buy-in into other formats. More and more stores are starting to support the Pauper format, also Pauper is also non-rotating, so your 25-30 dollar deck will always be usable and competitive. You can check the Pauper forums here: http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/magic-online-formats/pauper

The colors you are running make me think that you could be feeling comfortable playing BW Tokens in modern, which actually pretty cheap and efficient: http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/developing-competitive-modern/562369-bw-tokens

    Legacy player here.

    to modern veterans:

would Wasteland and/or Force of Will be that broken in modern? the more i see modern the more i feel FoW would suck in it, it would be good vs grishoalbrand but ***** against anything else, and because no brainstorm nor top, there's no way to tuck it away.

I'm a modern man, the format is what I, and some other people believe, the way competitive magic is supposed to be. Modern is growing, and legacy is dying in a way. So its best to just try and see why allot of people feel so strongly about it.

The "Legacy is dying" is a proven joke already.

About Modern being the way competitive Magic should be, you should realize that even the big names like Owen Turtenwald or PV called modern a dull format. I get that it's still in developmental stages, but thinking that simplifying the decision trees in a game is the way to make it more "competitive" just doesn't make sense at all. But hey, that's still my opinion. I get that people might get a little bit intimidated by "faster" formats, but I suggest you give it a try.

I play modern from time to time because during the week i want to play magic and i can't wait to the weekly legacy on saturdays at the gamestore i attend. That being said, I don't enjoy the format a lot. It doesn't matter which deck I play with or against, I always feel the format is just about who can make more "2 for 1s" and singular card value. I feel that in the format it is much more important what a card can do by itself than what kind of synergy it can have with others, every deck, at least for me, feels like "value.dec", while in Legacy is the complete opposite, cards are much valued because of their synergies and not on it's own. Even some Modern decks look like a poor man's version of Legacy decks: Tron is 12Post, Elves in Modern is a laughstock against it's Legacy counterpart, same with Merfolks, DnT, Jund...

I also don't like the manabases (fetching for shocklands makes me cry), and to me the game feels extremely empty without the Stifle/Wasteland/Rishadan Port angle of the game (don't tell me "but you have tectonic edge and ghost quarter!" because we both know that's a big fat lie). It just adds more to the feel that the format is just who can squeeze more value out of their cards.

In conclusion, I feel modern is a flat, grey plane where you have to calculate few variables and all the games feel the same due to the few edges and angles of attack the format offers.

Welp, I could be ranting for a whole day so I'll stop it there.

Some people love that grey plane of a format.

If you say that about modern, I'd hate to see what you'd say about current day standard.

Watchinng paint dry is funnier than standard

Legacy Merfolk you would only need FoWs, TNN and Wastelands if you want
Burn you'll need PoP, sulfuric vortex and chain lightning
Jund you would only need the Duals (not that expensive considering they are not blue duals), wasteland, sylvan library, hymn to tourach, the punishing package maybe, and if you really want to invest, chain of mephistopheles in the sideboard. Probably the best option because it plays very similar to the Modern version but you don't 2 everytime you fetch, and you can play experiment with some really nice cards too (I've seen modern players getting really happy when casting their first Hymn to Tourach)
Legacy reanimator and modern reanimator are completely different animals and I can't think of a single card other than grizz that they have in common.
