I've built one for Innistrad and Rise of the Eldrazi. 4 of each common, 2 of each uncommon, 1 of certain rares (mostly the cheaper ones), and no mythics.

I haven't gotten to test them out yet to see if the mix is good, but I expect it should be close.

The last draft I did, Dauntless Onslaught won me one full match on it's own and several other games outside of that match. In an Heroic deck, it's the 2nd best card after Gods Willing.

I've blown out many good heroic decks because they lacked Gods Willing. If they had it at the key times I've used to Griptide or Voyage's End their Voltron guy, then I probably would have lost some of the games I ended up winning.

The last Heroic deck I built, I took Gods Willing as high as I could get it. I ended up with 2 of them and they saved me several times. The scry is just extra gravy that makes the card even more powerful.

For me, if I'm drafting Heroic, Gods Willing is a first pick, unless there's an amazing bomb in the pack instead.

I think the problem is that black's removal is not very good, which is usually the reason you play black. Red has great low damage removal, white has divine verdict and blue has some of the best bounce spells in any format. Green has a fight card, plus with white and red has some amazing combat tricks.

Black got the short end of removal and combat tricks. So, most players like myself, that play black because of the removal, are a little disappointed. The only reason really to play black now is for devotion more often than anything else.

I got insanely lucky and pulled Thassa out of my blue box clear pack and got Erabos out of a booster. Only got to play each of those once though, although Erabos saved us the game he played thanks to facing down his whip.

Curse of the Swine won every game I got it. Followed up by Sea God's Revenge just made it worse. I also pulled the blue and black gods, definitely my greatest sealed pull of all time.

  • posted a message on Crazy Plays in EDH.
In a 3 player game yesterday, both players who lost, were eliminated because of their own creatures.

One player was playing The Mimeoplasm , the other player was playing Kresh the Bloodbraided and I was playing Child of Alara that is built around Maze's End.

The Kresh got out to a good start and was threatening to kill us quickly. I managed to wipe the table a few times, but many reanimation spells were used. My deck had to use most of it's mana each turn, so I couldn't get very many gates out, I think I had 4 or 5 at game's end.

Finally at the end of the game, after the Mimeoplasm came back as a 16/16 [CARD]
Sheoldred, Whispering One[/CARD], the Kresh player brought out Zealous Conscripts and killed the Mimeoplasm with both of those.

With the Kresh player tapped out, I cast Havengul Lich and then slowly took his creatures out of the graveyard. The main creature I took was Master of Cruelties who after a timely Cyclonic Rift was able to reduce him from 35 to 1. Next turn, the swarm easily won the game.

It's slow, but playable. Your opponent may not like you very much, since you will always take a longer time to make simple plays. A deck with a lot of triggers is going to be rough.

This card is crazy good and another reason I'm glad I'm not playing Standard. It's not every day when you see a Planeswalker and think that it would be amazing in Commander, but this guy has some of the best abilities I've seen on a PW since Jace.

Sadly this may have to be run in limited, despite its terribleness. I think removal is going to be much smaller in this set.

These are the kind of cards that upset me, cards made bad on purpose. At 6 mana it is not that great, should have had a much higher scry or something. Like its been said before, the last block had a much better card for the same mana cost. It should be 4 or 5 mana at most.

Seriously? Preordain for 2 more mana and 2 life payment?

Preordain only lets you draw one card.

  • posted a message on Off Topic: Threat Assessment in Commander
I actually agree with the article in most of the things that were said. It's usually a good idea to not overextend, but i see people ignoring the strongest player a lot in commander and then it always comes back to hurt them.

Strength isn't just from board position. You have to look at the commander they have, amount of cards in play, colors they are playing and also the amount of lands and mana rocks in play.

For example, if you were playing against my wanderer deck, would you wait to use threats on me until after I cast wanderer? I would love if you did that, because that usually means I'm going to be way ahead at that point.

  • posted a message on Have you given up other formats in favor of EDH?
I played standard for a while until I realized I hate playing a format that rotates. Commander fulfills my love of multiplayer negotiation while giving me a chance to mix my inner Johnny and spike together.

I also would rather play a single game filled with fun than play in a tournament that I tend to take too seriously. I still draft and that let's me get my spike out sometimes when I just want to play to win.

I'm really disappointed how many cards just seem like awful plays in this set. Either over costed creatures or that whole artifact cycle. It's almost like they mailed it in with this set.

I was hoping after M13 that they would continue to make the core sets a great drafting experience, but this one seems like it is going to be very bomb dependent while hoping to stay away from the horrible cards.

I've won many games with Wolfir Silverheart. 8/8 is pretty big even for Commander, especially if you're getting him off a Cascade with Maelstrom Wanderer.
