Basically, anything that has blue. I know that's not much to go on, but non-blue decks rarely, if ever, pose a threat to you.

As far as actual decklists, I lost to Arcum because I didn't have a fast enough start. This list can't really deal with mass attacks (e.g. Arcum Dagsson into Myr Incubator and Coat of Arms) as well as it can deal with combos. Ability-based combos and strategies are also weak point because the deck doesn't currently run many Stifle effects. I thought about Stifle itself purely to help mitigate that weakness, but I haven't been able to test the deck enough to say for certain whether it's a viable route.

Animar, Soul of Elements is another quick deck, and Animar itself can be hard to deal with if it resolves.

Interesting. I would consider Trickbind or Sudden Spoiling, the latter disrupts swarm strategies and creature-based combos. I'll look into a few other blue-based decks too. Smile

    Hey guys,

I really like the deck. I'm considering building this as a competitive edh deck, but I wanted to ask in here about other potentially competitive decks... It is a little off-topic, but this honestly seems to be the only thread in the EDH subforum where legitimate competitive discussion is occurring. So many other threads have the "Competitive" tag but clearly aren't competitive.

So, if I was playing this deck competitively, what kind of other decks should I be on the lookout for as serious threats? I know for certain my casual Marrow Gnawer rat tribal EDH wouldn't be a challenge. What other generals are actually powerful enough to play in competitive EDH leagues / GP side events etc?

Any tips are hugely appreciated! I will probably end up playing this deck or some similar combo-control deck, but I'd love to hear what else you guys rate as serious competitors.

So guys, what's the sideboard plan versus Melira Pod?

My maindeck is similar to LSV's list posted here; http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=5231&d=230156

My sideboard is slightly different and I play 3 Remand 2 Mana Leak main.

    Cheers

I feel ya, Aggro strategies seem to be unplayable theses days with all these controll mirangde decks.
However I found a list from a daily on MTGTop8 with 1 main Crusader,3 Thoughtseize 1 Iok and a board of
    3 Choke
    3 Remand
    3 Crusader
    4 Abrupt Decay
    2 Iok
Haven't tested it yet but it looks sweet, could be the
    push Infect needs.

I've seen this list too and really like it, I think you're boarding out your Rancors or Plague Stingers for the Chokes and Inquisitions vs UWr?

I play both UWr Geist and BGu Infect, and the former definitely has the upper hand pre-board versus infect. The best you can hope as the Infect player for is that they keep a hand where Electrolyze is their only removal, because its usually too slow vs infect.

about vendilion clique: its very first duty is not to survive and beat. if this happens it's surely sweet, of course, but she's there to make your opponent put away a card that is gonna hurt you. It could be a Wurmcoil engine if you play against tron, or scapeshift if you play against it. it could be a PW, it could be batterskull, it could be pretty everything. that's why vendilion's there.

All of this, plus Clique has flash, which forces their counterspells out in their own turn, allowing you to immediately resolve Geist in your own turn.

I was thinking to cut those two Sphinx's revelation and add two more Cryptic Commands. Thx for hint:).

While two or three Cryptics is good, I think maindecking 4 counterfluxes is too loose.. Vendilion Clique is good, you should leave it in. Very useful against pretty much every deck.

the decks NEEDS remand. I play it in 2x with a 2x mana leak and i am thinking about playing the former in 4x, maybe leaving out sphinx's revelation since i tried it in 2x mainboard but it's definitely TOO slow in a lot of MUs, like infect, affinity, scapeshift, and sometimes zoo. i am gonna take it off to add a 2x remand. and yeah, snare is too situational. i prefer spell pierce (still sideboard BTW)

    ^THIS.

Our deck doesn't need Sphinx's Revelation. Cryptic Command is basically the only concession we need to make to a format that is starting to slow down... Revelation is just awful in so many matchups (in addition to the ones iamghost listed, lets add Burn, Tron, Eggs, Splinter Twin, either Combo Pod variant... there are more). Against those decks, if you survive past 5 mana you've already won most of the time. Remand gets you there, not "4cmc = draw a card, gain one life".

Against decks that are slow enough to let Sphinx's Revelation not just be a dead card, you want to be removing blockers with Path/Bolt and closing the game out quickly with Clique, Geist, and burn spells + snappy, not ****ing around waiting to cast some huge card advantage spell.

If I cast both spells on the card, can you snare it?

That there is a good question... I imagine it would be addressed somewhere in the rules for the existing split cards.

    Spell Snare. that is all.

Has anyone tried putting cryptic command in the deck? Late game it seems like I need a definitive "no" to some cards. Or maybe a different hard counter. Thoughts?

If you want a definitive "no", Counterflux is probably better. Having your Cryptic Command get Remanded would be sad, plus Cryptic is slower.

The latest lists (look at the MTGO Stats web) all have 2 Restos and less Lightning Helixes. Thundermaw seems to have completely fallen out of favor because of being too slow.

I too am waiting for the next evolution on this deck, since Jund is again adapting and winning with Thruns and Bloodhall Oozes (not again...) lol

Yeah, most of them have moved Mindcensor to the sideboard, too. I think I'll add an extra Izzet Charm, and maybe play 3 Helix. Not sure what I'd add in place of Thundermaw.

Another question; Molten Rain or Sowing Salt for the sideboard? I prefer the latter, because in the Cryptic Command Scapeshift lists you can completely disable their combo if you hit one of their red Shocklands (they don't run many basic mountains). But it does come down a turn later so I'm not sure.

Anyone know why Michael Hetrick hates Lightning Helix in this deck, while all the other lists run it as a 4-of? What do you guys think of the card?

How do you guys like the RG Tron matchup for this deck? I'm really keen to play this, but recently discovered my local meta is infested with Tron so i thought I should tailor my deck choice to suit.

Just a quick question, what do you guys feel is the worst matchup for this deck?
