Is lingering souls still a good sideboard card with the current meta? I recently put 3 in my SB but haven't done much testing with them yet. What decks are they best against? I'm trying to decide if it's better to just use the space for more "random" hate creatures (Aven Mindcensor is what made me think of this). I play with the Melira combo in the deck btw.

How high does this rank in pick order for people?

I don't think I'm taking it over any of the P9 P1P1. I could see myself taking it over an off color mox P2P1 though (especially in smaller cubes where I'm more likely to see 2 P9 in 1 pack), but I doubt I would take this very high in pack 3.

Not really thinking too much about it, I would estimate it being in the top third of cards to P1P1 in the average 360 cube (personally).

    thoughts?

Hey, I've been playing burn on MtGO for the last couple weeks (Just the practice room so far), slowly improving my list, and I think it's ready to start cashing some dailies for me. I just wanted to post my list and see if there is anything I can do to improve it (without buying more expensive cards than I already have)

I have been paying with this list for the last couple days and really like it, the FlamesotB really help me make sure I can get some anti-lifegain if I need it. The Dragonskull Summit's are a budget choice over Blood Crypt OBV (I need to cash some dailies before I can afford them), but it only affects my hands about 10% of the time (which is admittedly, a decent amount of the time).

Any suggestions for my deck (against the MTGO meta)?

EDIT: Also, once I have some tickets to spend on improving this deck, would it be better to first get Blood Crypts/Fetches or better sideboard cards (I want to get 2x ensnaring bridge and 2x blood moon)?
    Thanks in advance.

Can't agree with the tourney practice room. Even people playing eternal formats who have the cards don't seem to play at the same level as they do in daily events.

To me it seems obvious that people will have tighter/better play when something is on the line as opposed to practice. However it doesn't mean that they are playing badly in the practice room, and it is a good place to learn about card interactions between your deck and the others in the meta.

As an analogy to why the practice room is still good even though the skill level is slightly lower, professional level Starcraft 2 players "usually" spend a large amount of time each day practicing against random opponents on the games matchmaking service. The pro's will usually reserve their best strategies/play for tournaments with money on the line, but that doesn't mean the practice isn't good for them.

Obviously it's somewhat different since SC2 has a much larger technical/physical skill ceiling than in MTG, but the knowledge gained in the practice room can still be extraordinarily helpful.

Where did they say they were updating the B&R for Pauper Monthly?

On the page they announced the updates

    http://wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/232

Changes to Magic Online-only formats are now announced monthly in the Magic Online Community Group blog.

I can only assume that means Pauper.

Since I couldn't sell my deck before the prices dropped, once Feb 6 hits I'm going to take the grapeshots out of my deck and put in Kiln Fiend and Traitorous Blood for fun (probably not taking into any dailies). Idea is to get Kiln Fiend out first and then storm off getting it over 20 power and Traiterous Blooding it to give trample and haste

    Keeping the dream alive

P.s. I know Kiln Fiend Combo is a deck type

I suspect they were just scared of storm and since they are going to update the pauper b/r list monthly now they are going to test it out, which seems good overall for the format.

On the other hand, I just lost access to the only deck I have on MTGO and I'm down $80 (I tried selling my deck the minute the update happened since I was thinking it might happen, and everything was already very low price =(((()

I was gonna post some thought provoking discussion on whether Grapeshot or Grapeshot+ ETW is better. I guess it doesnt matter now.

But whose for placing bets on how long this remains in the established forum?

    My guess is 3 days.

    -_-

Reviving this thread to get some help with the Delver Matchup. I know storm has kindof fallen off in terms of popularity (I have been playing storm since the end of December, played around 70 total matches, and have played against storm less than 5 times), and I suspect a big part of that is the prevelance of Delver.

I don't have my decklist available right now, but I run the grixis varient with only grapeshots, which I like a lot more than using grapeshot+etw. My sideboard (accurate I think) is listed below

    2 curfew
    2 echoing truth
    1 echoing decay
    4 deep analysis
    2 ancient spring
    1 flaring pain
    3 pyroblasr

Against delver I usually board in the pyroblasts in exchange for my 2 compulsive researches, and a chromatic sphere. Is there anything else I should board in, or put in the sideboard against Delver (particularly, Does ETW+Bushwacker help this MU, since I wouldn't need as large a storm count)?

I am usually pretty good at trying to bait out their counterspells, but I have one case that I am not sure what to lead with. If I have am in the middle of my combo and need to play either Dark Ritual and/or Cabal Ritual to continue going off (I have 2 black mana and some blue mana in my pool), andI know my opponent has a single counterspell available. Should I play Dark Ritual first, or Cabal Ritual (I have 7 cards in my GY), or does it not make much of a difference?

Thanks in advance for helping me with this super challenging and super fun to play deck.

Ive been playing a lot of pauper online (storm) and the store i go to just started a weekly pauper tournament, and i am thinking about getting WW together for that.

I am wondering what cards are legal in paper pauper but not online(if there are any i should be looking to pick up). If there is a list somewhere of all differences between paper and online pauper that would be really helpful (the only two i know about are sinkhole and hymn to tourach)

    thanks

  • posted a message on How viable is it to go infinite playing pauper?
After Christmas, I want to build a pauper deck, and learn the format so I can end up going infinite with it (so that I can play other formats eventually). I just wanted to know how realistic this is, as I have never played pauper before (I heard you need around a 47% win rate in dailies to go infinite).

My plan is to build Grixis Storm because I enjoy storm decks (I don't mind the difficulty curve of playing it, but if another deck is better I might build that instead). After I buy the deck I want to play a lot of games in the practice room (thinking about 40-50, and until I have >50% winrate there) before competing in daily events.

By following this plan can I realistically expect to start making tickets without spending more than about $20 on tickets to enter dailies with?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  • posted a message on No replays during events
I have been expecting this since I realized the new client didn't support watching replays during events. Nice change, will get to play more magic instead of waiting for opponent to finish analyzing my deck (I can't analyze his since I play on new client).

Phantom packs...you won't be able to keep the cards you draft.

    Here's the other relevant article.

At the end of the article, Wizards mentions that you will be able to collect P9 by the end of 2013. That is what I was referring to.

Even without the combos, isn't Time Vault just a colorless Time Walk? I mean it dies to stuff like disenchant, but it still seems a worthy include.
