Nitpicking, but technically Mirrodin is an epilogue to Odyssey and Onslaught as well, due to the fact that the Mirari was made into Memnarch.
Valid point, I forgot that portion of the story. It acted as a link but definitely was its own separate story, compared to odyssey/onslaught which was Dominaria post Apocalypse.
It could also be argued odyssey had such little link to the weatherlight crew that the same thought process applies.
Even then that tradition has not held true since Mirrodin.
Look at Time Spiral block...
Every *new* plane.
And I'm assuming "post-Weatherlight" means, essentially, Modern format era, as you could contrive the Odyssey-Onslaught storyline as an epilogue to the Weatherlight saga. It does still take place on Dominaria, after all.
But ya, Mirrodin, Champions of *Kamigawa* (I still call it Champions as every set had Kamigawa in it, but it follows the rule), Ravnica, Lorwyn, Shadowmoor, Shards of *Alara*, Zendikar, Innistrad, and now Theros all have the name in some way shape or form in their title. Hell, even Scars and RTR had the plane name.
So yes, I'd say the only Modern Era set to not have its first large set reference the plane name was Time Spiral. ZOMG IT'S NOT A TRADITION.
It would be cool to see her in such a setting, and I think has more excuse than "she's such and such race, fits right in" which to me, when dealing with a planeswalker, is a bad explanation.
So...searing spear cost R now? 1.5:1 is the correct mana ratio
Read the post. He says damage per card, not damage per mana. He believes damage per card is more relevant than damage per mana, in which case searing spear IS superior.
It's actually a reference to a location/noble family, of which Gerrard was a member/culmination of.
Yes, but a VAST majority of the plane references so far in this core set (and most) are from Shandalar. That and Benalia is on Dominaria, a plane that Wizards has stated multiple times they don't like referencing because it is now a post-apocalyptic plane.
Anyone else find it odd that *Capashen* Knight is included?
I understand entirely mechanically why, as it's a relatively decent card, but Gerrard Capashen hasn't been relevant in years. Why bring back a card referencing him when they can functional reprint?

Also Ant Queen and Hornet Queen are based off of biological hierarchies in real life.
Isn't that Champion except w/o sacrificing? Also the God Cards wouldn't need P/T blocks then because the data would be in the card text.
What about Offering?
Also this.
Emmara was screwed by her being part of a cycle. Every Selesnya deck *should* be running 4 Emmara instead of 4 Voice of Resurgence.
But I digress.
Eh, it worked for Sorin.

I have all of the ones from M12 and they all featured scars of Mirrodin cards in them. They definitely have cards from the previous block.
