Nov 30, 2017Oh sure, I didn't mean to imply that the manlands in general aren't great (far from it). Just that in the specific case ofI think Canopy is better than Wildwood (enters play untapped, playable in decks that are either white or green but not necessarily both, has sweet synergy with Crucible effects etc.)Posted in: Cube Lists

Heh, could be fun to work out. I think multi-colored choices tend to come up quite often too due to the nature of small guild sections forcing decisions.
EDIT: Decided I'll start tracking results in the first post (updating periodically 'cos it'd take forever to do it at once). Be interesting to see if we get any rematches and whether they differ over time.
Plus it's quite funny to look back 4 years and see how bad some of the options we were considering were ("Viashino Sandstalker vs Inner-Flame Acolyte") considering what's been printed since then.
First page results
Inner-Flame Acolyte (1) vs Viashino Sandstalker (2)
Centaur Courser (1) vs Hungry Spriggan (1) vs Simian Grunts (2)
Bladetusk Boar (3) vs Fanatic of Mogis (0)
Werebear (2) vs Scorned Villager (0)
Vital Splicer (0) vs Kozilek's Predator (2)
Blood Ogre (0) vs Splatter thug (1) vs Fault Riders (0)
Shambling Shell (0) vs Rot Farm Skeleton (2)
Augury Owl (2) vs Omenspeaker (1)

'Some people' being me. I'd probably have it below Shardless Agent but (matchup dependent) about on par with Trygon.
I'm still having trouble coming to grips with ongoing investigation vs something like coastal piracy.
Or the new blue curse/Tandem Lookout.

Am I the only one who wasn't that impressed with Maw? When it worked it often felt "win more" and when it was bad it was awful (being a 3/3 for 5 mana). It would rarely dig me out from a losing position or win games by itself and those are both things I really want my 5-drops to be able to do. It could do work on a developed but stalled board state but those situations don't tend to come up as regularly in CU/be as in regular limited games in my experience; kinda the same reasons that Seismic Elemental was ultimately not as good as I'd hoped it would be for us. What am I missing?
Sep 16, 2017I never found it to be that great in Peasant either. Unless you're planning on activating it multiple times in a turn (which is difficult due to requiring quadruple U), Pacification Array is better.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
Sep 15, 2017Could you just spell out all the options (so it would look a bit like Cryptic Command's template)? Maybe creature-only damage and mono-colored tokens for space considerations? So:Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
- Create three 1/1 white warrior tokens.
- Create two 1/1 white warrior tokens. Deal 1 damage to target creature.
- Create a 1/1 white warrior token. Deal 2 damage to target creature.
- Deal 3 damage to target creature.
Sep 15, 2017majikian posted a message on [XLN] Ixalan in Peasant Cubes (Uncommons/Commons only)I think my only definite includes are Charging Monstrosaur and Chart a Course, with maybe half a dozen or so cards that I'll test or will just be 'filler' level inclusions (i.e. they aren't really upgrading existing options and/or I'd expect to replace them fairly soon). Doesn't look like a particularly great set for CU/bes (although I'm very happy to finally get a slam dunk red 5 drop) but I don't mind that occasionally as it lets things settle.Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion

Sep 14, 2017majikian posted a message on [[Peasant]] The Peasant Cube Discussion Thread (C/U/)I agree with Phitt and Vari: just run the energy cards that are good enough by themselves. If anyone ever ends up spending their energy on another outlet then that's cool but there aren't really enough cube-worthy energy options for it to be a 'focus' as such.Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
