Yeah, tez seems awesome, but my idea was to just attempt to really improve the proliferate shell. If going to 4 tez would help that strategy then maybe. U found through my limited testing, though, that it can just be really clunky. Like they counter it and keep getting ahead and you just have another and more ramp in your hand

I've been thinking about whether pentad prism might be better than a talisman in this deck. That might make me want to throw in the max number of throne of geths. Maybe even Tezzeret's Gambits. Then again, that would kind of run counter to this deck's desire to play it's colorless lands sooner rather than later. Could be better as a or 2-of.

Hello everybody! This here's a deck I've been thinking of brewing up for a while. It is basically an esper control deck with infect as a win-con with artifact shenanigans thrown in too. Not meant to be super competitive. Just something I could go to my local modern weekly tourney and go 2-2 or 3-1 with.

My favorite interaction here is that, when you sacrifice necropede to throne of geth, the counter get's put on the target before the proliferate. So pretty good at killing those flipped delves Wink

A good win con is bulking up an infecter with tez and going to town. Recurring thrones with sun titan. Proliffing chalice to do a big sphinx's revelation.

At this point, I think I should try to find room for a couple main-deck spell pierces. Not sure what I would cut.

Thank you for the compliments on the video! Indeed, I did a practice one before this but that was it. I will post the picks next time I put a draft up, though. That does seem like a good idea.

As far as the draft goes, I recognize some of the picks were sketchy. I attribute that to me being very tired whole recording (you can hear my incessant yawning) and also, it actually takes up a lot of brain power for me to try to be constantly talking like that. I'm not only having to think of the pick, I have to think about what I'm saying.

Specifically, I agree I should have taken those two cyclops of one-eyed passes over the Felhide Brawlers. The brawlers are basically unplayable in most circumstances. Picking that Deathbellow raider over the Purphoros's emissary wasn't objectively wrong, though. I guess I just thought I'd get more support for it, which I didn't. Like an ordeal.

As for pain seer, I think that card is not as good as you make it out to be. The damage you can take is not insignificant, and that's after you have successfully untapped with it and everything. It is basically a 2/2 which the opponent is more likely to trade down to kill, which is pretty good. I still think that nyxborn wolf will be more consistently be great.

For the keepsake gorgon pick, I admit at that point my deck may have preferred it over lightning strike, but there is an argument that lightning strike is just a strictly a better card. The fact that I had the two magma jets already should have made me choose the gorgon though. In hindsight I agree with you.

One more pick was the eye gouge over necrobite. Necrobite is quite good in BTT and eye gouge is just, like I said, usually a sideboard card. I'm not sure why I did that pick. There's no question I would have palyed the second necrobite.

Anyway, thanks for the comments! I plan on recording more and hopefully becoming more comfortable with it.

Aaaaannnnddd the card I couldn't remember the name of was Kragma Warcaller

  • posted a message on Gruul War Chant and why it deserves first pick
I need to draft more 8-4s online but I have had a large amount of success with Gruul War Chant. Paired with removal and bloodrush the card is even better. It excels at making combat miserable for your opponent. But yeah, if they are out aggroing you then side it out, alls I'm saying is if you first pick gruul war chant and make that archetype your priority that shouldn't happen very often.

Also, I have yet to draft a two color deck and yet to see a two color deck win a tournament I've been in. I don't think that's a winning strategy. You gain too much going to 3 guilds from 1. I'm including splashes in 3 color considerations btw

We debated if this should include flavor text and in the end decided that anything that could pull focus should just be moved out of common.

  • posted a message on What does a first place Boros deck look like?
Just wondering since there seems to always be some 3 drafters at a table playing red and white. Managed to first place a 6 man draft the other day in Boros despite me and another guy both being Boros while everyone else at the table had one of the other 4 guilds all to themselves.

Last couple times I've drafted the deck I've found myself just scrounging for playables, especially creatures. It's to the point where I might take something like a warmind infantry over a homing lightning if put in the right spot. I'll definitely take any moderately playable creature over a madcap skills.

So yeah, in a world where drafting Boros is almost asking for only 21 playables, what sort of Boros deck get's first place? And, yeah, I'm aware a nutty deck with multiple bombs or multiple truefire paladins has a much higher chance of being successful.

People refer to Disciple of the Old Ways as a bear in reference to the similar card Grizzly Bears. Purge the Profane is a worse Mind Rot in a similar vein.

But yes, I have sided it in myself in control mirrors. It's playable. In no way main-deckable.

gnaw to the bone was great because you could mill it then play it and you wouldn't be down a card.

If you can orchestrate a deck where more life consistently translates to more cards while you are also playing large creatures, the Rapport is playable I guess

I got trounced by a guy who ramped into Giant Adephage and just as I was about to kill him anyway with my aggressive Boros deck he gained 14 life with Predator's Rapprt. This gave him enough time to swing a few times and yada yada yada. Seemed like a subpar stretegy but it worked in that game!
