Also extracting fetchs was great for intel and although not back breaking to the opponent led to some interesting and worth while later plays.
I wouldn't extract fetches unless you know they have another in hand. Surgical are for making snapcasters into ambush vipers without deathtouch or royally hosing gy decks. I don't know that I'd even bring it in against control decks. Most of the time vs. them it is going to be a dead card.
4/26/2014 If there are no legal targets for Athreos’s last ability (perhaps because each of your opponents has hexproof), it will be removed from the stack with no effect. No one may pay 3 life and you won’t return the creature card to your hand.
I've got my pet cards too (I run a mindslicer) but six mana is just too much for me. I only have 2 five drops (angel and thrag) at that. Having a pod chain is great but getting a titan in your opening hand is almost an automull.
Radouf: I've only seen tezz as a 1 or 2 of in affinity lists. He is just a late game threat, basically allowing you to draw 2 a turn (normal draw and his +1) while also threatening a big life drain ult.
Tezz sees play pretty regularly in affinity lists in both modern and legacy. I don't know why people are poo-pooing it here. I will say the deck is more affinity than tezzerator so you are probably better off going to those threads.
Hive mind seems is a 6 drop that doesn't develop the board that well. Compare it to the titans or wurmcoil. I'd much rather ha r a wurmcoil in my deck than a hive mind.
If I played mishra I'd play him with thoptor foundry and that draw a card artifact from scars block. Ichor wellspring or something. Still good with tez, awesome with mishra.
Meloku saved my butt game 2 vs 8rack. I kept him over everything else during discard (and my opponent didn't pick him with thoughtseize) and luckily top decked into land number 5. On turn 6 upkeep with 0 cards in hand and 2 shrieking afflication and 2 rack triggers on the stack I put 3 lands into my hand (kept a blinkmoth in play), once I did that I turned the game turned around pretty quick.
One play the 8rack player pointed out after the round was: Game 3 He had a ton of afflictions/racks, an ensnaring bridge (0 cards in hand) and had just dropped an phyrexian obliterator. He hadn't lucked into much discard so I had a pretty well developed field (tezzeret, DSC and a mana rock 5/5s) and plenty of cards in hand. I drew a damnation and was terrified of the obliterator, so I played damnation to get rid of him, eventually winning with tezzeret ults. He pointed out that I could have used tezzeret's -1 on HIS bridge, then damnation, swing with DSC forever and always until I win. I completely missed that line of play.
I like that the Shouta manabase deals me no damage whatsoever. It makes burn's job much harder.
On tez's -1... I know if I activate a blinkmoth, -1 it I have a 5/5 flyer. Does it stop having flying after that turn and lose the blinkmoth creature type? If I activate again it drops back to 1/1 right?
G1: guide beats got me low, I stabalize with damnation and ride batterskull the next turn to victory.
G2: guide beats and burn get there. I was feeling good because I had a skite out, even though I was at 4, he was out of cards, had nothing on the field. He top decked a boros charm.
G3: lots of burn early, I inquisition away some cards, he has eidolon and guide in play, I play tezzeret, then turn a signet into a 5/5. next turn, another 5/5 and a wurm coil. He's got nothing on that.
R2 vs zoo, he won the roll:
G1: he mulls to 6, I go to 5. I have a good enough hand but I was shy on colored mana (had river, needed a land drop or 2nd black to play lilys twice). With clever application of kill spells I run him down and out of cards, wurmcoil comes in, wins the game.
G2: I kept a hand of darkslick shores, tezzeret, signet, inquisition, 2 smother, 1 doom blade. I gambled on the top of my deck and lost. C'est la vie.
G3: REAL grindy. I went first. Hand was 2 lands, mana rock, thirst, tezzeret, 2 inquisitions (drew into a 3rd turn 2). So I triple inquisition in the first 2 turns to empty his hand. He didn't have much, we both spent about 6 turns staring at each after I made some mistakes (I had a tezzeret, should've made my citadels into 5/5s over the course of 2 turns). He eventually, after many kill spells gets me with a raging ravine and ghor-clan attack, I was at 4 and had 1 man land chump blocker.
It was a free tourney so I'm glad to have gotten in the practice for Friday.
I'm going to be taking this deck for a spin tonight. I copied Yasooka's list exactly, but I am going to -1 thirst +1 dig through time since his list was pre-Khans.
