I can't speak for the werewolf, but I like the elk. Following the prerelease I've been messing around with a GB morbid/undying deck. It's nothing I intend to be competitive, but it has had some fun moments. Rampant growth on a body is okay, I guess, but having morbid on demand makes it worth it imo. Like you mentioned, Caravan Vigil grabs you another land. Tragic Slip is great with it as well.

My deck focused on ramping to Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and then combining sacrifice effects with undying for "free" +1 +1 counters and morbid. The elk is probably one of the most important cards in there, as it provides a lot of versatility.

Right now I feel pretty comfortable saying that a blue splash for Moorland Haunt is a pretty good idea in tempered steel. It keeps the deck from falling to pieces late-game, which is something the mono-white variant seems to struggle with.

But, that said, I'm tempted to try Vault of the Archangel in its stead. I feel like the lifelink is huge, and the deathtouch is a welcome bonus. The life-gain has the potential to keep tsteel strong in a long game, just like Moorland.

I'm worried about the mana though. I personally run 9 plains, which makes me wonder if Isolated Chapel will be sufficiently consistent. 4 opals obviously helps, but is it enough?

    The questions I have are:

1: Can black be splashed into tempered steel reliably?
2: If so, is Vault a valid choice over Moorland Haunt?

    Thanks for any insight ^-^

  • posted a message on [Q+A] Etched Champion vs Hero of Bladehold
I play both: 4 champion and 2 hero. The champions, to me, are essential. Heroes just add some appreciated stability in case the game goes long. I used to mainboard 4 origin spellbomb, but since I switched to heroes I feel the deck has grown a bit more consistent. Hero and moorland haunt seem to provide some important structure.

If the question is champion v.s. hero I would definitely side with the champion. However, hero does a great job at compensating for some of the deck's weaknesses and helps out against more than a few difficult matchups. Imo run both.

Esper tokens might be really good, as I don't think day cripples it as much as people make it seem. I can see tempered steel being pretty well-situated too.

Edit: I also think heartless summoning got a lot better. Probably not enough to become the "best" deck, but I see potential.
