You know what this set needs to sell well?
More than Riggers, Contraptions, or Full Art Lands,
this set needs a price reduction.
Given the cards are all but worthless,
would it kill Wizards to sell this in $2 packs?
$6-7 drafts would almost certainly be popular.

I'm sure even folks at WotC agree with this,
but they didn't seem to want to develop themes for the enemy colors

That last image makes me feel like we're going to see a deck with Shadowborn Apostles.

Kaladesh was more self contained, but remember that while it wasn't a plane wide disaster the portal Tezzeret and Bolas wanted would have become a multiplanar threat, so in a way it was the furthest reaching story since Time Spiral.
What do you mean by "would have"?
Tezzeret got the core of the transporter to Bolas,
which Bolas obviously plans on using to transport his army of eternals.
The SDCC planeswalker art kind of implies that Bolas also uses the portal
to separate the mindwiped Gatewatch,
much like the Siege Perilous arc in X-Men.
That second paragraph is a prediction,
but Bolas *does* have the Planar Bridge.

1. Foil Advertising cards
2. Blank foil cards (front and back)
3. Foil date stamped Punch-out cards.
4. Mythic foiled promo date stamped Players Rules Card
5. The 3 of spades
6. An old Polaroid photo of your Uncle Jim's tube sock
I actually have an Uncle Jim... this was very funny!
And I wish your suggestions sounded a bit less outlandish than they would have a month ago.
Jul 17, 2017Posted in: SpeculationQuote from SiegeDino »Easy Kiki wiki and true name nemesis That would be so cool!
LOL- True-Name Nemesis is just about the most broken card they could put in that deck!
Master of Waves would also be quite nasty, with that Protection from Red...
And Manite, I'd prefer Lord of Atlantis because foils of it are crazy expensive,
and many players dislike the old art (see mpraka above).
Master is the better card, but Lord would move more units.

And I'd personally argue that the new Tarkir is a lot less interesting than the old Tarkir.
I honestly don't understand that decision—
they go through all the effort to finally give proper names and identities to the wedges,
only to completely erase that by the end of the block?
How is that productive?
Now that I think about it, they more or less did the same thing with Alara.
They're going to need to do some serious retconning with either plane
for a return to be appealing for me.
Jul 14, 2017The more I think about it,Posted in: Speculation
the more I think the merfolk face card will be Lord of Atlantis.
Foils of that are crazy expensive,
and a new art version would be welcome, I'm sure.
If not as the cover card,
they should at least include a reprint of it with the 7th Edition art.

I was specifically trying to figure out which Magic colour each box corresponded with. I'm well aware of what colours the boxes themselves are.
RtR - Blue
Theros - Green
KTK - Red
BfZ - White (only on one side, but still)
SOI - Black
KLD - Artifacts
Maybe this is just random,
but if it is, it certainly works for me
(well, it *did*...)
Jul 13, 2017Posted in: Baseless SpeculationQuote from michelous »i am still wondering when she gets sparked and why was she green red instead of naya
There are only two HoD stories left, and the last one almost certainly deals with the fall of the Gatewatch.
Given that, I would guess we get Samut's sparking this coming Wednesday.
Jul 12, 2017Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from AylaTheCat »So, what reprints are we expecting to see with this aggro deck? Do wild nacatl and loam lion make the cut with a free giant growth every turn?
Loam Lion— sure, why not (throw in Savannah Lions while we're at it)?
Wild Nacatl, though, seems unlikely,
as these are aimed at newer players,
and that card might make new players think they can just put a Mountain in the deck to make WN better.
Jul 12, 2017Posted in: SpeculationQuote from Manite »The Merfolk deck will likely revolve around tap/untap effects, which is more supported by WU. Of course they could be monoblue and monored, but it seems a waste not to play into multicolor strategies.
Actually, I just realized—
this DD comes out *after* Ixalan, not before!
That probably means a face card from XLN is unlikely.
It *could* contain a Rivals of Ixalan face card,
but this comes out a bit early for that to seem very likely.
I realize all of this is still assumption,
but I'm now more of the mind that this will be a more "classic" deck,
probably either UW or mono-U.
Jul 12, 2017The only noncreature spell I would feel safe betting on is Demonic Tutor,Posted in: Speculation
probably at Mythic.
I would expect most of the juicy stuff in 25 Masters,
but they'll almost certainly throw this set a thematically unwarranted bone or two
like Mana Drain and/or Rishadan Port to help drive sales.
