I was using dice but found people were annoyed by them. I sleeved up 10 Human Tokens, 12 spirit and 10 Soldier tokens for my deck. It makes the the board easier to read for not only your opponent but you as well.
I don't see the need for more than 2 and as Burned said. You only need the 2nd in case the first one is removed by Acidic Slime, Beast Within or Ghost Quarter. I don't see many Ghost Quarters and the only match-up I've seen the Acidic Slime/Beast Within are in the mirror matches.
For those of you that were following my threads before I was suspended and this one was created, here is my current deck list and some brief explanations on my choices-
Explanations- Champion of the Parish- Sucks unless played turns 1-3. Forces the deck into an aggro heavy strategy. I just dont like it. Forces you to overcommit only to see a quick tragic slip or vapor snag.
Despise- Still my favorite spell in the deck. It picks out the annoying Mirran Crusader and Geist of Saint Traft in our tough match-ups, reveals opponents plans, and disrupts possible combos. Invaluable, imo.
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad- Flavor-wise, I love everything about this card. It is my favorite card in the set. Unfortunately, it is too slow and a win-more card for this deck. At 4cmc, there are too many other superior choices. His half anthem effect is lackluster, despite it being permanent. We have trouble surviving Whipflare and Slagstorm as it is, arguably needing the +1 to toughness more than power.
Blade Splicer- Debatable pick over Midnight Haunting IF you run CotP, if you dont then Midnight Haunting is far superior. Instant speed, and recieves buffs from both my anthems, not having to split them between two targets. Primary argument is the token's ability to stop sword carriers. I pack 3 MB O-rings and have 3 Stony Silence in SB, swords arent a problem for my list.
Good to see you back King. After going 2-3 this weekend at an event in Toronto I'm going to make some changes to the deck list I've already posted in this thread. I found that the Increasing Devotion was much better than Sorin in all my games. I'm also going to try removing the COTP for 4 Despise for the same reason as you. I want to get rid of those pesky cards that once they hit the table we have no way to deal with them. I'll post up my new decklist and results Friday.
I play W/B tokens and I absolutely love this card. The problem is that we only have one set of dual lands in these colors. Isolated Chapel just isn't enough. The mana base in W/B decks is so shaky.
Vault of the Archangel wins games. I'd love to run more than just two Vault of the Archangel in my deck, but it's hard to justify running more than two when I have to resort to things like Shimmering Grotto just to get my colors correct.
I agree it does win games. I play with 3 copies. I run 23 lands. 12 Plains, 4 Swamp, 4 Isolated and the 3 Vaults. I've never had an issue with my mana base.
This.... I gave my B/W token deck to my friend to play so I played Esper Spirts and sucked. My B/W token deck won the event. They don't do a top 8 and it went 4-0 and only dropped 1 game.
Seems like a pretty good deck to me. I myself was going to try to fit in 2Increasing Devotion. I also run 23 land and it works out alright for me. As far as Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, I've had no problems against her. Last FNM I was at, my opp. played 2 through out the game and all it did was slow heim down. I was well of. I'm not the kind of guy to rush out all my spells. Always want a few token generaters in my hand incase of board wip.
Thanks King. In some more testing I found that 3 Increasing Devotion's were too many so I have removed 1 and added back a Doomed Traveler. I will report results of my changes on Sunday as I'm going to a Comic Con in Toronto on Saturday.
I had 2 copies of Sorin in my main deck and moved him to the sideboard after almost never playing him. I'd rather cast Hero on turn 4 and I find that when he hits the table the game is already in hand. This deck wins on turn 5/6 so I've found that Increasing Devotion has given me the final push I need to win.
I posted up my deck in "Post my deck section" and it won gameday with Sorin but my friend who played the deck said he only resolved once and didn't win that game. Increasing Devotion is that final push I've needed in my recent play testing. The deck is still a work in progress.
Well this is my first post after reading on the forums for about 6 months. I've always liked quick decks and this is the list I've come up with after about 1 month of Play.
Thoughts so far:
I like the COTP and as I used to play a Human Deck before this and I really like having the first turn drops.
I have moved Sorin to the sideboard and replaced him with x3 Increasing Devotion. I like Sorin but I find that this card gives me the final push I need to win games. It's a 5 drop but Sorin's abilities don't match this card IMHO. I find I have at least 2-3 anthems out when this card hits it's bringing x5 3/3 or 4/4 Humans into the field.
I gave this deck with Sorin in the mainboard to my friend to play DA GameDay and this deck only dropped 1 game, went 4-0 and won GameDay. I took out 2 Sorin's and a land and added the 3 Increasing Devotion. It beat Wolf Run, Mono Green, UB Control and Huntmaster Delver on GameDay.
I'm still not sold on the 23 lands and might have to move back to 24 but I'm still play testing. Any thoughts on the 23 land?
The sideboard is a work in progress
Surgical Extraction and Grand Abolisher in vs Control
Stony Silence in vs Tempered Steel
Mirran Crusader in vs Wolf Run
Day of Judgment in vs Mirror
I still haven't played a Human Deck with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben She really slows down our deck so we need a way to deal with her so I'm thinking that Tragic Slip needs to be boarded against her.
