hey all, so my mom got me one of those google chrome notebooks for Christmas and I was really excited to use it to play magic online. Cockatrice doesn't work on my Mac desktop even though it says you can download it for mac. Maybe im doing something wrong so any enlightenment on that issue is appreciated as well.
Anyways, so this is really more a Chromebook question than a Cockatrice question but it's really both. Is there anything I can do or download to play cockatrice on this thing, basically is what I need to know.
Then install Cockatrice on Linux. Or install VirtualBox with a Windows VM on Linux, and run MTGO.
However, Cockatrice should work on your Mac. Can you tell us what isn't working. You can also install VirtualBox on the Mac and run MTGO.
Could you post the stats of your Mac Desktop and Chromebook?
The Mac is back at my place in San Francisco so I have to get back from Christmas fun time first. It's only like 4 months old so maybe the OS is too new and Cockatrice needs to be updated, possibly? The Chromebook is a "CPU: Exynos 5250, 2GB VRAM shared, 16GB Hard Drive".
I like when there's some magic program I can download that fixes everything. But I can install linux on this and then run cockatrice through linux, yes?

The Linux solution will be far from a "magical" solution. Installing may be difficult, it may not work, and you may quickly run out of HD space. Perhaps see if you can make a bootable Linux Flash drive and then try running Cockatrice on usb drive.
Also, installing Cockatrice on Linux isn't as straight forward as it is on a Mac or PC.
Another possible solution (I haven't tried it myself, so can't tell you exactly how it will work) is to use Chrome Remote Desktop to remote into your Mac desktop. Then run Cockatrice on your remote Mac. You could also install VirtualBox or BootCamp on your Mac, use Chrome Remote Desktop to remote into a Windows OS and play MTGO.
You will probably have to compile it yourself, I highly recommend you look into a simpler program to compile first if you've never worked with Linux before. I have never really used Chrome OS but it looks like you should be able to get yourself the tools to compile Cockatrice.

What does that mean, "compile it yourself"? All I know about linux is that my nerdy computer friend uses it for some weird reason. Sorry for all the questions but there's no instruction manual for this stuff.

Not a Linux expert here, but I have used it briefly. Compling will involve running some specific commands at the command line.
If I were you, I would try the Chrome Remote Desktop option first. That will be the easiest thing to try.

However, you can probably install Linux on the laptop. See instructions here: http://liliputing.com/2012/11/how-to-install-ubuntu-12-04-on-the-199-acer-c7-chromebook.html. These instructions are for a specific model but probably can be applied to others.

EDIT:
Chrome OS is based on Linux, but I am not sure how that changes anything I said. Please let me know if you want me to clarify somethng.
