Been playing Magic for some four years now. Just curious in general how often "landfall" creatures are printed, and whether or not any of the upcoming sets might be good opportunities for it. I imagine it's cyclic like anything else, but having been around for as short a period as I am, I haven't been able to see cycles come and go much.
I've been brewing a lot lately and just love the concept, so it would be cool if a couple more worthy of eternal play found their way into the fold (with fetch, shocking being a common phenomenon in Modern). I know for a while there was some of it in Zoo decks back when I had started competitive play in Modern a couple years back. Not sure how cards like this would effect Standard (can't imagine they'd be great), or whether or not they would need to be released in a Non-Standard print.
In seriousness, if there's a land theme, could easily come back. Landfall, like most ability words, has vast design space. It could show up whenever needed without any problems. Since it's also fairly generic and can be triggered easily in any context, could be in the upcoming core set as well.
The actual ability word landfall is exclusive to products set on Zendikar, but you'll find a few lands-matter cards on other sets. Origins had Nissa's backstory on the plane, so it had cards like Zendikar's Roil.
Otherwise, it's not really the kind of theme you can expect to appear every X number of years. Multicolor and artifact sets cover broad themes, so they can be expected to appear regularly. You're looking for a very specific mechanic, and I don't expect too see it anytime soon with BFZ being relatively recent and unpopular (for reasons related to power level and Eldrazi, but all of the other mechanics got sucked into that mess, too).

This isn’t a rumor though locking the thread
