According to an interview by Jacob Faturchi with Wizards of the Coast's publicity team, Sengir Vampire is once again returning to Standard in this year's upcoming Magic: the Gathering 2012 Core Set M12.

To note he has been bumped back to uncommon to match Serra Angel. I for one am happy to see him back!

Hmm...I wonder whether this will be taken as evidence that Innistrad is a return to Ulgrotha... nah, folks around here don't leap to such conclusions...

How appropriate considering how they made "dies" have an actual game meaning again.

Would have loved to see Vampire Nocturnus come back, but this one is nice.

I'm liking this core set more than any others. Bring on the bombs.

New art would be appreciated!

It'd be neat if they made a female depiction.

I'd be okay if the original art showed up on this card....new art tries too hard.

I'm really excited about this one.

Its funny how many changes this card has had to its text.

I love the way it resembles the revised printing though.

I already have a foil copy from Tenth, but he's cool and flavorful. Him and Flameblast being reprinted kinda makes me want to pick up some core set again.

The Kev Walker art is one of the very best creature arts ever, unless we get a gorgeous, wild and wicked female depiction on the lines and quality of Bloodthrone, I'll be dissapointed not to see it back.

The Sengir shoutout on M11 (?) and now a full fledged Sengir on M12? If this ain't gonna lead to a full shoutout to Ulgrotha/Homelands I don't even know...

That's sweet he's an uncommon again. I like the way they're reintroducing a lot of old rares back as uncommon.

Baron Sengir could be in Innistrad, even if Ulgrotha is not on Innistrad. I believe he has a planar portal under his castle. It could also be a reprint the same way Serra Angel is, even though Serra is dead.

Anyway, I love this card for Limited. It's nice to have a black creature that can trade with Serra Angel.

He's in because of the +1/+1 counters theme.

Come to think of it, we have vampires that die to go for the throat. That's quite counterintuitive. I mean, they're vampires that go for the throat. o_O

Hey look, they're bringing back another old fave at uncommon. Hope he has new-badassified art, as the last one was horrible in my opinion...

Barony Vampire as well. I wouldn't mind if Ulgrotha stays part of the Core Set background, along with the made-up locations and names made to express classic fantasy flavor.

I understand the drop considering Serra shared the same fate, but I have to say...that is one heck of an uncommon. Power-level alone, I could have seen them keeping him at rare, if only for limited. Anyone who gets more than one of this guy in a draft...yikes.

I really want Innistrad to have another vampire tribal subtheme. They need to catch up a bit.
