I like the defiler VERY much, here's hoping for a usable finisher in Grixis colors.

It mostly consists of a napalm filled trench around my house and a stack of 1994 pornography in my basement.

As much as I'm against the OTT view that this card is going to solo tournaments, cure cancer and make Susan Boyle attractive I'm not really a fan of the opposing camp who think it slaughters puppies and sired Justin Bieber.
While I still love the art for Finest Hour, it certainly doesn't give off the feeling of a great moment. Rafiq looks like he's about to get mauled, not the other way around.
That demon art is awesome, even more so since it's surely a Grixis card, and card art that white on a BRU card will be interesting to see, kinda like the new Cranial Extraction.
seems like a lot of fatties in this set with all the Angels and Demons and Dragons.

Janara looks rather similar to the other figure with Ajani on the Alara Reborn novel cover. Just with no wings. Same sword, shield and outfit, though.
ETA: Ehhhhh, on closer inspection, the similarities are there but they aren't identical. Shield isn't the same like I thought, either.
It's been stated in an official article that that's supposed to be Rafiq, but i think the artist got confused and drew giltspire avenger instead, because that's not Rafiq's sword he's holding.

Wow, this block will at least be remembered for having the best art ever.
Its always nice to see dragons, angels, demons and sphixes. Go iconic creatures!!! Though I've never been a fan of close up art on fatties like the art on Karrthus.
"If I do go to heaven, I'll smack god across the face and tell him to get me a grilled-cheeses sandwhich and then say 'Yea what now god!? Say some'in! I dare you!' "
We in R&D felt strongly that Nicol Bolas needed to stay a secret until Conflux, but the dragon really, really wanted to be on the front cover of the book—so our books department cleverly cropped in on the twofigures in the foreground, and used that for the early book image.
Here's hoping Karrthus is a doublestriker, like the previous Tyrant.

you can generally tell the easiest road to victory by how many players congregate on it; and the road of counterspells/control has been the freeway of choice in magic for quite some time.

What I find offensive is not that Wizards is endeavoring to make the game more accessible, but the attitudes of elitists who act as though no one of any age should show their face in the Magic public without first having mastery over the complexities of the game.
Ahhh. Thank you. Though Deg is correct in that Rafiq's sword and shield don't look the same from art to art (his legend, the novel cover and Fated Hour above). Odd snafu if he's to be important to the setting and plot as I assume he is given his prominence.
Meh, not that it matters. Minor art inconsistencies are not a big issue. Paricularly when the art itself is so nice.
I'm personally a huge fan of the way sphinxes were depicted in this block. I hope they stick around for a long, long time as the iconic big non-humanoid blue race since they are a flawless fit. I particularly like the emotion-free inscrutible expression on Enigma Sphinx' face here.
is it just me or does that look like putrid warrior behind rafiq in the finest hour pic. zombies do seem to be in bant.
