I haven't played magic in a long time and recently picked it back up with a group of friends. We decided on vintage rules and I just dove in head first and created a few decks. I'm curious what more advanced players think of this deck relative to both competitive / casual decks.
The goal is to use Grisly Salvage and Commune with the Gods to fill up my Graveyard and race towards Deadbridge Chant and/or Recurring Nightmare. Bounce back and forth Chimney Imp, Thragtusk, Kokusho, or Spirit of the Night. Nyx Weaver, Deathrite Shaman to have more control over my graveyard. Mana acceleration (Dark Ritual, Lotus Petal) to get there quickly. End the game with a big Lord of extinction / Dying Wish sacrifice or Yawgmoth's Will with mana acceleration in the graveyard. Here is the deck: mtgvault.com/sell224/decks/graveyard-aggro/
I've been tinkering with this for a long time and I'm not sure it's accomplishing what I need it to yet. Is this a decent deck?
For better replies I suggest listing the deck in your post, linking to the deck is going to cause people to skip over your question. As this is your first post, I would also suggest that you use Card tags whenever possible.
In relation to competitive decks, this deck will get destroyed. Pre-sideboarding someone is going to play Black Lotus, Land, Time Vault & Voltaic Key and take infinite turns on turn 2 or 3 and win. If they don't have those exact sequence of cards they are going to Demonic Tutor for one of them or Tinker their Mana Crypt into the Key. Again this is going to happen on turn 2 or 3. The choices here for your competitive opponents is near endless, there are other decks that can all essentially "win" by turn 2-3 if you don't play disruption or race them. Post sideboarding it will get worse, people will bring in cards like Tormod's Crypt and Pithing Needle for Nightmare. If you want to make it more competitive (which I don't think is your intention), I would suggest you add some discard elements that Black has to disrupt your opponent while you develop your game plan - cards like Duress and Thoughtseize are effective. Other steps would be to recommend a wholesale revision of your mana base to include dual lands and moxen for more efficiency, but I am making assumptions here that you may not have access to those cards.
But I don't think this is your intention, you want to make your "casual" deck more competitive in your group of friends, you just happen to be using a vintage rules set. If you are serious in seeking help, I would suggest you get request a Mod move your post into the casual section. There are far more views in that area and they will treat their suggestions to you in the vein you are probably looking to pursue - at least more then the Vintage area will.
As for casual suggestions, you could go the Dredge route and include cards like Golgari Grave-Troll. And a true vintage suggestion Bazaar of Baghdad to fill your graveyard quickly. This is pricey but if you happen to have access to one or more it will fill your graveyard fast. Finally Sol Ring is a big help in any casual deck and helps you in numerous ways.
Have fun.
